Waaahhhhh I read The Wolf after hearing you talk about it initially. Did not love. I wanted to, I swear! LoL. [insert shrug emoji] The plot gave me whiplash, I think. I reaallyyyy want to check out The Smoke Thieves. . . !
You probably read the most interesting sounding books, I've been on book tube for a while now and I've never heard about most of these, The Wolf and Blackwing are on my TBR now.
omg that makes me so happy! I've read The Wolf twice and I'm itching to read it again, Blackwing I've also read twice but I'm still digesting the conclusion to that trilogy 🤯
@@LienesLibrary don't be nervous I believe in your choice, we'll update as soon as I'll get my hand on a copy, also currently I am Halfway through The First Law trilogy and just living in that world for now. JOE ABERCROMBIE is a Magus of a writer though.
I enjoyed The Hazel Wood, but I think in addition to that one being marketed incorrectly, it was also a victim of overhype. It was one of those YA books that everrrrrryone was just SO EXCITED FOR OMG!!! and were talking about it pre-release like it was going to be the best book ever......and then when it wasn't, you got a lot of people saying "Oh I was so let down" and it's like, well yeah, of course you were. I loved Forest of a Thousand Lanterns and was pleasantly surprised by it, because most of the reviews I'd seen were lukewarm at best. But I thought it was really well done, definitely better than some other similar stories that people have loved more.
yah Hazel Wood was definitely overhyped which is strange cuz it seems like the kind of story that you should stumble upon in a dusty corner and find to be strange and mysterious and a bit creepy....
Totally agree with you on Hazel Wood! I enjoyed it a lot. I'm so used to female and male main character becoming a couple in YA books, that when the guy in the end of HW was like "Hey, I like you, but I want to have my own adventures, so bye-bye!" I was so pleasantly surprised!! 🤣
The smoke thieves has easily become one of my favourite books this year. I have such a hard time grasping how so few talk about this series. And the sequel is even better.
@@LienesLibrary And they don't really make sense? I get having chess pieces on a map but we can't even see the map properly. If ever there was a series that needed a cover change... At least we have the UK covers.
I really liked the Diabolic, cuz we buddy read it together. Lol. I trust your reading taste but I have so many books in my tbr... I’ll die and I’ll be a ghost still trying to finish my tbr reading I’ll be a reading ghost 👻 lol
I am trying to find The Wolf in audio right now, to give it a try. Your previous video convinced me. Also saying a character is logic based over emotion is one huge way to win me over haha.
the audio for the Wolf is so so good, I hope you can find it! and I'm so glad you agree, I can't stand overly emotional and irrational characters, they frustrate me so much 😅
You should read For the Killing of Kings by Howard Andrew Jones. I loved it and have not heard anyone talk about it. The sequel is getting ready to come out and I am so excited. Also, I just read Crowfall last month and it is right up there with Holy Sister for favorite book of the year for me.
I hop you like it! I had never heard of him, and I stumbled across For the Killing of Kings on Net Galley last year. I flew through it. Let me know what you think about it after you read it.
Really liked this! Every book you described sounds so interesting, especially now that I know what they're about and am not just generally aware of the titles. I'll be keeping this video in mind for the next time I get new books!
oh yay! I know what you mean, there are so many books that I've seen the covers and know the titles but have no idea what they're actually about until someone talks about them
Another great video from you I did enjoy the wolf as well. I was going to inquire when are you going to do another bookshelf tour because I had several books on your bookshelves that I have recognized and I have read and loved and it was wondering there might be more 👀🤔👍
I had no plans to do a bookshelf tour just cuz they require effort and my shelves are all double-stacked 😂 but I might think of a way to show off more of my collection...
I have heard mixed reviews about the Hazel wood. Booktubers I'm following seem lukewarm about it. You've convinced me to read The wolf though. Is it a duology or a trilogy? My turn: if you like beautiful writing and HIGHLY quotable lines. If you LIKE slow character driven fantasy with great court intrigue and historical fiction / fantasy novel inspired by eighth-century China dynasty. You, my friend, should bless yourself and read Under Heaven duology by Guy Gavriel Kay. I didn't know what I was going into when I picked up the first book and now I'm obsessed! I had to get every book he ever wrote, I just had to. You're welcome.
I know the Under the Northern Sky series (the Wolf) will have a third book, but idk if that will be the final book or not... I've never read those books but you definitely have me interested! I'll have to check them out - thank you!
Blackwing sounds really interesting. Your description suggests it has a lot of parallels to the book series I'm writing. I'll have to check it out. By the way, how many of these books are from indie authors?
Also big yes to forest of a thousand lanterns it’s SO GOOD. and I haven’t read the sequel yet either cause it just doesn’t sound appealing even though I clearly like her writing 😂
I can't recommend The Wolf enough, it's so good. The other books sound good too. Have you ever read any of Miles Cameron books? I'd recommend The Red Knight I'm on book three of the series and I'm enjoying so far.
Added A Madness So Discreet to my TBR. Thanks! The idea of the criminal psychology aspect & serial killers really are a morbid fascination of mine. I sound creepy. Guess I am.
Your tastes seem on the darker side, which is 100% my jam. I'll definitely be checking these out.
I'm definitely intrigued by Black Wing. I definitely don't mind a darker story
I think you'd like it!
An Enchantment of Ravens is so good! I love how cunning the fae are which makes it satisfying to watch the main character have to outsmart them.
yes I love how tricksy they are haha

definitely making me reconsider some of the books I passed up on
so many mediocre books have come out lately - good time to check out some older ones 😉
I HIGHLY recommend the first book.

all the books I mention in this particular video were traditionally published
I've heard of Diabolic but got the impression that it's generic YA, but if you liked it I think I'm gonna try it too!
it's YA but it's not generic 😁
I've got Black Wings and the Wolf because of your recommendation! I'm planning on reading them in September 😄
