Only just found this. And your channel. Excellent. Long - but great to watch. Also watched a few others while I was here !👍🏻👍🏻

With the very small rod rings do you find the leader knot catches as it goes through the last couple, I can feel mine exit through the rings, just wondering if my knot is too fat or not right in some way.
Great videos, great commentary too - straight forward and easy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Loving the channel. Thanks for sharing and keep ‘em coming. Tight lines 🎣

Thanks Dan, yes the small rings and leader knot is a thing. I have recently converted from improved Albright to the FG knot.. which is thinner (guide friendly).. but I use shorter leaders now so the knot stays outside of the top ring when casting

@@theoccasionalangler6956 Ah, yes! 👍🏻that’s how I started. I used the leader as a ‘disguise length’ so the lure looks more natural. I’ve been watching others who use the leader as a casting aid - like heavy shore fishing - to avoid the sudden cast momentum snapping the line. I tried this - which is why it catches through the last few tiny rod rings. I wasn’t really sure which version to use. Marc Cowling uses the same as you I think. Which I prefer but with a £20+ lure on the end I sometimes feel scared to cast as hard and as fast as I can. So also glad to see that ‘trawling’ which I use sometimes does actually get as good a result. Amazing how they ignore it sometimes and other times smash it from nowhere !!! I’ll sometimes think I should try to trawl 2 at once, one shallow, one deep. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I’ll get out there in the coming weeks and give it go. Great vids thank you. 👍🏻

The first of many Questions i'm sure, But is the Leader normal strength or is the set up uprated to take the camera ?

    • @theoccasionalangler6956
      @theoccasionalangler6956  Рік тому +1

It’s my normal leader (20lb fluoro) … I will say I had considerably less hits than I usually would without the camera… the camera is only 2-3ft from the lure and it’s presence did affect their normal behaviour imo

    Great video
Question...did you not think to try different lures to see there reaction to them 🤔

up to 0:15:40are your dragging your rod tip for that extra speed ? It seemed to attract them more at that time stamp ?

A little, speed variations are definitely down to paddling into or with the wind.
There is no doubt in my mind… I always get more take on crankbaits with a faster retrieve and on sub10cm crankbaits … to the point I will not get any takes on a 13cm crankbait , but will get a fish a cast on a 9cm

Thanks for uploading i really did enjoy it. So many Questions ! Its Interesting the reaction of Fish when another one has been hooked and also the length of time they follow for. Also fascinating to me is WHY do they decide to turn away after tracking a lure for a while ? Excellent Video and with these waterwolf type cameras i wondered how long it would be until someone got this sort of footage.

Thanks 🙏 really appreciate your feedback. Yes it is fascinating. My take is this, the fish that trail, tend to be interested… the takes seem to be first reaction from fish that have just found it… that said occasionally one of the trailing fish plucks up the courage to stike

Am taking notes as i watch through. Some Interesting moments where fish follow at the same depth then go off line to strike. Was thinking they are a bit like mackerel in that if one is hooked they all want in ! @@theoccasionalangler6956

    Great footage. Thanks.
It's the ones that turn away that intrigue me. Did you try a lure without the rattle?

I’m thinking of doing loads of different lures to see how they react (inc soft plastics).. thanks for watching

Great footage, thank you very much. Is it the same lure? (I think it is Megabass Zonk)

Thanks mate, no it is an old Yo Zuri floating crankbait

I also use Yo zuri or strike pro for trolling when I am in Turkey or Greece for bonito. I got Mahi Mahi and amberjack as a bonus couple of times :) I catched seabass only with soft plastics while trolling.@@theoccasionalangler6956
