The first Marble Machine had an amazing home-made look. The new one has an amazing steampunk look.
It's probably to represent the evolution of such technology considering that Marble Machine Proto was built like almost a decade.
@@junkyyard2273 Maybe. I don't know.
I have to admit I preferred the old look though. I've never been a fan of the steampunk style anyways.
Kind of like the TARDIS
It’s the dark mode version
reminds me of a time machine 😊
I remember listening to the old marble machine nonstop.
same here!
I discovered Marble Machine five days ago and I'm addicted to this piece of music...
@@BlueSparkle i looped the track on spotify yesterday and haven't stopped it at all
Looks like you found a new hobby then

I am so sad we didn't get at least one normal fully done song with this mashine... I don't care if it's concert-ready or if it needed 50 takes to finish... I was watching the process for YEARS waiting for a song... and I am very sorry to see the machine go without a proper song.
at least we have some edits of partial songs done with the mmx throughout the years somewhere in youtube
why, what happened?
@@Yvory6 oh man... it's a long story, that has been documented in over a hundred videos... but the short version is: The Marble Mashine X didn't end up meeting Martin's "standards", and he decided to ditch the whole project.
It looked great, it sounded great, but it wasn't reliable enough to be taken on a stage, so Martin decided to end the project, and MAYBE build a 3rd mashine - but only once he solves all the issues that happened to this one.
Also his dad got sick, he had to move out from the French home he bought... basically the MMX story didn't get a happy ending at all. It was a failure - one that taught us a lot of things, but a failure in the end - at least according to Martin.
I still wish he'd just make a few songs for video on the MMX though. Like it was nearly finished, it did work good enough to be fine with some video editing. I think he was so disappointed in himself (and probably the father-health thing god too big) that he just gave up on it.
@@kalkovonschpritzendorf1914 One marble machine is too Cold.

Lets hope the next one will be Just Right.

Imagine going to a concert and the drummer pulls out one of these
He's gonna go on a tour with this once it's finished.
@@SapphFire But it won't be the one we see in development now. From the videos and comments I've seen... There is an MMX #2 planned for the tour. Almost a copy but with refined parts.
@@tigerzero5216 Oh interesting. Didn't know about that.

Probably not
No, it's actually an outtake from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (Willy Wonka).
You're thinking of Kraft Dinner.
Makes me think of the Antikythera mechanism
If it gets dug up, itll get classified as a machine to communicate with the gods.

lobstrosity pat-a-pon God may bless and protect you! This comment killed me haha
lol
Martins channel concept: 1.576.800 Minute Crafts
More like "Karen builds a DYI hair dryer out of a soda bottle, a drill, and a bunch of lit candles 2 inches away from your hair"
"Thinking quickly, Dave constructs a home made megaphone using only some string, a squirrel and a megaphone."
"So why is your right arm thicker than the left one?"
"I practiced my instrument way too much"
"Oh okay"
😏
bro
I actually have this problem to a noticeable degree, I played a really crappy trombone for three and a half-ish years and I freaking loved it. The slide had been dented by the previous owner, so there was a lot of friction. I gave it up a little while ago and switched to a Yamaha, so hopefully it’ll start to go away.
And then when you get too lazy, you have treadle pedal :)
"instrument"
i am the only one who wanted to hear original marble machine sound track
on this ?
Nah, I'd rather the first time we hear that song be when all the instruments are actually installed and working.
Dude, the machine is still a ways off. Right now, he's working the vibes and hasn't revealed the progress on the base guitar. The original Marble Machine song was on a finished machine. Sure it was a piece of shit that fell apart, but all of the musical pieces worked long enough to record on.
@@Beakerbite I think he hasn't even started the bass part yet
Omg ikr! But wait until he finishes the vibraphone.
He said this week that he was going to redo the regional marvel machine soundtrack on the marble machine X
It's Been a Journey but We're Now on Our Way
Marble Machine's dropping the beat today!
It’s a long way to goo...
Almost done...
I’ve been rewatching the entire MMX progress series recently and I’m still just in the very early stages (like, before the programming wheel was even finished) and so seeing this brings a tear to my eye. I hadn’t watched this before. It’s all so incredibly real all of a sudden. Everything is so perfect and precise and it’s hard to really appreciate that until you see and hear it working. Im honored to be able to witness this incredible project- one that keeps me alive, if only to watch Wintergatan Wednesday every week.
matt it really is beautiful isn’t it. Stay strong :)
I love them oat recent test 10000 marbles and no losses
I'm from the future... I don't want to tell you what's coming.
@@NeonNijahn rip, brother. Idk what went through his head, but we can always hope for the best
Oh how bittersweet this is nowadays
MMX, you will be missed - you had so much potential, but aimed too high
why, what happened?
@@Yvory6 Marten abandoned the project in favor of starting a whole new machine from scratch, as much of the design of MMX was inherently flawed when it came to the ultimate goal of repeatable, tight live music with minimal errors (which could range from a missed note to onstage hazards to machine damage) due to it being designed first as a Visual piece of art as much as a functional one
Check out musikkabinett!! They’ve gotten ahold of it and they’re finishing it as Martin envisioned it (but with slightly more angle grinder involved)
I've literally waited years for this moment. I remember being blown away by marble machine 1, but now that thing seems like a silly toy compared to how tight and refined even just the drum line is on MMX. I'm so happy to see this 🤘🤘🤘
Wait, I’m confused. Was this music from the machine?
@@JaydenLawson its just the grum on the marble machine the rest of the music is added just as the comment said. Still very very impressive though!
This is just beautiful. The MMX has come such a long way, and to see how well it works now is just amazing.
뭐라는거야
D'oh!
I remember discovering the original MM song & forwarding it to everyone I knew. From there it was every concert episode, how to videos, & physical CD by Wintergatan, that I could get my hands on. It basically started with a song & the amazing feat of engineering that was the MM. Now, I am eagerly waiting, with thousands like me, to see the fruition of all these months of witnessing genius in action! I am thankful to have been a part of history as it was made. Thank you Martin for bringing us with you!
thank goodness youtube recommended to me otherwise i wouldn't know this channel even existed
This is so fucking good ugh... It sometimes seems absurd to me how much i love this band, but this reminds me why i do. I think I might pass out due to fanboy-ism when the double-album is released...
those dropper fingers are so funky-looking as they move individually... I like it

Now have the 10,000 Marble drop test complete, you should do another one of this!
I agree!
You should tbh
this comment didn't age well.
People still checking this vid out I see xD
Well, let's hope the next 10000 marble tests yields the results we need
I can't wait for the completion of the machine, god that thing is awesome
This guy is like a mad musical wizard or something, I thought the marble machine was crazy 🤘
At first I thought he was crazy for trying to complicate the design with the "fingers" at the top attached to the marble drop controls, but it looks amazing. Its going to look so cool when all channels are going!
you know its real when he wears 2 sets of ear phones
Why?
Yeah he always wears 2 headphones since the first video. I noticed that the first time I watched Wintergatan
proves that you can compose a song by starting with a good drum beat
I love how the lever kind of becomes it's own drum, along with the crank. Amazing job, Martin.
Im so happy to see all your hard work paying off!!! Keep up the good work!!!
ua-cam.com/video/sxvGMOYt-ec/v-deo.html
I love how he has two different pairs of headphones on
one's for beat and the other is for the marble machine to make sure the sound is captured from the mic
Because he has 2 ears. One headphone for each ear. Duh
yes, the live tour is near, i'll bring my telescope, i want to see everything
Because one pair of headphones wasn't enough.
The MM shall do well to combine as an ensemble with computer, it can go on highlighting different facets of its instrument array for long concerts of 12 hours stretch
it creates loops, not full songs
I love how Wintergatan is wearing 2 headphones
pretty sure those are ear protection.
Pretty shure his name is Martin haha

This man decided to build something that fascinated him. If we all did this instead of paying taxes, we’d probably have explored far depths of the galaxy by now.
Yees, because you can easily build rockets and research tools without a big organisation behind it which coordinates and supplies it..
Man's gonna just end up creating an automaton human in ten years to play music completely powered on marbles.
One can imagine how much hard work and thinking he might have gone through. Great👏👏
Honestly one of the most incredible machines ive ever seen.
Someone: How you like to hit your drums?
Someone else: Bro I don't hit my drums.
Someone: No? Then how you play drums?
Someone else: I crank them bro.
Proof of bloody genius
Oh my Lord, this reminds me of Animusic way too much--I remember Animusic growing up...
Thanks Wilson! Wintergatan's music is always a pleasure to listen to :)
Before: Music after a hard work.
Now: Work hard to hear music.
I know this machine is often referred to as a failure. But it is not a failure. Because it is incredibly beautiful.
It's sad to think that the MMX might never be finished now :(
Why not?
@@miafillene4396 MARBLE MACHIME 3 BABYYYY
man it looks so different now with all the new parts, hes come a long way for sure
It might be a proof of concept, but I think I just watched a successor rise up from the grave of a great legend.
Martin used to bring me so much joy. Now I am alone.
What?
Who's here after he gave up on this
Makes me genuinely frustrated whenever I think about it. Even if it wouldn't have been usable in concerts on his planned tour, he could have still uploaded a video of it playing music. His desire for perfection is destroying him and perhaps even his channel.
Is anyone going to talk about the fact he seems to be wearing two headsets?
I think the pair around his neck are probably ear protection for using power tools.
Angle grinders are noisy and he likes to use them a lot.
The MMX at its peak was masterful and brilliant. The clock escapement, marble divider, and the high-hat were inspiring to me. Thank you, Martin, for sharing your creativity with us.
Absolutely AMAZING! I was blown away by your first creation, and I can see how dedicated and talented you are. Absolutely wonderful to share the gift of music like this. Bravo!

The cost to build that (not even counting the ball bearing train thing) is staggering. This dude won a lottery somewhere.
If Dr Who was a hipster musician.
The beginning reminds me of the song Rhiannon to be honest.
The most missed youtuber! We miss you Martin!
What happened to him? I only just got into him so idk really much. But I do know he NEEDS to be on the same level as Beethoven in regards to ingenuity even if it's in different ways.
@@wynterpulchritudo7255 He said he found an unsolvable design flaw that prevented him from completing it. He went back to the drawing board. Now he plans to design the new one completely in CAD first, then outsource construction to others (if I understood him correctly).

This channel took a clip of Wintergatan, he does a lot of cool stuff
I can only imagine someone hearing he plays an instrument and asking if it's the zylophone, him responding with "well not exactly" and taking them to see it
This is the _Grooviest and chillest_ thing I've heard come out of Martin and the MMX 🎶
It sounds like dreams and reality coming together rythimicly giving the mistic sounds of pure relaxation, it’s pretty epic how wintergatan, with his music and Wilson working with those gears create art to the ears!
"What's he building in theeeere....?"
THE MARBLE MACHINE X
its amazing to see the difference between the quality of his equipments from 6 years later to 1 year later
And that he so thoughtfully invited us along for the ride. Filming stuff is actually alot of work. It makes everything take longer and you have to think of the final prodict all the time. It takes alot of skill and patience to do ALL of this as well as this dude has.
Notice how near to empty the charger tube is ? ...
He has excess marbles running in a continuous loop in the divider track. He won't run out as long as there are no skips. This can be mitigated later by alternating both channels.
The conveyor belt lift also isn't running anywhere near capacity, as marbles are dropped more will constantly be lifted back up. Martin has done the math, he constantly mentions the rate at which marbles need to be lifted back up.
The total supply of marbles is lower than it could be, almost none are going through the recycler. Martin has definitely considered the rates of marble supply.
MentalEdge 8 marbles needs to transfer per second amaright
@@BaliktanawMinecraft17 Per beat iirc. Remember the machine spins faster or slower depending on tempo. But yeah its 8 per/something, as thats the amount per car on the lift. If it is per beat that means he can drop 8 marbles per beat. That's enough to drop one on a bass string, two on drums, four on the vibraphone and one offbeat, every beat.
Um. Why are you running ads on Martin's video. Do you really think that's ok?
Also, the quality of video is lacking. I only realized this wasn't wintergatan after noticing the skips in motion near the end, and the aliasing in the pegs.
@@didiwin78 Learn to read the description.
Totally not OK. even though it is cents per view, this guy is making money off of somebody else's content. Furthermore, Martin already has a UA-cam channel. I get that credit was given, and props to that, but Martin isn't profiting off of his own content.
Wilson was the name of the volleyball that was Tom Hanks' only company in the movie where he's stranded on an island in the Pacific. If you look at Martin's flat wooden version of Wilson's face, it's based on the painted face that Hanks put on the volleyball. There's also a flat metal version of Wilson's face. I think "Wilson" in the current case is another UA-cam channel run by Martin (even if he says that isn't so).
@@philipclayberg4928 It's not, I've already talked to his rep.

Goodbye old marble divider! We won't miss you!
Μπραβο ρε μαγκα!!!
it takes alot of balls to play this
I remember that first one was literally like.... Guy made a full band just himself.... with lumber and marbles and some equipment 🤣
That was absolutely amazing and the video still pops today.... but now seeing this one and seeing the work done on it.... It's been a long time since I've seen the marble show in action from the first appearance. This is even more amazing than the original and it looks like this one was put together by better material like maybe metal or something more durable. Really shows how much it's coming along and the songs it plays.... would never know it was just a marble machine in action.
The creator has a lot of potential.... keep up the good work

There weren't enough marbles to fill up the lift so it could use them.
I think this guy is so talented. That he can play music and stay fit at the same time.....
I will never not love how so much of the different noises play into the aesthetic of the music itself. it's like when you hear someone play guitar and it sounds better when you can hear that noise when their hands slide on it but times a million with this.
