Mos Def seems very invested on this album since more or less Kanye was fulfilling what he wanted to achieve for hip hop culture as a whole which was to go againts the domination of hip hop of gangsta rap and all the baggage and limitations that goes with that. Graduation thus was the moment when what previously was called "alternative hip hop" came to become an almost mainstream genre to be taken seriously both artistically and commercially and not to be just left in the underground or in little ghettoes of hipsters and white college students. In that sense Graduation might have done what Nirvana´s Nevermind did for rock which was to bring out of the underground alternative and indie rock and bring down the domination of crass dumb glam metal

This is a silly ass comment, with all due respect.
The streets are represented today in Hip Hop as they were in the beginning and in the Golden Age of the 90's and 00's.
Young folks drive what's popular and where the next wave is but it's a mix that always will include the streets, violence, sex, drugs and money because that's what's going on in the hood.
There wasn't room for those like Uzi, Juice, Trippy Redd, Lil Pump, Lil Yachty, Yung Thug and the like because of the powers that be and the gatekeepers, not because of the fans and consumers.
A wide variety has always existed in Hip Hop and that's quite clear to anyone who is a real fan.
You always had the Tribes, De La Soul, Latifah alongside the Cubes, Dres, Eric B and Rakim, BDK, EPMD, Tech, Scarface Biggie and Pac.
What's mainstream or what is listened to mostly by the youth has shifted but there will always be representation of the streets.
As someone noted about trap, even with some other topics being discussed, different melodies, focus on nearly everything but lyricism, there is, always was and always will be hood shit.
      Thank God for that.

    Hello !
Aa yo I’m from Iraq , Babylon , the home of the battery electricity, perfume , fan air conditioner , so ma black peoples can stay cool , all that and more and more ..
    hello !
Yo N.O.R.E , off the top , u the toot yo , that’s the Q yo , if there is something in ma toot , then throw me a tip yo ,it’s such a vibrant ting, most deaf , and thats black love no gloves , it was a set up , they got me drinking with the champs , I’m messed up , across from Dave’s chapel , like a perfect man keep her knees up , then take it back to Ghana , tema , ma hood , where the hustlers come from , sometimes there is no food so we have to boil avocado seeds , we let the lady’s eat the edible’s,
imagine that , coming from the gold Cost, the home of the black stars, can u believe that , most deaf,
But things is changing now , last time I was in Ghana was 2015 , the cab driver asked me if i wanna take the motor way or George bush highway , I said George bush , highway , because the motor way u have to go over a bridge that wiggles shakes so the cars have to time it u have to drive very fast and if u loose the timin then ur car looses a wheel lol it’s the toot yo , so I said George bush highway ? He said yes boss , , the highway is huge it looked like it was made with pure oil and there is crowds around the highway just looking at it lol the most beautiful highway and now there building roads everywhere , thank you George bush and they say he don’t care about black peoples . Fuvk Kanye he don’t care about black peoples his a bush man that’s how we call them in Africa because they don’t count Africans as black peoples but George bush did , thank I for Iraq and Africa America is cleaning up the world sir back and enjoy the show
