My mother and her family is from the Baixa, the houses before the port were originally used for salt storage brought in by boat. The trail leading up from the port was the original way to the water before the road was constructed. I have returned to the Baixa 6 times and spend 6 to 7 weeks with the family and spear fish with my son. We have visited 6 of the islands, my father is from Horta Faial and I'm hoping to build a vacation home in the Baixa on a piece of waterfront property that was left to me by my grandmother. Love all your videos and looking forward to more, thank you
A place like Baixa is paradise in paradise. You must have a lot of amazing memories, love hearing them. I think this area has to be one of the best places on Pico to have a vacation home. Take good care Carlos!
Thanks for the tour. The colors, deep blue sea, the greens of the hills. Sao Jorge in background, all the way to tip to Topo where my other grandfather came from. Video does not show the true image of the Azores... Longing to get back, thanks Carlos and Laura!!!
The beautiful people who live on the north side of Pico enjoy that privileged view of São Jorge Island, which is truly spectacular day and night. However, what we have on the south side, I think, is much better because we have sunnier weather than they do. ;-) I am biased because we love our home in São Mateus. Another amazing video with awesome views!
Walking down is way better than walking up. Gorgeous. They have a festa called “Festa do chicharro “ in the summer. All day entertainment and a dinner . Soo fun.
Hi Laura, in South Africa we call those plants Sonsoekers ,(Afrikaans language).. with meaning, sun seekers as the tend to turn towards sun .. warm regards from Cape Town🥰
@@ourjourneyonpicoisland-car552 The little house on top of those stone steps you climbed was my uncles house to store the equipment to go fishing My dad was a whale catcher (of course 90 years ago . But loved to go fishing with his brothers when ever he went to PICO

Once again great video seeing the north side of the island and looking across the ocean and seeing island of Sao Jorge beautiful blue wave's and the greenery of the background of the island sometimes you just have to stop slow down and look around and smell the roses around you . Thank you God bless 🙏
So many beautiful areas around Pico and all the islands of the Azores. There is so much scent in the area, plants, trees, the ocean etc. Stop, relax and take it all in is the way to wellness. Take good care Tony!
Thanks for the video of the baixa. I knew I recognized the strange pine tree along the road. My relatives have adegas in the baixa. If you're around in August they have a Festa do Piexe for the month. The trail marks go up to the main village, tons of trails everywhere.

Incredible journey and beautiful part of the island. What a quaint little beautiful place.
A must visit, glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
I guess those stones on the roof tiles were put there to prevent them from becoming "air-born" during winter storms ... 🙂. Nice scenery ;-)
I think its an added measure. Some roofs are less secure than others, especially older houses. Glad you enjoyed the scenery! Cheers!
