Maha Shivaratri is the Great Night of Shiva. Shivaratri means white night where there is glamour, where there is light. Maha Shivaratri is an important yearly Hindu festival, considered to be highly auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva.
A Shivaratri is celebrated on the 13th night and 14th day of every lunar month. The Shivaratri in the month of Falgun (Phalguna) is the last month of the Hindu calendar.
It takes place just before the arrival of Spring, usually in February or March in the Western calendar.
