That sounds solid. I concur. If you're getting into Cyber Security, I'll recommend CompTIA Security+. If your Associate Degree is in Cyber Security, that's great! If it's college-transfer to Computer Science, that's even better!

Id have to disagree with you on the CSa+ now called the CySA+ it’s a very good exam and very that will help people on the blue team. It’s a better cert than the CEh

Wow you're literally just like me in the sense of where I stand minus my security+ cert. I'm currently studying for it and I plan on taking the test within a month or two. I graduated with a BA in MIS from UH and did BI and Data Visualization stuff through a contractor position at IBM. I hated it..lol, but cybersecurity sounds interesting and I am keen to get back into the industry again.
I have the certs and while it does help to at least get you interviews it does not guarantee a job. more and more companies are leaning towards experience rather than technical knowledge. less and less companies are willing to teach someone new and rather have someone that right of the bat knows how to do everything. so pretty much these companies are looking for diamonds

Have you ever planned on doing the CCNA or other networking certification, apart from Network+? Perhaps when you used to work in support?
I was always iffy on that. I struggled to understands networks and it never really clicked with me as easily as other concepts. If the job market said that it needed more network engineers I would've sucked it up and studied though.
@@JamalGDNR Pentesters often have vast understanding of networking as much as network engineers, in fact, I've heard that many people who work in the ethical hacking department (red team/purple team) of IT have CCNA's as well as OSCPs and CEHs.

Where (site) did you get your first helpdesk job
I’m 20 years old and just received my Associates degree in Information Technology: Hardware & desktop support, I used to be a computer science major so I got a lot of coding knowledge with Java and python but decided to switch to IT. I also learned a good amount of networking like subnetting addresses and configuring networks. I also have a good understanding of powershell scripting, AD, etc. I’m just wondering if I should still go and get my A+ and Network+ cert even though I know most the material or should I just start applying now and get my CCNA while working?

Hey buddy, so I’ve studied for my compTIA a+ for about a year now reading the book over and over. I’ve built my own Pc and etc... I haven’t taken the test because I don’t want to waste 300 bucks and end up failing. How hard is the actual test???
Im actually working two jobs trying to pay for my school and compita materials.
The test isn't hard, but the way they word things makes it more difficult than what it really is. I would look up some practice tests that word questions similarly to comptia and if you do well take the test. I used Mike Meyers practice tests

@@jdogg9053 I’ve taken and failed a+ and Jamal is 💯. Their questions are tricky as fuck. Really stop and comprehend EVERY word in those questions.
Does the help desk pay good ?
In my area it starts off at around $20/hr so around 40k a year

Hey Jamal, nice video. I am also still on the helpdesk, its about to a year now. I got moltivated from your videos and did the aws architect exam, i am working on the developer exam now. I took up python and linux as well. Got a couple of interviews but its ussually that you dont have any experience for this devops or site engineer positions. What do you advice now that you do what you do, keep going with aws certs or look into some other things. Just tired of talking to pple all day

I think that depends on where you live and how competitive the market is. I'm in the philly area. It would be pretty difficult but not impossible here

IT Technician, cyber security isn't entry level by any means.
I have earned my AWS sysops cert but don’t know what kind of jobs to look for that would be good to start with. Most jobs want 5+ years in AWS which I don’t have. What position do you hold right now?
Currently I do back end web dev in aws services. Have you looked into devops positions? There are some MSPs that focus in cloud technologies too.
I never care about the experience requirement when applying for jobs. If I meet 50% of the other qualifications I apply.

Depends on how familiar you are with the concepts and if you already have experience. If you're new to IT and don't have much experience get the A+.
