So sad! I took my family there in 2004 before going to San Antonio to see the real Alamo. Seeing this put the battle into better perspective than downtown San Antonio.
This set is 1/3 the size of the Alamo. The building on the north east wall with rusted roof is where the banjos are. I was there during the filming of 'Bad Girls'. The set in Dripping Springs is 2/3 the size of the Alamo which was the size of the Daytona Speedway! The Texians who ran southward from the east and south east walls were ran down by Morales' lancers. The Texians had NO defense for lances! I heard this whole place was closed and for sale. Been lots of movies shot there but John Wayne's The Alamo is the most famous and my favorite!
It was such a beautiful place back in the day. My fathers cousin worked there in 64. The last time I was there was 1980, was still pretty good shape then. I wish they would try to save a piece of it. Such a shame
I went there with my family when I was about 9yrs old. I remember going into the church imagining the fight scenes filmed there and having a feeling of reverence for what happened in history at the Alamo and then in one of the rooms in the rubble was an empty bag of Cheetos. Ruined the whole mood for me.
I know Historically the John Wayne Movie is garbage, but i absolutely Love that movie and seen it probably 20 time over my lifetime. To see it now in this Video is fantastic and brings back great memories. Id love to see it in person.
It was so big that to survive the attacks , Col Travis needed at LEAST 1900 or more men on those walls because they DID at least have cover. The Mexican Cannon's would also be a serious problem even with more men instead the fort.
Alamo was not a fort. It was a series of Spanish mission buildings hastily fortified without any parapets or cover to speak of. If Travis had 2000 men at his disposal he would have done better by meeting Santa Anna outside the Alamo.
They should take better care of it! It's the only way to have a good idea of what the Alamo was really like at the time of the battle! John Wayne alone, is enough to make this site historical!

Is this like 4 hours south of San Antonio ?
That was great!! I was here in 09 and loved it all. 👍🏻
That is really cool! Very interesting perspective from above! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the video
Thank you so much! Since this movie set is currently not open to the public, this video is an excellent resource :)

The movie Alamo, John Wayne's edition. The set.
Are there any plans to restore this place and open it to the public? It looks like it could be brought back to life with a little money and work.
I heard they are trying to
That's really cool. 😎👍
Thanks

Ce site de tournage .the alamo fait partie du pratrimoine du texas. Pourquoi ne pas le réhabilité. En memoire de john wayne. ALAMO WILL NEVER DIE.

They tried to have a theme park, but it didn't work
Was this the John Wane 1960 set? Or is this from that 1987 tv movie?

Kind of sad to see it in such despair.
Part of History fading away
Such a disgrace to let this happen to a great memory of a great movie..
True 👍
Mostly ALL of those who were in that movie have passed away.
There isn't any doubt in my mind that the site is haunted by them.
True
Alamo Village, not City.
It is so sad that the owners are just going to let the structures decay and collapse. It is so sad.
So true.just more history gone
What is that a swimming pool in there lmao
The place looks dangerous now - WATCH YOUR STEP!
I would have liked to got closer but that didn't happen
@@abovethelanes It's pretty interesting!
Illegal immigrants might move in there and populate the place. Keep an eye out.
