@@rosielupita5230if anything Indonesia was far better ready then most other countries. as the whole of Asia and Europe, except for the Netherlands, we're basicly rooting for Indonesian independence. As the second world war just ended, and it was the last colony that was held by the Netherlands. And the fact that Indonesia was tactically important for all sides seeing its location. So having them independent means your enemies can't use it against you either. As well as having their favour helps in that regard. So they had no direct support but definitely no direct resistance from any non Dutch armies. To not even speak of the numbers of countries pressuring the Dutch to let it go.

RIZAL KNEW THE FILIPINOS WEREN'T READY FOR A REVOLUTION JUST YET.
      The question is....
What's his point of writing El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere then?
To awaken the Filipinos and make them realize the abuses the Spaniards are doing to the Filipinos right?

Rizal offered two strategies.. 1. In Noli, he expressed the importance of being educated, independence can be achieved if Filipinos were given proper education. 2. In El Fili, Rizal offered revolution but there is a condition that all Filipinos would participate in the war, those who would not should be annihilated, as he itterates: "ANG AMANG DUWAG AY MAGBUBUNGA NG ANAK NA ALIPIN"

History major here. I learned this from one of my courses but Rizal was actually kind of contemplating a lot of times whether he should continue the "peaceful way" or abide to Bonifacio's side. You can actually see that a lot if times in the characters of Elias and Ibarra/Simon in Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Two characters with two different perspective. The funny thing is, his favorite character out of all the characters in both of the novels is not Ibarra but rather Elias which means, he was also thinking of the possibility of revolutionary rather than reformity because he already seen the decline and failure of La Solidaridad.
Unfortunately, according to the transcript of Tavern's interview during the 1899 American conquest Rizal still suggested Bonifacio to not continue with the revolutionary because for the sake of the Filipinos, reformations was so much better and because "it's not the time yet" for revolutionary to occur.

Yes tama.

In his writings, Jose Rizal highlighted the abuses and injustices committed by the Spanish authorities and officials who were assigned in the Philippines. He aimed to shed light on the mistreatment of Filipinos by those in power, exposing the corruption and oppressive practices that went against the principles of the Spanish Government. Rizal's works contributed to the awakening of national consciousness and the call for reforms in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period.

People forget Rizal basically had a life built up for himself in Spain. He had European friends and shared their sensibilities. Were it not for his love for his countrymen, he could have just given up and lived a longer, happier life. The man could have had a home in Spain, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, or Japan if he had so wanted--the doors of the world are always open to polymaths, but he chose to come back to his sorry homeland and got himself executed for his troubles.

Mainland Spain underwent a total reform and he saw all that. That's what he was asking.
Unfortunately, Andres tried to pursue him to join in the revolution as the "utak ng katipunan" but he refused.
But Andrew idolized him so much that he included his name as one of the leaders of the revolution. That's why Spain was lured into thinking it was Rizal's idea. In fact, Rizal was already planning on going to Cuba.
      Andres ruined all of it.

That is exactly what the Philippine Revolution did, albeit aided greatly by the United States' war against Spain. But of course, the Yanks became our new colonial masters right after. It isn't correct to say that Jose Rizal is justified to still be the national hero just because he inspired the Katipuneros, including Andres Bonifacio. When you think about it, revolution would still happen without Jose Rizal because he isn't the only one who wrote against the Spaniards. It was just a matter of time. His death just made it sooner.
Besides, in the moon landing it was the astronauts that were praised more than the team behind the mission. Because it was the scariest part of it. Likewise, Andres Bonifacio who had direct involvement in the revolution is worthy of more praise than Jose Rizal; This wouldn't affect Jose Rizal's heroism anyway. Jose Rizal deserves to be the National Hero because he was in Europe and had the advantage of observing Spain and their plans for the Philippines. He encouraged the Filipinos to fight because he knew Spain was planning to sell the Philippines to America for $20 million. If it wasn’t for him Andres Bonifacio, Apolonario Mabini, Juan and Antonio Luna wouldn’t be able to plan well for the revolution.

While Rizal was killed by the colonizers (tho yes the ones who are holding the guns are Filipinos but the order was from Spain). I equally respect both heroes and even Rizal and bonifacio despite having different views are known to respect eachother, so it does pain me to see that Andres' very tragic death is being depicted this way without fair context, he didn't begged to the enemies he begged to his own people thinking they should have eachothers back

I remember during our subject in college about rizal's life..
Rizal was driven by his intelligence while Bonifacio was driven by his emotions mainly hatred towards the spaniards, he wanted to fight them fist to fist.
Rizal and his family was supposed to flee to borneo to live in peace but spaniards found an illegal document in his sister's baggage. This was the reason why rizal was held in captive and then later on executed. Rizal was very respected despite his small frame that when arrested, soldiers hesitated to touch him and lead him to his cell.
Rizal definitely deserved to be a national hero. He fought them through noli and el fili. He was ready to reveal the crimes of prayles to the filipinos and the intention of spaniards in our islands back then. He only halted and backed out when he learned that his mother was punished - they made her walk from laguna (forgot the end point) but it was really really far.
Spaniards went too far as they started attacking Rizal's family. They wanted Rizal to come back to the Philippines so they can arrest him. His mother is his wake up call as he can't let them punish his old and weak mother anymore. Rizal realized filipinos cannot stand a chance against spaniards. He went back to ph and planned on leaving the country along with his whole family. But then, this never happen as they got him arrested and executed.
Rizal's death sparked revolution led by bonifacio.

From what I learned in college, Rizal wasn't entirely against a violent uprising. In fact in his conversation with Dr. Pio Valenzuela during his exile in Dapitan, he explicitly made suggestions to Valenzuela what steps to do if an uprising must be ignited. This includes seeking aid and support from the upper class Filipinos at the time, including Antonio Luna, because of their connections and because they can become a threat if they find out that the Revolutionaries are very unarmed. That said, Also, he mentioned Valenzuela of his plan to visit Cuba to aid as a medical doctor for the military. He wanted to use the opportunity to study the revolution tactics in the ongoing fights in Cuba and perhaps learn from it and apply to the Philippine Revolution itself.
That said, the narrative behind "Rizal vs Bonifacio" or "Reform vs Revolution" is very disheartening because both parts played crucial roles with each other during their time.

Rizal was not a reformist, at least in his latter years.
His early critiques on Philippine society were aimed at the friar establishment, and he advocated mother Spain to address the corruption of the friars. He later realized that the friar problem was a symptom of the bigger disease: Spanish colonialism itself.
This is why despite his reservations on the timing of the Philippine Revolution, he looked favorably upon it. These are evident in his later works and statements, even subtly in Mi Ultimo Adios.
It's in this reason that the revolution waged on, not despite Rizal but because of him. Americans "sponsored" the veneration of Rizal because he was already a hero to Filipinos, but their propaganda of Rizal painted him as the pacifist we mistake him for today.
There is a paper by Floro Quibuyen entitled "Rizal and the Revolution" that explains all of this in detail.
