I’ve been searching for this song for ages. I heard it almost 20 years ago, it’s melody ingrained in my head but not the title. You can’t imagine the relief I feel right now
Another as cool as this is Slip Into Something More Comfortable - Kinobe.
I had the same thing happen except I found it after 4 years. I'm glad you have rediscovered it after so long! It's a truly beautiful song that pulls all of those feelings out :)
@@SoFkwHat80 dam
I had the same with Lovely Head by Goldfrapp. Man i was so chuffed when I found it.
Aw man. Like you've taken your first breath right...
My husband and I fell in love with this song when it was the track on an M&S advert. Whenever it played on the TV we would just stop whatever we were doing and just listen to it. I hunted for it in secret and eventually found it. I played it for him as a surprise on Christmas morning and am in tears writing this as he passed away nearly eight years ago. This track just popped up on UA-cam after something else I was watching. Once again I just stopped and listened to it. It's nice to know that so many other people have been touched by it as we were ❤
I can feel you on that one....
my wife passed 3+ years ago.
may they rest in peace and wait for us.
best wishes and deep hugs.
Got goose bumps reading your post. 💖 I heard this song for the first time today.. I can see why we all love it ...
♥️
The poignant reminder that...we are all just passing through. Thank you
My hubby and I loved it too. He passed away 16 months ago, aged 44.
I’m 70 years old and have just found this song and it is truly magical.
And just think you were four when Patti Page sang the original

That is truly amazing
We are both jodies so i felt the need to reply, This song reminds me of my mother and the magic I feel when listening to it makes me feel whole again. ❤
22 years ago, my father went on a business trip to California and drove along the coast from San Diego to San Francisco. Before completing the journey though, he stopped by Monterey and entered a music shop where this song was playing. Every time he told me this story, he always emphasized how it felt like he was “levitating” while walking through the store’s shelves. I was born a few years later and the same Vertigo copy he bought that day still makes up an essential part of my life. I hope to be able to travel to California someday and do the exact same thing...
What a story mark!
California is such a beautiful state and yes I feel the same way when I drive up the coast on the 1 and looking at the sea it’s such a beautiful feeling so peaceful.
Listen to Ivy Edge of the ocean it also does it to me
This song is mystical, magical and an amazingly inspired force.
I drove San Fran to LA one year, stopping at Hearst Castle. Monterey was amazing (aquarium especially), but the place had such a chilled vibe it was great.
My favorite song of all time and has been since I was 16. That’s 20 years ago. This one will be played at my funeral (if only someone remembers this comment).
Yes, resonating with that. To me it's one of my Good Songs for the End of the World ✨
Mee too
I so want this to be the last song I ever hear @AnthonyLavall
You alive or dead Anthony ?
@@RaviSingh-cr9mo sorry to keep you waiting a day! Had you worried I am sure. I'm still going but thanks for asking. Check in with me again in another 10 years.
This isn't just a spliff, this is an M&S spliff, rolled to perfection with care using only the finest ingredients.
hahaaaaaaaaaaaa...lmao ,mate I literally just saw the commercial and fought of this song.

Fabric That's a coincidence. It's the same thing *I* said when I met your wife, too! 😮
Just did, here at the end of 2019,,, glad I did too
@@comanchio1976 That's a coincidence. It's the same thing I said when I found out she liked it in the but.

After struggling with depression for 6 years and still to this day, this song was the only thing that has ever made me happy 😊 👍🏻
Don't be depressed, when this song came out back in 97, I was on my 4th year in state prison, I heard it in the joint.
Te entiendo 💜
Same here. This music changed my life
This is one of the best house tracks of all time.
There's no excuse claiming to be depressed, especially if you were lucky enough to be born in a 1st world country.
This song is played in the movie “About Time” and the scene where they’re playing tennis by the beach and the afternoon sun shining makes the perfect setting for the theme of this song.
I’ve seen that movie and love this song and don’t remember it from that movie. Maybe Mandela effect 🤷♀️
The movie is exactly how I found out about the song all those years ago. Can’t believe that was 10 years ago already
Probably my favourite "post club chill out" tune ever. Always makes everyone smile.
And Chicane!!

Used to listen to this with my grandmother, whilst driving between her home and mine, about 12 years ago. I will forever remember the warm sun through the windscreen and the safety I felt
Isn't love great?
I first heard this on an album called Chilled Ibiza over 20 years ago (I think), and for me it perfectly encapsulated the whole Mediterranean summer holiday feeling. It's fantastic and still feels the same today.
Thank you . Haved been trying to find in my CD collection.
The ULTIMATE chill-out ANTHEM.
Reminds me of my lost years wandering around the beaches of Cornwall and UK wonderfully tune that's ingrained in my memory but for the life of me didn't know the name of tune or group.
Great times
It was 2002 when I discovered this song and Groove Armada, my then girlfriend and I were into them. This moment in time was for me a new beginning in my life, a rebirth almost. This song reminds me of that feeling I had back then. She died of breast cancer at 56…Mandy you pulled me out of that hole I was in. Thank you.
Amazing comment.
Nothing like crying in public, on a Monday morning, in the break room at work.
And nothing like reading the comments of strangers to take you there. And(!!!) there's nothing like this song.
This hook is a complete experience. You use your ears, heart and soul. I can't help feeling like it's up above and on into that plane of...just above music. It's obviously music, it's Groove Armada, but it's a tiny bit more, than just that.
I was always an insomniac and back in the 90s I'd stay up all night watching Open University. They used to play this music during the intermissions. I assumed it was a piece of stock music written for just that purpose. Then one day, I saw a die hard film. In the basement at the airport there was a gramaphone playing. Recognising it as the sample used in this track I rushed over to my mothers house and played it for her on the piano to find out what it was. She recognised it but all she could tell me was "It's about the seaside but I can't remember the lyrics"
I then put all of these details on a DIY forum in the vague hope that someone would know what I'm talking about. Finally after more than a decade of searching, someone answered my prayers and told me that the record playing in Die Hard was "Old Cape Cod" by Patsi Paige and this was used as a sample on the track "At the River" by Groove Armada.
Beautiful ❤️❤️
😢. Hope your life is happy This music brought me back too
@@anna-mariapontonio3220 yes, I’m happy, thank you.
This isn't a just a song. This is a smooth, groovy, eargasmic M&S song
Nice reference!!!
i will never get tired of this song

Patti Page - Old Cape Cod
Plenty of fantastic beaches where I live in Australia, but when I hear this, I always long for a place I have never been, the Hamptons. Must be Patty's American accent, the way she sings 'doons '.
Once you've heard this song it's hard to walk onto a beach in summer without of hearing it in your head
Heard this for the first time yesterday and was instantly obsessed. Spending summers with my wife in Cape Cod for years, I sent her the link saying "This reminds me of you and me in Provincetown". I just found out today that the sample is from Patti Page - Old Cape Cod from 1957! After going down a rabbit hole of listening to more Groove Armada I am now a huge fan. Thanks GA for a masterpiece . I'll be playing this all summer long.
Check out more Patti Page if you do not know her work.
What is it I love about this tune so much? The vocal that reminds me of when I lived in North Wales? That trombone that arouses some deep emotion from this cold, old, hard heart of mine or that laid back beat that's in no hurry to go anywhere? Probably a combination of all those things. 🙂❤
If there's a better chill-out song i've not heard it.
Lie back and think of the sea
this one would compete...
Asura - Le Dernier Voyage ( for awakening of the 3rd eye....)
also,.. meditated to Phaeleh - Lament (TIMELESS TRACK (!) that takes you out of your normal day rhythm)
you might like CHVRN - Awakening (but this is more electronic)
The melodic hook and the oh so chilled out trombone solo make this song incredibly memorable. Couldn't remember the title though.
One day I was coming back home with my mom and this was playing in my car, it was late at night and she asked the name of the song and I told her it. She then said she liked it because it changed and was sort of unpredictable. I love you mom ❤
They will never make them like this again- such a holiday feeling tune👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Loved this song for many many many years yet this is the first time I have ever seen this video
This is Real MAGIC ! I have heard it years ago but never forgot it ! I will remember it in my after life !
Sat in the garden in middle England on a warm summers evening, chilled beverage, nothing to do and this playing away in the background.
It’s just something about this tune that moves my soul. Takes me back to a fun, carefree time of my life.
Me too! 😎
Reminds me of driving to green acres haven holiday park in 2008, my dad played this constantly. Would give anything to go back and re-live it.
Heard this last time in kusadasi Turkey 15years ago but on the program loaded in paradise brought it all back home a mint song love love
i'd fly around the world just to see them play this live my god what a fucking beast of a song
This song really helps me with my loneliness. It makes me feel happy and distracts me from feeling any loneliness and sadness. Theres another song by them called edge hill which is where I found this band. It's also a really nice song by them
This is such a hip take on an old sound. I love it!

Ashley Dufault hi
So, the first time I heard this song was on a compilation disc featuring cool, ambient music. That album introduced me to a lot of cool artists like Nick Drake (“River Man”) and Mercury Rev (“Holes”). This was in 2001 or so. Anyway, the Groove Armada song stuck with me mainly because it had this timeless, romantic 50s vibe to it that I love. (Lizzy Grant’s music is like this, even if she isn’t a particularly good singer).
Starting around 2010 or so our family started going to Cape Cod for vacation in the summer. And the sand dunes and the quaint little villages (which aren’t as quaint anymore) are things we have grown to be fond of. So, two years ago, after listening to this song for over 20 years, and going to the Cape for almost fifteen, I discover that “At The River” sampled an old 1957 Patti Page song called “Old Cape Cod”. How fitting.
I love bands that sample old lyrics. I think this is Patti Page - Old Cape Cod
SHOULD BE "AT THE BEACH"! still one of my faves and a perfect vibe.
This is a special song so well produced the video is futuristic and fun in a way that you can feel a sense of inner longing for peace tranquility that we all have. The moog synth is f-ing amazing. What a treasure for me to find I’m addicted it’s like a drug can’t stop replaying it.
This is not just any song.....this is an M&S song!
This video isn't just any video its a creepy video
chillax with a maximum vibe - as good as I remember it more years than I care to remember!!!
Can't believe this is over 23 years old. Takes me back to a better time. No cares, chilling on the beach with beers and friends on our annual lads holiday after another mad night. Good times. So sad they're gone forever.
My ex partner and I of 11 years used to listen to this album every time we went to aberystwyth. We are no longer together but have the most beautiful daughter together. This song catapults me back to a time that we both love xx
I discovered this song yesterday watching About Time. The wonderful summer weather together with Margot Robbie and this background music is a perfect combination ⛱️🍃
So happy I've seen this live. Makes my heart so happy everytime I hear it ❤
This song makes me want to weep over a memory I’ve never actually experienced.
Perfect foodporn music, combined with Moby - Porcelain and Samba Pa Ti by Santana and anything will look delicious.
And Albatross by Fleetwood Mac.
This song will always be a hit for years to come...

Proper seaside tune...sun going down,beer and a cig on,just chillin 👌

I remember that they used to play this at the library.
This reminds me of Czechoslovak movie "Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea". There was a fictional time travel agency "Universum" with which you could travel to different historical epoch. The "airport" was kind of simillar.
Thnks for told us about this
I have known this song for 20 years but have never seen the video up until today. I guess the music is that beautiful on its own
Oh, how I love this music! I love it, love it, love it from the very fisrt sound I heard it back in 1998 or so. Instant love.

I`m not going to cry again, I`m not going to... too late. Such an amazing track.
One of the best songs.
This song is really fantastic when you are super high and zoning out....
Dreamy dreamy goodness ❤️
Why is it called "At the River" when the lyrics are about sand dunes and salty air, things normally associated with the beach?
On an unrelated note I'm also a lot of fun at parties...
Myndale the channel between wales and england is considered a ‘river’, i assume that’s where they get it from
Straight answer from Cato himself: "My dad was a trombone player too, and the blues lick in At the River came from a spiritual we played together, also called At the River, so the title is a nod to those sessions with my dad."

I remember listening to this on a roadtrip through Canada. My 8 year old me didnt know what speial memories and nostalgia this song would bring to me one day.

I'm late to the party on this one - but it's fantastic! The trombone playing is excellent, and so is this video.

One of the most beautiful, happiest, peaceful, and crushingly sad videos I've seen. I finally understand it though, I think. To me, it shows that moment when you are so close to peace and satisfaction, only to have forces either within or without pull it away from you. The frustration and anger are so well played in this, and the melody of it cuts directly into the soul.
kids will never understand the 90's - Early 00's
+MrMrBimma agree
im 23 today and i find this type of music unique
I'm 18 and I found this song last year, it's currently one of my favorites.
I heard it for the first time 2 years ago at 33. I think good music transcends. Sure I won't understand the anxiety and upheaval of the 60s but I can still love the Beatles and Hendrix. I think people will just appreciate this as an exploration of the amen break and chill out sounds.
I'm 14 and I remember listening to this in the car when I was 6
This introduced me to chillout music, and I didn't need to get stoned!
1999. I buy the latest issue of Q Magazine (British music magazine for anyone not in the know) must of been in December. Came with a free CD as lots of music magazines did back then "the best tracks from the best albums of 1999". I was looking forward to Tender by Blur, Pick A Part That's New by Sterophonics and a few others. This was I think the 2nd last track on the CD. Blew my mind. Loved it ever since.
i've listened this song while tripping on LSD. What an amazing trip ever!
You'd get up in the middle of the night to listen to this. Classic and modern day masterpiece all at same time ❤
