A bit rambling, this one, even by my standards, but it seems that people actually prefer the longer ones. A tale of New York body-builders, the mystery of hair-dressing salon design, and the need to knuckle down and get on with the job of making videos.
Lindybeige: a channel of archaeology, ancient and medieval warfare, rants, swing dance, travelogues, evolution, and whatever else occurs to me to make.

Choosing a punishment would be simple: Two videos a week, or you have to make a 10 minute video talking about all of the higher qualities that the French have over the English.

Perhaps the massive windows are supposed to make people passing by feel bad about themselves not exercising like those people inside, hence acting as a massive living advertisement for the gym.

+John Harvey No, not really. That looks like a lot of hard work, and I can hardly be bothered with waking up at a semi-decent hour of the day. I mean, sure being physically fit would mean I'd be healthier, but I'm in this world to enjoy it, not burn through it was fast as possible. Cheetos, over stuffed chairs and digital entertainment is the way I roll. Let the gym bois go to the dogs.

It's a good guess, if it weren't so easy for the passersby to do the old routine of "weighlifters, huh? those guys have small nuts and can't get it up. My ways of drinking beer and chain smoking are much better". Or "she's going to look too manly" (the women version). Basically it's much easier to (try to) bring down other people than improve on yourself.

My gym has this same big glass wall thing and even though it always bothered me, and I walk to the machine way in the back, far away from the glass wall, and I notice many other ladies do the same; I have realized most of the men strategically place themselves to be seen from the street. I....am not sure what it's about, or why do they make such choice, but it's something I've observed

Or maybe the gym has this big window to motivate passerbys. They see all these guys working out and think "I shouldn't be worse". This actually benefits the gym owners because more members => more money.

    • @orangeflame568
      @orangeflame568 8 років тому +2

+Człowiek Wiking I suspect that actually has more to do with it. View a person working hard at building muscle --> feel shame that you are not doing the same --> sign up for the one year membership --> attend once and realize you don't particularly like people seeing your fat ass working out --> never show up again, no refund on that membership --> Gym has your money and remains uncrowded for the muscular ones that actually use the gym, and lure the new members in--> Gym Profits.

People are motivated to lift weights because of goal setting and progression. In hypertrophy, the results are simple and tangible, therefore very rewarding. Don't let many muscleheads ruin it for you. Muscle & Magicka is a great channel. The Golden One is not as humble, but he goes for the epic hero aesthetic. Sean Nalewanyj and Red Delta Project are a bit more dry, but very informational. If you relate muscle gains to roleplaying, look at Skyrim mods: Disparity and Pumping Iron (both showcased on the UA-cam channel called Brodual). I hope you read this.

  • @SimicFishCrab

lindy, it's no motivation that most people lack, its the diligence to do something without motivation. To be able to force yourself into doing something you are not motivated for. Motivation is fleeting and can come and go without control, diligence is permanent and will never fail you.

I can totally relate. Procrastination, having too many options and the psychological association of work with leisure (since I work from home mostly) are obstacles that require a lot of forethought to overcome. It's especially bad when you start getting down because you're so hard on yourself for not getting much done.
I've taken to using a daily planner, not only for appointments and such, sor which it is very useful, but for daily task lists, filled out a week in advance. I cross off each thing as I go and then relax for the rest of the day, or maybe do something from tomorrow's list if I have lots of time. I find it makes me much more productive as I spend less time thinking about what I should be doing (thus avoiding it), and more time actually getting work done. If the day is done and my list is unfinished, the aforementioned embarrassment factor kicks in.

Sooooo know the feeling. Deadlines are the thing the motivates. So with writing this is easier as magazines have set times. But for other projects that have no deadline, that meeting with others is helpful. Even if it is a pint at a pub, to discuss the current project. Then I get focused and work to the meeting so I have at least got something. Then in discussing things I get motivated.
So highly recommend some kind of teamwork with someone who can ask how it is going.

I eagerly await the video where Lloyd explains why setting a goal of 2 vids a week was a bad idea and apologizes for this vid. I predict it'll be his fourth video from now, so I guess that makes it the Friday the 22nd if he keeps to his schedule. I wager 50 yen on it.

If I may suggest a tip to get more videos out:
    1. forget about the footage from Turkey / Malta
    2. Shoot footage in the morning
    3. Edit and upload video in the afternoon
Using this system you can have a clear sense of progress while you are doing it which should keep you motivated. If instead you contemplate the huge amount of footage from Turkey, it looks like a mountain in front of you and you are fed up before you even start.

I have an idea. When I've got loads to do, I usually make a list with all the activities and then arrange them, chronologically, in the order I want them to get done. Certainly helps me bring some order in my otherwise chaotic way of worrying about commitments and tasks.

You could do what I do when I'm thinking of what to cook; I take a cookbook, I open it up at a random page , and obviously that will be something that I really really don't feel like making, let alone eating, so I allow myself to go ten pages back and ten pages forward, and one of them is going to be "it".
So, sit down with your footage, think of a random timestamp, fast-forward to that timestamp, and pick a subject that comes up within ten-twenty minutes. Then: summon the spirits of the Beige, google some interesting facts about the subject, put on a particularly beige shirt and talk to camera for a bit, preferably with some berserker added in. I love the berserker. Berserker!
