Theoretically, how would sieges function ?
I understand that the game is a work-in-progress, but if you implemented a time of day system, you have surely thought through some way for long assaults on fortified positions. I would very much appreciate a reply on this particular topic. Looking forward to release.
We're holding off on doing sieges for the time being, we don't have the budget or time to create walled settlements with siege guns, trenches, mannable fortifications, naval bombardments, etc. If we worked on that we would have no time for the campaign mode. It's something we will need to add later, it would probably take an entire month of development time to do correctly.
@@armchairhistoryinteractive2046 Suggestion is to make it an dlc with an new mode function. Fort invasion, where the defender gets to set up an fortress with diffrent tiles such cannons and trenches and just regular concret fort tiles where units can stand. The attacker get more units and can attack from all sides. Even further devolpement of this mode could be that both sides build their on fort with a flag in the middle or something like that.
Also have an question, will trains and airballons be a part of the game? Looking hella good so far, really liking the vibe and mechanics of the game so far! :D

Two things I think would be cool in this game:
-The ability for infantry units or engineers to build things like trenches, barbed wire, wooden forts, bridges, etc for other units to use.
-The ability to create our own custom factions either through the game or mods on steam.
To be honest, i'm kinda fine with these slow updates
I feel this is a pretty big project (or at least in proportion to the developers) and progress looks quite majestic. So this whole development looks much more polished and proper with these slow (methotical) news and serious handling of problems, than if you were to squeeze content out and pamper to the audience.
They’re definitely quality over quantity

Looking pretty good, can't wait to see how the final product will look like! It's good to know that there's a very competent team behind the game!
One suggestion I would like to make is that I believe the melee animations should be more chaotic with the troops spreading out a little within the tile, bayonet charges were a little more energetic than letting the enemy take a stab at you while you sit there and wait. Other than that, this game is looking phenomenal and I truly can’t wait to play it myself!

All the graphics look great and really rather well polished for game still in development, except for infantry sprites and animations. They really stand out by comparison. I'm hoping that gets improved somewhere in the process.
Agreed- animations haven't been updated since last year, so they will be overhauled shortly.

love, but i personally prefer really large maps were your units cannot cover every ground and can be easily cut-off/surrounded if they stray to far from the main force, and also allows for a lot of maneuvering which in turn could make the road speed bonus much more vital
They want to work on making the maps bigger. They can make them way bigger.
All of the maps shown are small, we are still working on creating a system that allows us to make much larger maps. The biggest issue we're running into is the texture size since each tile has a 1,000 by 1,000 texture. This means a 15x15 tile map which is considered "small" has a 15k resolution map. Once we come up with a fix we should be able to do maps at around 30x30 or 50x50 at most.
This being said, we will throw out all of the maps shown in this video later this month and remake many of them much larger.

A few Questions and suggestions:
Price upon release?
Will there be other objectives then Killing the enemy like holding ground for x amount of time, retreat with at least x amount of units remaining and of course the reverse (cut of path of retreat, take ground in x amount of turns)?
Will there be an option for Reinforcements after a specific amount of turns (more units)?
Merge too half strength units in to one full strength unit.
Houses as fortifications
Sieges (possibly with prebuilt fortifications like Wals or blockhouses)
Campaign?
I can only answer one question, the game is going to be free. There might be some cosmetic things you can pay for, but that's it.
Hope I’m not annoying but will there be a looting mechanic for like the campaign? So like able to capture the enemy rifles if there’s are more better then what rifles you’re troops have? Or cannons/artillery pieces?
Overall that be a good mechanic for say playing as the South in the American civil war or as a Native tribe like the Zulu able to use the British rifles.
You won't be able to play as the Zulus. Mechanics likes that are undecided at this point buy I'd guess there won't be looting.

@@thatoneperson134 Yeah I know it's in Alpha. Sure they could add anything they wanted. But there are no plans to add any of those things. And they'll only think about it if the game is successful. And if they decide to add more stuff they'll most likely prioritize adding new nations like Denmark.

It must be stressful making the game cause everyone has such hype and expectations so the amount of stress and pain to make the game as good as possible is huge
I really hope that this inspires more wargames to use a wego system. F&M has some real potential to be a literal game-changer in a genre that is stuck between (often very difficult) hex-based games and real-time strategy games.

Visuals are stunning! But the troops look a bit robotic when moving
I know it would be a big change, but maybe if the game is successful adding ww1 could be considered. It would put a twist on strategies with tanks that perhaps don't have cohesion, but have high health, lingering mustard gas, machine gun nests holding down choke points, planes bombing fortifications while fighters engage them and massive airships capable of launching a handful of fighters This type of stuff would be really cool, but I understand if it's too much considering the current 100% free to play and free to win model (though adding a cheap price of 5 $ is well justified considering the effort you have put into the game).
Otherwise the game is looking very fun and I can't wait to play it! Keep up the good work
No plans for stuff four outside the games time period of 1853 - 1871. They will only really consider it if the game does well.
I hope this game have story rich in the campaign
you guys should fix the hills because the soldiers are clipping in the hill and you cant see them and fix the smokes of the guns because when they volley in the enemy the smokes comes in their back or on the side...
I hope that once new versions of the game release, you add south american countries like Bolivia,Peru and Chile from the Pacific war
War of the triple alliance is something they want to add but it won't be for a while.

Finally
Can infantry units, regardless of exp, do an "advanced" infantry formation? I expect british infantry to be able to do all but french and german might only do some, while russian can only do a few
Every infantry unit can use all of the same formations. So the militia have the same options as the British Guards. But different units can use those formations better than others. British soldiers can better use Open Order because they deal more ranged damage. Prussian soldiers can better use March Column because they can quickly switch into an attacking formation.
Are you considering the possibility of adding other nations, such as the Kingdom of Denmark or the Kingdom of Spain?
Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay are a few that they may add first if they do add more nations. Right now their not focused at all on adding new nations.

One way to speed up the game,-(and still having the animations)-is to make all units move at the same time so you can have the full animation without slowing down the game. (Alltough it might already be in the game speed menu i didnt notice it)
There is an instant option that just speeds everything up and skips many animations.

Is there a plan to add more content when the game dropps as well? (i am speaking about small ones like new countries to play, or big ones like for example a WW1 Mode or smt :D)
WWI absolutely not. But there are plans to add South American countries and other European countries. But it's not certain they'll be added.

@@dranoel9881 Mexico Brazil Argentina Paraguay Denmark and Sweden are possibilities. It depends on how successful the game is. So they don't have any concrete plans. Not sure if you new this but they're adding 5 more faction before release.

@@Z.O.M.G The game is in Alpha and they've already overestimated how much work they'd be able to do. They need to get the the game working with all the base nations before even entertaining the idea of adding new and very different stuff. Adding new mechanics is not something they are going to do for a long time.
It looks awesome, but why didn't you make it a real-time strategy game like total war? I hate turn based since you can't react on enemy manoeuvre straight away
Probably because you can just go play Total War if you want a Total War game. The simultaneous orders turn system has a lot of depth.

Is the campaign based on real event on each country like example franco-prussian war for France and Prussia or American Civil war for america?
Yeah there will be real campaigns. Mostly focused on the Crimean War, Franco-Prussian war, and American Civil war.

@@quiciky The time period of this game is 1853 - 1871 which goes from the start of the Crimean War to the end of the Franco-Prussian War. Anything outside that time period have no plans of ever being added. But anything is possible way way down the line. They do want to add the war of the triple alliance with Mexico, Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil at some point. Won't be soon though.

No. You just control them at the regimental level.

The only flaw that should be easy to fix is the flatness of the map.
I Like the new animal deigns for each nations, but I feel like they lack a littlie without the army uniforms.

Dear me, the game looks better and better on each diary.
That Antietam looks like a wink for the Civil War enthusiasts. Yet I wonder about the South American conflicts (The Triple Alliance is the best known, yet the quantity of factions is too much for a game like this -other conflicts are like the Pacific War, the age of Gran Colombia's dissolution -one of those is the War of the Supreme, which Ecuador and Venezuela intervened-, the Garibaldi expedition in Brazil and so on).
Considering the pace which the development is going, the game is promising and despite being an "underdog" in this 'risorgimento'of the Strategy genre, is very plausible that the game will be one of the top examples of a very good indie Strategy game for this decade.
In some months the second dlc of Fire&maneuver, about the war of the triple alliance (South America’s deadliest war) will be released, maybe in the final months of 2022. Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay as playable nations

There won't be any content outside if 1853 - 1871 for a while. The Union and Confederacy will be added as a DLC.

Possibly but there aren't any plans as of now.
