Thank you so much for teaching this 🙏 I heard this song come on the other day at work, and I was staring at the speaker in shock. It's funny because I already have a Roy Ayers record but this one slipped under my radar. It was definitely that chord progression and thick sound that got me ✨️
I know that a lot of folks are going to use that Eb maj7th on the vi chord. I always like to substitute that chord with a 6/9 or quartal ( perfect stacked fourths ) G-C-F; especially in the middle register. That sounds oh so sweet ( slightly jazzier ). Great lesson. I got instruction and encouragement from it. You did a wonderful job with this. Thank you
You kept the right hand nice and simple. Roy also plays keyboards on the side. I think that early on when he wanted to get traction in the R&B/disco/funk venues, he restricted his arrangements to relatively simple 7ths and 9ths.
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION AND EXPLANATION OF THIS SMOOTH JAZZ CLASSIC THE PITCH IS ACCURATE AND SO ARE THE CHORDS THAT ARE USED BROTHER KARLIS YOU DELIVERED ONCE AGAIN YOU'RE SMOOTH AS SILK YESSIR
Just here cause your voice is awesome - even the 17 days cover was closer to the version than the original itself. I play the guitar and watch your Piano Covers for inspo
Much Thanks for this!!! I'll be wearing this one out. Actually I'm a bassist, but also trying to do keys and in awe of Rhodes sounds. Keep up the good work. Lovin' it!!!🙏♥💯
thank you soooooo much for this. i knew that the song was in E minor, but the chords were a bit tricky to figure out, not to mention how to play it on piano and the finger positions to use. but i finally got something to work with. thanks bro. that's a "like."
E m key signature and getting further into the tune he uses a 'device' familiar to many of his fans; especially those of us who are aspiring weekend warrior musicians. He'll go into that 'bridge' where he does that 2-5-1-6 movement. In Searching, he uses that liberally.
I'm missing that - In the key of Em, he's going to F#, Bm, Em, C (that would be II, v, i, VI)?? I haven't heard it. Please point me in the right direction with that one
Roy Ayers' primary instrument is the vibraphone thus presenting the challenge of the higher register. That damn Roy!
