Hey man, just friendly advice here, and I mean no disrespect since I really like your channel. The music playing in the background is extremely annoying. It’s too loud and and the fact that it is basically EDM club music makes no sense on a guitar related channel.
wcm5150 we embrace all types of music. I do agree it came out a bit loud.
Amen . . it is annoying . .
@@DylanTalksTone We embrace all types of music is not the point of his comment. The fact you own a kemper and cant balance your db in your own video is what's annoying. If we embrace all music then I want to hear Ariana Grande in one of your videos in the future.
Caesar yeah... sometimes we make mistakes... it is what it is... I can’t fix it now, I’d throw some
Ariana grande in for you, but copyright law doesn’t allow it.
That’s what I was thinking about during the whole video :)
Is there a way to downvote this 100 times? That background music is unforgivable.
I'd say all that bs'n and no demo is par for the course
I have an FRFR but I don't use it, although I don't want to sell it as it might come useful in the future. The amps that I profile are amps that go well with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, that is Mesa, Orange, Diesel, and Marshalls amps. I have two cabinets, a mesa 2x12 and an orange 2x12. Im happy as hell with that concept. I don't really use Vox or Fender profiles where I would need a Jensen speaker or other kinds of speakers. My clean Fender-like sound comes from a Mesa Lonestar profile. If I want to send the signal to the front of the house then I use an impulse response that I really like and that I found after trying dozens of V30 impulse responses.
EVM12L classic for the bottom speaker. Done.
I don't use my kemper live very much but I've used it running into a Fryette powerstation then to my Port city OS 2x12 cab. Sounded really good but at the bars I play at, having that expensive of a thing up on stage makes me nervous.
I wanted to hear the d thing... What's up with that ? Can you send cab sim to FOH and have cab turned off to your on stage guitar cab at the same time ?
I feel like I'm on hold listening 🎶 and watching YT at the same time
Thanks a lot for the video. I'm just a regular guitar player at home, I have a 2x12 cabinet and some amp heads. I might buy a kemper as just another amp head, but am not interested in buying some random "FRFR" speaker that has to lie around my house somewhere. I just want to use my same 2x12 as normal. And it sounds like this is totally fine according to you.
This music is giving me magaluf flashbacks
Hi, The cabs are £16 a piece? how can one get these? So the powerhead version of the kemper can be plugged into any cabinet. does the same hold true for the non powered version a well or do they need FRFR speakers? thanks
im using a marshall jvm 410H and a Mesa Rectifier compact box 2x12 cabinet at the moment but that marshall has given me tinitus. can i use this Kemper Power Head instead and connect it to the Mesa Cab ? can i use my regular speaker cable or do i need more gear to make this possible?
I agree 100%. In fact, the last time I played out live, I polled my audience on the sound and both of them agreed, Kemper + guitar cab was the way to go.
So the kemper adjust the resistance automatically? No need to set resistance in the kemper?
Another question, can you plug in both cabs at the same time?
Club mix music background and not a single kemper sound sample? Seriously?
Yea dude I play *mostly* metal? So I got a cab with 4 V30s and it sounds fantastic. Just like an actual amp would.
The only idiots giving a thumbs down are the idiots buying FRFR solutions. Couldn't agree more with this video. Power amp plus real cab is the way to go. Some would say that defeats the purpose of modelling but I beg to differ. You still have access to hundreds of tones and they sound incredibly "real" going through a real power amp and cab/speakers.
This doesn't make any sense because the sound you get from your guitar cabinet is different from the original amp that was profiled and also different from what you are recording or sending to the PA.
Hey man, did you have to do anything special to prevent your cab speakers from blowing due to the Kemper being such high wattage? I’ve been considering getting the PowerRack but I’m concerned about blowing my cab speakers.
LANo they’re not going to blow. Check the wattage if it’s about 75 Watts ur fine. If ur worried move up a bit but I haven’t had any issues. But I’m a home guitarist and I do not blast my amps or my kemper.
the background music takes a lot away from this presentation and makes it hard to listen to, at least for me. No music at all would be highly preferred.
I agree - I can't stand the sound of FRFR so far - but I do like my modelers with headphones or studio monitors.
That makes no sense as monitors and headphones are also FRFR. All three should sound similar.
Good vid, I agree completely
Are you gonna let us hear what it sounds like ?
My Kemper is not the powered one, what is better then if i want use it in a Gig?
Buy a powered FRFR speaker, just so you don't have to fudge with a separate power amp. Sound aside, it seems to be the most convenient way to go with unpowered kemps
the song is too loud in the background ....
hi dylan , stuff you're talking about as always , professional . but background music is not appropriated to really appreciate it...
The background music on this video is way too loud.
great info..But please turn the music down. We all love music but it needs to be faint. Not dominant.
Music in background was annoying. Great video other than that. Maybe let us hear it?
Yep!.. I agee.. FRFR especially with a pedal steel sounds terrible sterile one dimensional. I Run my 2 12 inch quilter cab with my profiles they came alive.
I skipped through about 20 times... But all I heard was OOMF OOMF OOMF.. I don't mind house jams at all mind you..But I didn't come here to dance.
Well... I'm ready to party so...
Great video, shame about the music choice :S
wow that background music is distracting
The second "F" in "FRFR" stands for "flat", not "full". Full Range, Flat Response.
Fortnite BR Game Clips lol yeah. Sometimes you say something wrong once and can’t get it out of your head. That’s what I did
Yo bro lol. Did you forget about me? Or am I missing your email 😆
Not at all, I need to know what wiring setup you have now and then I can work something out
Well i can tell you this....my friedman sounds great with many many many profiles...it will go high, it will go low, it will get british, and it will go full mesa shred...so...........i would have to disagree.
Your explanation is wrong. A guitar cabinet has a certain 'color'. It will change the sound of the apm. But with a Kemper, the purpose is to emulate any amp&cabinet. So to emulate any guitar cab, you need a full range speaker. This is very easy to understand and it makes no sense to say 'the internet has convinced people that [...]' because that sounds like some flat-earth conspiracy you read on the internet. The irony is you are on the internet making videos misrepresenting technical details that are easy to understand while you build your channel around the idea you are an expert on the subject.
Alcathous actually..... I’m not wrong. This video is explaining HOW I USE THE KEMPER.... you may use it however you wish. If I am wrong about using a passive speaker, why did Kemper just release a passive guitar speaker?
@@DylanTalksTone Because the Kemper speaker cabinet is a full range speaker. So you would use it with cabinet emulation turned on. Your video isn't just about how you use your Kemper. I never made any claims that you aren't using it the way you say you are. But are you saying you use your Kemper with speaker emulation and then you feed that signal into a guitar cabinet? So you get twice the colouring effect of the speakers? One of your profile, and one of your speaker? Taste will differ, but if you do that the sound you get will be obviously different from the sound the Kemper is trying to simulate. And I use my Kemper because I can just get a profile and get very near the sound of the amp they profiled, without having to do any micing, mixing, EQing, dialing in tone, etc. And that is even more important while recording or while powering a PA system. Because while I understand that as a guitarist it might sound nice to stand playing just in front of your Marshall 4x12, that will sound completely different that what you are recording, or what the audience at your gig is hearing.
Alcathous go read some more about the new TOTALLY PASSIVE celestion speaker made specially for Kemper. ....
@@DylanTalksTone Passive means it doesn't have a power amp, because the Kemper comes as a powered version. It seems you are confused because most monitor speakers and FRFR cabinets are active, you think it being passive somehow makes it a like a guitar cabinet. Well, try playing your guitar amp through a FRFR cabinet. You seem pretty dense. I don't think there is much hope here...
Alcathous the new cab is a single driver passive cab with a guitar speaker that was designed to work with the new software in the Kemper. It’s very cool.
Here is the thing.... why do we choose a speaker to go with an amp... because it compliments that amp. I chose a speaker that was as flat as possible and gave me as much range as possible across the profiles that I typically use. Is it great with every profile? No... it doesn’t have to be. It has to work with the profiles that I LIKE... on top of that, I send signal to the house and use this cab for me... no one else... not you.... me.
We all make choices that sound good to us. That doesn’t make them wrong. That’s the beauty of the Kemper. It can be used so many different ways. I also use it with studio monitors in my studio.... it’s flexibility. You don’t have to like it, you don’t have to use what I use... but this is how I use it.
no need to thank me, im not here for validation ;)
Lol me either... that's why I haven't fixed this video. It's kinda funny how workeduo people get.
@@DylanTalksTone i dont think people are getting worked up. Just offering some advice, might help you get more subscribers like Tonejunkie and Top Jimi, you dont take advice at all well. for someone who makes videos giving advice, hahahaha
Regardless of the maybe useful information I can't help but stop watching due to loud and cheesy background music. Man, be a bit sensitive! You're target group consists of musicians!
You seem very sensitive
gives a 6min explanation bout sound, doens't play a single note. #toomutchtalk
Kenny V that wasn’t the point of this video. Maybe if you subscribe and watch .... you’d understand ;)
Dear God... shut that music off!
down2alpha .... no.
background music sucks, stupid background music sucks even more, loud stupid background music is the worst.
Redundancy and a lack of self awareness is worse than all of that.
@@DylanTalksTone that too yes
All talk, annoying background music and NO Tones thru the cab you spend the whole time talking about???! C'mon, dude . . . be better than this.
We have other videos for that. Try being nice and I will help you out more.
Great vid really dumb backround music
glad you like it
Kill that background music!!!!
The reason people choose FRFR is not because they've been told on the internet what you've described, but rather because they get exactly the tone from the speaker as they are sending to FOH. Imagine rehearsal with a band- you are tweaking the tone of your amp/kemper to fit in the mix with the band. Imagine doing that with FRFR- Great! Now you can use exactly this tone live or in recordings and be sure you always sound good with the band just as you've prepared. Now the same but with a guitar cab- you have different tones from the cabinet and the one that you send from the monitor out, therefore your tweaking to fit the band becomes useless and your carefully crafted tone can only be partially captured if you mic the cab the classic way which kills one of the most important benefits of having Kemper.
This 2x!
I want to trust your advice, but judging by the music your playing in the background,im not so sure i want to......lol
Had to stop watching. That background music is everything I hate. Sorry.
B M sorry you have that much hate inside.
LOL. Sorry if you didn’t get the validation you crave. Maybe don’t invite comments if you can’t handle reasonable criticism. If you can’t take the negative with the positive then maybe UA-cam isn’t the place for you.
LOL!!!! I dont need validation.... that’s not why we do what we do.
'We'? You speak for everybody who posts their views on all things gear-related? No such thing as a selfless act. Regardless of why you do it, next time you do it can you not include the naff music? Cheers and have a spiffing day.

The music that you are talking over is annoying...
and much too loud compared to the voice.
1:30 mins in and I stopped watching. Background music was too much
man I had to stop the video to make sure that horrible techno was from a guitar video ... turn that shit off bro
Sunshine Winter nah... I like it.
I’m right there with you, man. Running my powered Kemper through a cab with Creambacks in it. Sounds amazing for the seven profiles I gravitate to.
Hello there ! Can i plug the kemper into the guitar cab or do i have to buy a PA in order to do this ?
So I've been trying to find an answer to this, and can't seem to find a clear answer. The output on the powered Kemper says it's 600 watts at 8 ohm, and 300 watts at 16 ohms. Yet I see a lot of people running 2x12 cabs with it. Does the Kemper itself monitor how much watts to put out to the cabinet itself? Does it monitor the resistance as well? I would love to get a powered Kemper for the sake of saving space for an independent power amp in my rack, but I don't want to blow a cabinet up. A clear answer on this would be great!
I don't think u just turn the cab button off. in fact I think u have to go in output sec and turn off cab sim and power on power amp. but what the fck I know. lol
You set up your Kemper the way that it makes you happy. That’s it that’s all.
I have a similar set up, I run an evm 12l in my bottom cab. If you haven’t tried that yet I highly recommend it. That speaker will definitely take the power.
I agree totally! I run my Kemper through a cab and after I did that the first time...there was no turning back! I love it!
Sorry, can't see the full video... it's about the music of course.
You know that you can just put the "monitor cab" setting in the off mode, in the Output settings, then you automatically get the cab simulation off in the speaker output, and the speaker cab on in the direct out
Yes sir.
Absolutely with the deafening background 'music?' you call it?
That background music is
worse than walking barefoot on razor blades.
Then wear shoes. ... that would be stupid.
Not gonna lie...I'm high as fuck right now and the music is such a vibe...
funniest thing I've read this week! LMAO
Good, informative video. I gave you a thumbs down simply for the backing music. Leave it off from now on.
satinwhip no.
Completely agree. On stage sounds way better through a guitar cab than FRFR. For live use I put it through the PA with the speaker emulation on, but also through an onstage cab with emulation off. That slightly processed, rusty fuzziness, sound most profiles seem to have gets smoothed out through a guitar cab.
So the dude takes all that time making his argument, then he doesn’t let us hear what his kemper sounds like through the cab.
Jesse Cole the whole
Point of a cabinet is to hear it in the room. It’s pointless to do an A/B test of direct vs cab because over UA-cam you won’t ever hear or feel what it sounds like in the room.
@@DylanTalksTone lmao
great video, but please... DROP THE ANNOYING BG MUSIC!!
Lol. You cant remove it after its uploaded so....
Dylan, I am a big fan of your videos. A huge amount of valuable information and very well presented. I humbly request that you shoot an update to this video. Explain it all again (without the hated background music) and update us on which speakers you've tried and and are using now. Then you can shred this one. Cheers! Thanks in advance.
Oh, and go ahead and play it into some kind of mic. Does;t have to be perfect. We will get the idea. We are already out here listening to all kinds of BS recordings to help in our gear choices.
I shot an update almost a year ago. I now have a kemper stage that is not powered
@@DylanTalksTone oops yep! I found it after I posted this. Apologies.
So i`m 6 years late to this video, but here goes: I recently got a Kemper, and with all tube amps i`ve ever had, there was always this "hissing" sound to them while playing at lower volumes, and the same goes for the Kemper, but only when the Cab sim thingy is turned off. When the CAB button is activated, i like how it sounds personally, yes it might sound a tad compressed to most people, but i like it.
Is that "hissing" sound just how all "real" amps sound? Ive never noticed it at band practice at loud volumes, but at home its the sound i hate the most in the world
Interesting. Came to this video searching if and how to use a VHT FatBottom 212 cab with a power rack. Wanted to create profiles of my own amps and use them togethe simultaneously. Still figuring out the vast digital amp world.
dammit love your vids but the background music was too loud and annoying to be honest you dont need it you have our attention without it
Hey man! I am planing to buy poweredrack version with remote for not only studio use, but live also. So im thinking of buying Orange PPC412. Do you think is it worth over FRFR?
More. Describe. Please. Test it
Have you heard/tried celestial f12x200 fr speakers ..made for modlers ..pretty cool
I use it thru a cabinet too.
Get rid of that terrible music ..........can't hear what you are saying
My questions answered. Music wasn't too bad. Bit loud. But questions answered. Thanks dude
Thanks, but the background music SUCKED!
disliked - just cos of this horrible background music, i cant even sit through to the end . sorry
Really annoy background music
I’m considering Kemper and want to use it with a cab just like you but there is very little information about a setup like this. Thanks for the video!
ChinqMiau1 just get the powered version
why?
ChinqMiau1 just plug it into ur cabinet.
That's an interesting point as I'm seeing people talking about damaging their cabs with 600W powered Kemper and even their FAQ page mentions this. I wonder if there something like a master level you can set as a general protection against this. Hmm, I really like the idea of having one box... Thanks for a thoughtful comment!
Oh right, wow that's looks like a way to go. I didn't know such thing exists. Again, thanks!
No sound demonstration? This video is odd.
yes... we have many other videos where we use it. This was more, Why
Full range, FLAT response
Who makes these cabs?
so annoying. are we in boca raton??
The background music is not appropriate at all. I’m actually a bit confused why you did this video. Let’s hear the Kemper.
Lol.... not appropriate.... it’s awesome.
Tip: background music does not help us hear or understand you better.

hey please kill that cheesey as hell electro music in the videos , you have amazing knowldge ruined by the MUZAk playing way too loud in the background, it turns it into a bad infomercial
Guess what... you cant removeit once it's there.
@@DylanTalksTone DUH, you can re upload. without it, by looking down the page, Im not the only one with the same comment, if you also create cheesy techno cool for you. be creative. but learn how to mix volumes between voice and BGM. theres some good videos on youtube on how to mix down videos and audio in post production.
I'm about to buy a Kemper Rack Unit , I'm on the fence on Powered or Non Powered....
Any advice Please ? will be used mainly for home recording & home practice :)
I dont know what it is but I record with ampsim software but when I'm playing for people or live whatever i use a real amp. Not a Kemper or axe fx I haul my blackstar series 1 out and do the shit. Call me old fashioned lol
The background music is horrible.
I love it.
Yeah moving air is great when your young and reckless with your ears .. but your going to pay for that down the road, I’m 59 now and made a living playing clubs, concerts, and some studio work, and now have permanent ringing in my ears (tinnitus), also high end loss. The beauty of the Kemper is being able to get my old school tone WITHOUT moving air. When deciding between a power or non-powered Kemper recently it was an easy choice. If your one that likes playing loud enough to move air then get the powered version and enjoy running it through your 4x12 cab or whatever .. but please wear ear plugs .. believe me!
So what are some of the best profiles to use with a real cab? Any specific names i can find on the rig exchange or buy?
I get the idea and it makes sense but what's the advantage of the kemper into a cab vs a small tube head into a cab live especially if you are using only a few profiles.?And if you are turning off the cab block you have no option to run to foh pa direct anyways and you have to mic the cab which is the same scenario as using a tube head and cab . no disrespect I own a kemper myself and mostly use at home , or direct into pa at certain gigs like casinos where guitar cabs are not allowed just in ears . But for most gigs I will use my tube amp with a cab and pedalbd , which is 3 pieces of gear and if I use a kemper with Cab it would still mean 3 pieces of gear, kemper cab and foot controller .is the biggest advantage is the kemper is lighter than a tube amp somewhat. in that setup ?
I love those cabinets brother! When I was in my car audio phase, I built huge systems with custom cabinets and competed in IASCA (International Automotive Sound Challenge Association) events. Won several best of show awards...I know, when I would design enclosures for subs, I could drastically change the tuning of the enclosure by using different diameter port tubing, different length of port tubing, and by the port placement on the enclosure itself....are you going to tune your cabinets just using the open/closed/partially closed back, or are you going to make additional back covers that you can experiment with different port locations and sizes, etc.?? I had a book that helped with enclosure air space needed for each speaker size and type..I can't remember the name but I think it was called ???? ??? BIG BASS BOOK. I loved experimenting with enclosures! I was able to get a 1969 VW Bettle to pump out an amazing 168.8 SPL until it literally blew out the side quarter windows! I held the record for outlaw bass with the above SPL from 1995 to 1998 using 2 15" Lanzar Subwoofers, 2 Lanzar 10" subwoofers....componet mid-range and tweeters, 3 Lanzar 1000 watt 2 channel amps, Lanzar active x-over, Alpine head unit, and 2 custom enclosures. The judges spent more time in my car then any other...they couldn't believe a bug could sound that good.
how about changing your channel name to " Dylan trys to talk tone over some loud unrelated repeated Techno"
I would but I think out of about 600 videos we only have ever used it like 3 times. I'd use it more but guitarists cant handle it lol.
@@DylanTalksTone its just the way especially its too loud in the mix, its meant to be BGM, at times it overtakes your voice, hence peoples comments, keep it lower and people wont even notice its there as your information will take focus. and the way you used one piece of music several times with obvious gaps where its stopped and restarted, instead of fade ins and out, if your gonna put music in do it justice and treat it well. doesnt take much effort in post. just saying LOL
Agreed. Not long after that video we changed up our monitoring situation. I think I edited that video on a laptop. Not really a problem anymore. That was a couple hundred videos ago lol.
Isn't the powered Kemper 600 watts and the Tonker 150 watts? Aren't you in danger of frying the Tonker?
I want to use this with a Celestion 50 Watt 8 Ohm Alnico gold speaker. Can this speaker handle the power out of the powered kemper? Thanks
Sounds like a Job for the EVM12L 200 Watt, Cleanest loudest Full rangest Guitar speaker ever. Not the Zakk Wyld version never tried that.
Hi Dylan, great vid . I'm reaching out I'd like some advice on the kemper , is there a foot control I can use . I'm a dynamic player and I use volume swells as well as a wah . What options do I have
Agree 100%. I also feel that way.
SILLY question, so I would not be able to use.my standard Marshall 4x12 cabs with it? Or would I need to have it go to a power amp first, then the cab?
If you have the Kemper that has no power amp, then you need to go a power amp not at guitar head because the guitar head has a preamp. If you have the powered kemper , you can use your 4x12 you just have to connect your speaker cable to the output of the kemper ang directly to the cabinet like normal guitar head
Out of the 600-700 profiles on my axe fx I can honestly say I only use about a quarter of them more than a couple times. I record different guitarists and they cycle through with their own guitar or one of mine until they get something they like, and we go from there
Isnt the wattage of the Kemper too high at 600w?
My Marshall 1960l 4x12 is 300w and my carvin 2x12 is 200w.
How is the kemper going to react with those wattages?
nope... worked great
@@DylanTalksTone You'll be fine ass long as you don't turn the Kemper up to 600W. The 600W rating on the Kemper is only what its capable of.
what speaker do you have in your cabinet?
