    I've served in the Navy (12 years), I've been a project manager, systems administrator and even a college professor and I have to say, Jerry's leadership style is the BEST way to get the most out of your people in terms of quality output, taking ownership, job satisfaction, employee moral, etc. How I wish I, and others, had his style.

    Ben Stiller made a good observation. Because he lacked training as an actor, Jerry was listening to the lines coming at him rather than focusing on his next line, as an actor would. This is why he was always smiling.

    • @DocRunaway
      @DocRunaway 6 років тому +5

      Still, very unusual. A trained actor at least know how important is to actually listen whereas most of amateurish actors just think that keep silence while the other character is talking and then just say their next line is enough for the audience to "understand."

    The more cartoony and preposterous the show became, the more it appealed to my sense of humor. So seasons 8 and 9 are amazing for me: Japanese men sleeping in a chest of drawers, George deciding to create a little den under the office desk, Kramer playing recorded music (on his bus tour) that sounds like the tune playing inside Disney's Splash Mountain, altering his life and home so that he's a talk show host ... it was all absolutely fantastic and funny as hell.

      I don't. These people are not the same as they were in the 1990s. Literally every atom in their bodies is different. I wish more people understood that time and place are at least as important as people when it comes to the creation of art. You can't just place Julia, Michael, Jason, and Jerry in a random room with Larry David and have buttgusting comedy come out. That's not how it works. Each of these people was at a particular point in their life when they made the show, as were all the other actors and directors and technicians and everything else. Those days are gone and they are never coming back. 1990s Jerry Seinfeld is dead and he is never coming back.

      It's surprising the amount of comedians who have made the transition from stand up or stage comedy to acting. I think it a lot of it has to do with them being natural hams, who enjoy being the center of attention, and have really honed there sense of timing, whether it be comedic or dramatic.
      Just to name a few: Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Jim Carey, Billy Crystal, Billy Connolly, Tim Allen, Steve Martin, Russell Brand, Ellen DeGeneres, Woody Allen, Richard Pryor, Red Fox, John Candy, Steve Carell, George Burns, Hugh Laurie, and many more too numerous to mention.

    Larry David was the brains... Jerry was the administrator who gets it done. The best duos always have that same dynamic... one is the truly creative one... the other guy is the motivator. Without Jerry, Larry David would be a really hilarious nobody. Without Larry David, Jerry would be a hardworking nobody.

That's how it works.

      eh, the theory probably has some validity in general, but is a bit too simplistic and not entirely as accurate as you are thinking
      Jerry wasnt a nobody when the show started, without the show he would certainly not have been a hardworking nobody. Larry David likely would have been nobody, at least in the sense of critical acclaim or large scale success (doesnt make him an actual nobody). He got the opportunity cause of Jerry and also would have quit early and often if not for Jerry
      Jerry wasnt getting an NBC pilot for a show about himself because he was a nobody though, he was already a well known comedian

    OK. People. The ones that think Jerry was not as funny as the other characters. Wrong. If George was doing his role and Jerry wasn't there to watch and be amused at George's expense, then George really isn't as funny. Kramer comes into the room, very funny, but if Jerry isn't there looking ammusingly annoyed that Kramer is eating his food, not so funny. Jerry is funny because he is laughing at these idiots. That's a big part of what makes the show funny.

      drServitis: this might help you: in order to even be allegedly “humble”, you first have to be perceived as having accomplished various things that might possibly make one not humble - in other words, act like an egotistical braggart.
      You sir, don’t have to worry about that.

    • @drServitis
      @drServitis 5 років тому +3

      @Daniel Travanti Well, according to the definition of the word humble you would be wrong. hum·ble
      adjective
      1. having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance.
      2. of low social, administrative, or political rank.
      No mention of needing actual importance relative to others to be humble, as you incorrectly said.
      boast·ful
      adjective
      showing excessive pride and self-satisfaction in one's achievements, possessions, or abilities.
      So you should consider me a boastful person because I show excessive self-satisfaction in saying/showing I am smarter than Daniel Travanti.

    I just got out of prison and Jerry started . I met Rose and we lasted till the show ended . I was Jerry and funny she was Elaine and on the rebound. So she left me when I mailed the money ...and it took a year to get there. So I never went back to jail but the last episode I saw them all go to jail for all the mean unthinking things that constitute....comedy. The reason I went to prison...24 broken bones head on collision 24 months hospital then no oxy...lots of pain... No help. And don't forget the judge . Same one that ruled a pot case...I was a first year law student . Hugh Hefner gave me a blank check to the Supreme Court. It made Judge Hancock the stupidest judge ...ever lived ... And he was not amused. So I basically went to jail on lies and violence and pride... It took three votes till az. woke up....somewhat. The real comedy was the prosecuting attorney and I were drinking buddies and of course I got to live long enough to piss on the arresting officers grave good bye Lloyd ... But I'm trained better. People can't help it if they were raised stupid. You can't fix stupid but duct tape will muffle the assholes

    Well.. season 9 is the best and 8 is close second. But maybe it's got more to do with development of the characters rather than Larry leaving.

      I love it that so many people hate it!:) The ending of Friends, Frasier, and Cheers shows just how brilliant it was.

      Peurto Rican day parade was the worst episode then the final.
      Sorry hut it wasn't funny at all and they embarrassed their own show so bad by not being funny at all !!!

      The episode itself isn't that funny, but the concept of the episode--Seinfeld and his friends ending with the ignominy they deserve--is hilarious. In retrospect it has kept growing on me more and more.

      Loved the final episode with appearances by so many of the bit players from the series. It was a sitcom rather than a narrative drama so it was harder to reach a conclusion that would satisfy a lot if people. In retrospect, I thought they succeeded.

    4:35 Cranston actually hits the nail on the head here. Seinfeld was clearly had the least talent as an actor on the show (I never once thought his standup was funny either). It was the other actors, certainly Louis-Dreyfus, Richards, and Alexander, but many of the supporting actors, and even the cadre of one-and-done, that made Seinfeld look better.

    Jerry was the worst in acting, he was laughing and smiling all the time, almost like bloopers. Kramer and George were the best.

      NO. NO. Sorry. If you think Jerry was the worst, you don't really understand what made that show work. Of course Jerry was laughing and smiling. He's supposed to be a stand up comedian. He's laughing at them and the audience is also laughing at them. Jerry is supposed to be the audience.
