As soon as I heard you say that it had a rubber tip I said "Nope!" But, it may be useful for just being in front of my house talking to my neighbors or getting the mail real quick.

I appreciate they're trying, and that the aluminum segments are good, but it sounds like they just thought one day "Hmmm, we want to make a cane for the blind!" then did so without doing much research ... like with placing that red bit awkwardly in the middle like a bloody knee on a white pair of pants, the fact it's only in one size because they didn't realize for mobility canes one size does NOT fit all, (I am about 5 ft 10 inches and use a 60-incher), and that rubber tip which NOBODY could use for mobility. I suppose like you said it could be a solidish support cane. I hope that, since they reached out to you in the first place, they'll take your review under advisement and improve themselves over time.

As always, another fantastic video, Sam. The cane wouldn't work for me, and as soon as you mentioned the tip being rubber, I knew that the biggest issue was going to be lack of tactile information. However, I'm glad that it exists for other people who have different needs. I also hope that the manufacture will consider making some improvements to it as well as offering it in different sizes. I personally like a 60 inch cane (when I do use a cane).
A few years ago, I watched some sighted youTuber do a blindfolded walk through Walmart or something silly like that. It wouldn't surprise me if they used this cane or somethings similar. I remember them mentioning that they had bought a "blind Kane" for nine dollars. Talk about a setup for a disaster. But I guess it was supposed to be funny. Hurrumph.

    Hi,
I have had three of these canes, till now.
I like the design, height and its thickness.
I don’t like that with the constant use (opening and closing) the double-cord snaps, after a very short period of time. The rubber end cap wears down quickly too and when that happens it becomes a lethal slip hazard.
I tried to replace the bungee-cord the first time that it snapped but it was a little beyond my abilities. As for the rubber end cap…I heat treated the existing one then put slightly bigger cap over the top, and its been great, ever since.
    Thanks for the show.

just received this cane in the mail. definitely a good cane for stability. not so much mobility. yep. definitely would be nice with different size lengths and probably do need to change the plastic handle. yep.

Sounds like a good cane for seniors experiencing vision loss, but reluctant to commit to the "real deal" mobility cane

Sam, thanks for a great review. Your points make perfect sense. It is nice to know that it came like this is quickly available from Amazon if you’re traveling inside my name to replace a broken key.
I generally travel with a back up cane, and even, a couple extra sections from older canes to do a quick repair. I know, I guess it was a Boy Scout. Lol.

I have a feeling they will take your feedback and improve the next version. For a low vis primary indoor w/ tile floors, this might be an option...but a backup cane for when someone runs over yours in the street, maybe?

Thank you for this video oddly enough I bought that same came several months ago and it's been at work but just last weekend I went camping and they had a natural spring area where you had to walk down a Rocky Hill with dips and crevices and slippy locations I wonder if that came wouldn't have been good for that trip?

I am having a knee replacement and this cane seems like it might be useful. I am legally blind but have "get around" vision, but this cane and a headlamp may be useful in low light while I heal.

I actually bought one of these and it isn’t that bad. I fixed the issue with the slick handle by using gorilla tape to give a more grippy texture. It seems to work fine.
The other thing I would like to mention is that it is only reflective on the red strip, and not any part of the white portion.

Thank you for the the review I think it's better to Kane has five parts because when I fold it I don't like handle and end of cane be in the same level.
I don't want to touch end of the cane, it is not killing!

Perhaps this is just a UK thing but that loop on the top of the cane is not a wrist strap, it's for making sure the cane folds, that's it.

Hello, this is exactly the first cain i ever used, yes it was way too short so i ordered a second one . I used one segment and sawed it in half added the top part to the top and the bottom part to the bottom this makes the cain about 12 inches longer. The rubber tip i removed it from the hook on part and now it just has the plstic pointy part. I peeled off all the red stickers. Then double looped the bungy cord and tighten it tigher . Lol yes i modified the heck out of it. This has been my cain for two years now , i ended up ordering a 3rd one and did the exact to it as i did with the other one since i had so many left over parts. Cons , yes its heavy could definitely be lighter but im not small and strong wrist this has been quite handy cain for me. .. i had tried order one from ambutech but since i am in alaska the shipping is 90 dollars thats twice the price of the cain itself. Thanks for your review. Greets Mak, enjoy the things you do :)

I have a question not related to this clip.
As a visually impaired using Android TalkBack service.
I want to use physical keyboard a Bluetooth keyboard like Logitech mk850 that has ability to connect to Android Samsung phone.
How can I ask talkback to read texts or statement when I am navigating by using arrow keys on this keyboard?
Similar time that I am using Jaws screen reader on my desktop.

With regards to the price - I've found that my state's council for the blind store sells Ambutech products far, far cheaper than Amazon. They even sell white support canes cut to length for $13.00 with the same rubber tip style. They then also sell rainshine fiberglass cut to length canes for $15.00. I'm pretty sure they also don't require you to be in my state, but I think it might be worth looking off Amazon if you don't need it overnight.

    • @seamarie3111
      @seamarie3111 Рік тому

Yep! Honestly, Ambutech is my preferred cane maker. I happily ordered my latest one from the manufacturer, even though it took a couple weeks to get here,. I ordered through MaxiAids in the past. However, in my opinion, ordering directly from Ambutech was worth it because I could choose what tip I wanted directly on my cane, as well as switch up the colors, giving it a lovely blue handle and end section.
I grew up on these, and while I had NFB canes pushed on me a LOT, I can't stand them.

I use a thick wooden white cane with a round crook handle. I know cars can see it better than a whisker cane. And, it looks like the classic white blind cane that drivers recognize as "a white blind cane". They even see it when I am standing still on a street corner. They almost always stop for me.

I like the price a lot, the cane not so much. I know a number of mature blind people who wills really love that cane as they only need a support/identity cane. Thanks for the review. Do you know of any less expensive telescoping canes? I think that would ve a good backup cane for me.
