- (26 Feb 2022) Russian troops stormed toward Ukraine’s capital Saturday, and street fighting broke out as city officials urged residents to take shelter.
The country's president refused an American offer to evacuate, insisting that he would stay.
As dawn broke in Kyiv, it was not immediately clear how far the soldiers had advanced. Ukrainian officials reported some success in fending off assaults, but fighting persisted near the capital.
Skirmishes reported on the edge of the city suggested that small Russian units were probing Ukrainian defenses to clear a path for the main forces.
The swift movement of the troops after less than three days of fighting further imperiled a country clinging to independence in the face of a broad Russian assault, which threatened to topple the democratic government and scramble the post-Cold War world order.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered renewed assurance Saturday that the country’s military would stand up to the Russian invasion. In a video recorded on a downtown street, he said he had not left the city and that claims that the Ukrainian military would put down arms were false.

Ukraine is going to fall if we don't change strategies. Protesting is like cheerleading in a football game. It's not going to have any effect.
Sadly in wars throughout history this has happened again and again. In almost all wars there are atrocities. Look at almost any conflict and you will find evidence of executions, and the murder of civilians. War is not glorious. It is bloody, messy and painful and nearly always leaves a terrible legacy that takes maybe generations to heal.

I have the same thought too but it is more complicated than we think. First the cameraman does not want to reveal defensive layout. He just show the inner side of it. There should me many layers outside otherwise the Russians have come in a long time already. The fighting is probably more than 5km away. They dont show that

That's a bit of a contradiction. If Ukraine have the right to be a free sovereign Nation then they also have the right to decide who they ally with. Putin has no say. Hes a relic, living in the past with outdated ideologies. NATO poses no threat to Russia, its a defensive military alliance formed by definition to prevent Russian aggression in Europe. If Russia isn't aggressive, NATO stays quiet, simple as.

@@eogo13 yes but Putin doesn't look at it that way. Remember the Cuban missile crisis? Americans freaked out because the enemy was on their doorstep. Yes there were nukes involved but it's the same thing. Banning Ukraine from joining NATO probably would have prevented this. It isn't right but sometimes you have to make hard decisions. Eventually putin would go away and then ukraine could push to join EU/NATO.

Ukraine, by adding to constitution intention of joining NATO and legalizing Nazi military groups, touched the red line of Russia. Then ofc u can say Russia has the freedom of attacking ukraine, but that ofc doesn't respect the core value of ukraine. That is the reality unfortunately faced by minor powers. The government in Taiwan chooses not to claim independence or change their Chinese constitution, so that they dont touch the red line of the PRC government. So freedom is one thing but respect of core value must be kept in mind when exercising freedom. US is the only exception while it is the strongest country and biggest power in the world.

I agree, and Israel deserves sanctions (altough it's not a war per se). I know it's frustrating, but some people use that as an argument to support the invasion of Ukraine and the killing hundreds of civilians (source : united nations), and that is sad.

Why are just sandbags being put in place? They should block all roads leading to the city using old or new heavy machineries like tractors,trucks,lorries or even shipping containers! Sandbags can be easily run over while those heavy trucks and containers can hamper and delay the advances of the armored columns since they need to be clear first before they can pass thru! Thus giving time for reinforcements and setting up of ambushes!

For last 8 yrs Russia tried to find solution. asked to stop bombing Donbass, asked for demilitarization of that region, but the last agreements of nuclear weapons supply in Ukraine (You would never find it in west media) has become a point of no return.
Good solution did they find. What do you think, who sent weaponry to donbass and who armed them. There are videos online "russian roulette" documentary from 2014 2015 clearly showing supplies were from Russia (boxes were exposed on russia language and had other visible markings of russian make). If those donbas militias werent armed, there wouldnt have been so much suffering in the first place. Even after signing Minsk agreement russia continued to ship weaponry and supplies to prolong donbass war. Now look what it turned into...

Blow up yourself to destroy a bridge is an insane thing to do. Why can't the Army Assault Pioneer Unit destroy the bridge with their skills. Forming a human barrier (human shield) to block Russian Army convoy to move is suicide. The fact is that most of the Ukrainian soldiers and high ranking officers have given up their arms and turned into civilians hiding somewhere, after Russian President gave a stern advice for them to give up. No point of continuing fighting for the course of politicians who come and go, who benefits only for their own party and members in the party. They all become wealthy when they become politicians holding high positions in the government.
Nato shouldn't take the warning by Russia to use its nuclear arsenal as a thing to be laughing about.
