I don't think your explanations are negative at all. It helps to explain both the good or bad life situations with your farm. To me... it's just your life right now. Keep up the great work!
I’m a nurse and a teacher by work history. I know zero about farming, I stumbled onto you, I am fascinated. I have no doubt that you are just getting started in what you’ll achieve in your lifetime. And I’ll enjoy watching it happen!
don't worry about the negativity. You payed good money for your bin project and you need to have it done right ! I bet your Grampa would say " the squeaky wheel gets oiled" so keep after the contractor to get it right ! Love your videos!
I know nothing about farming Cole but you are a hard working man and to see all that you have done is awesome. Your family and grandpa must be so proud of you!!! I wish you nothing but the best in life, family, farming & happiness!
Cole, I'm sorry that you're going through all this with the bin site. Hopefully soon everything with the law suit will have a great outcome & all the problems with the bin site will be fixed. Prayers for all of the Cornstar family
It’d be interesting to see the long-term yield of intercropping since the corn and soybeans are going to impact the soil and other conditions differently. They may even impact pests differently as there is greater distances between plants and temperatures can change more. I hope you do this long-term.
"The bin site has once again provided us with an opportunity" An opportunity to work on our patients, self control and mind set. Your doing great! Keep it up! We enjoy the content!!
Yes well done hope your soybeans do just as well thanks for keeping up doing what you all do with out you farmers we would be lost thanks to all you farmers for what you all do
Yup... that's what I figured with the locked rotor current blowing the fuses. First check voltage at breaker....that will tell you that you haven't lost a supply phase. Then check voltage on both sides of the fuses 🙂
Your not negative Cole , not at all . We understand how you feel. You invested a lot of money in that site, all you wanted to do is make the farm run smoother. You do make the farm run a lot more efficient.. Sometimes you just pick the wrong contractor . Hopefully it will all work out . I hope you win the law suit . ❤🌽🌽🌽
Man it sucks to see the bin site is so badly done. But as a non farmer and a major gamer who just works and plays games, I LOVE hearing about how badly it's done. i can't wait for you to get your day in court. Somthing about you explaining how its meant to work but showing its working wrong is so entertaining. Plz keep recording over here and talking to us about what you're comfortable. Good luck man you will survive were here for ya!
Cole, you are fine, man. It is good you show the good and bad. Life is full of ups and downs. You are sharing your life on the farm. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
It’s okay Cole harvest time always brings out the worst of us especially when things don’t work well hang in there buddy harvest season will be over soon
Cole, Whilst frustrating as all heck, do not apologize for the bin fiasco. You are all trying your best to work with a difficult situation. It will get settled eventually. Just stay safe. Congratulations on your winning yield. That yield is amazing. Next level!
Don’t worry about your negativity. Sometimes it helps just to get it off your chest. Please you and your family take care. You guys are fixing a lot of dangerous things on that farm. We need to keep you happy and healthy. You are in my prayers.
I was an electrician on a new bin site with a similar capacity issue to the one you seem to have. The angle auger coming out of a hopper bottom bin to feed the dryer would overamp at about 20% of the projected flow of corn. After some trial and error, swapping pulleys etc, the millwright eventually cut off the double helix at the bottom of the auger flighting and the issue went away.
Don't worry about sharing your frustrations, it is real life for you and everyone should understand. I worked in a grain elevator when I was a young man, and every time something new was added it was buggy, and took time to get it running better let alone dealing with breakdowns that happen all the time.
It’s so interesting seeing your results of your test acreage. It’s amazing I never knew planting different size rows would make a changes. You are a good teacher, I find myself drawn in listening too you every time. BTW your family makes me laugh so much I don’t find anything negative with your blogs.
I found your youtube page last week and have been binge watching ever since……fyi….my beautiful wife was born and raised in Marshalltown and I grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska and we met and married in Germany 54 fantastic years ago…..I love my beautiful Marshalltown girl! Great videos bring back farm memories for me!
Omg, I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to look forward to something, spend a load of money on it and it doesn’t seem like even one part of it works properly. I pray that you guys get a resolution to this issue.
Congratulations, thank you for sharing your lives with us. I have always respect fir farmers. I have much more respect for farmers since i have been watching your channel.
Cole don’t stop showing the good & bad in farm life as for me I know how to pray for y’all bro. Besides as a retired minister I’ve a great deal of experience in this field. Rev. Paul, Eustis Florida.
I'm glad you showed the spreadsheet with some cost analysis on it. Most farm channels talk about yield, but without the other numbers that doesn't mean much to the rest of us.
Don’t forget for double time and fuel when you have to do over-passes on frequent break intercropping. Also, having such high production will require more fertilizer next year. Don’t be surprised when your mono tanks next year if you plant in your “playground”.
Wow! Very cool experiment Cornstar fellas! Seems worth the extra work to plant 2 crops together in a field! Awesome! I LOVE learning this! You are an excellent instructor Cole! 🌽🌽🌽🌽
Your control crop numbers and willingness to try a new crop management is the kind of things my office with the USDA would be so excited about for the farmer. Back then, only 1 farmer had a computer, and knew how to use it. We didn't have any computers in our office 😂. So, this would have been huge news to share with others. Or, sometimes, just breaking even in a bad year, that's fantastic...in an average year, time for a celebration. People don't understand that bumper crop years aren't always a good thing for a farmer. That usually means the market price goes down because the supply/demand ratio is too close. This year, we're feeding several countries, so it should be okay. This is absolutely fascinating stuff! Congratulations on your control crop, ya did great! 🙂❤️
We have been doing the same concept as intercrop with a mono crop setup. We plant our corn in rows we call train rails. 2 Rows planted two rows not planted and then 2 rows planted again across the entire planter. The row density is higher to maintain a hectare density that is still the same. We have considerably higher yields and in drought years it is a life safer. Kind regards here from South Africa.
To empty a plugged auger using a 3 phase motor just switch 2 of the wires of the motor. It will then run backwards emptying the auger at the bottom. learned from experience.
When intercropping with short and tall crops, align the rows parallel to the suns travel (E/W or W/E) to ensure the short crop gets the maximum sunlight.
Wow! What an interesting experiment! Your explanations are great, even I can understand them!😂😂. You aren’t being negative, you are a little frustrated, and that’s okay. Not everything is roses and sunshine! And it does us good to see the reality of things.. love all of y’all’s channels!!😊❤
It’s amazing how right our grandparents were. My Grandpa picked corn with a one row corn picker so his rows were further spaced apart compared to todays rows. So can help accomplish the intercrop while being monocrop.
Because grapes grow readily where I am, to increase quality and decrease yields, I planted my vines like they do in europe where space is premium which is extremely tight and half the spacing we average in the US. It does decrease my total pounds of fruit but it increases the quality. In the US 8 feet between vines and rows is quite normal, in europe 3-4 feet between rows and vines. Which forces them to fight for resources and tends to lower the yields.
Yeah Cole, do t worry about what your saying. It's helping you to relieve pressure from yourself and the issues. I thi k we all understand bad contractors. I was one for 15 years and often came behind the guy who didn't care or blew it and walked away. Keep up the good work and I hope to find that your mixed crops were a win this season.
Cole don't think you're being negative at all you're showing the good and the bad of farming and I really appreciate everything that you put out and by the way I do have a little gift I'll be emailing to you very soon
You never regret buying the best. It might hurt on the front end, but the lowest bidder is low for a reason. A panel with breakers instead of fuses would solve some problems.
Cole, your comments are not nearly as negative as you think. Your farm made a large investment for the future of your operations. You expect to get a systematic that is designed and installed properly. My prayers that it all gets fixed soon
I think YOU and your family are incredible farmers. I learn so much from your videos. I had no idea of the complexities of modern day farming. I’m so impressed with you guys.
The motors on your augers should have an overload relay on the starter that should shut it down if it goes over current. The overload relay is reset by pressing a reset button or turning a lever. This eliminates blowing fuses which can cause a single phase condition. With an overload relay, if the motor overloads, it turns off all three lines to the motor.
Wow your driveways look so clean and spacious. I enjoy the positive and negative parts of your videos. Just as real as it should be. Your grand parents would be so proud of all you have done in such a Short time. Be well and thanks for allowing us all to share your journey. 🇨🇦🙋👩🌾
if you are burning belts, the larger of the 2 pulleys is not large enough, or the Small pulley is not small enough.. more Torque. Congrats on the WIN !!!!
Don't worry about negative comments. They are part of a bigger picture which you inform us with each video. It's reality. Now on to the yield part of this video. It was absolutely fascinating. Can't wait for the soy bean numbers. I'm sort of a numbers geek so I followed you every step of the way. The way you are working your land to maximize yield (and profits) should make any farmer envious. Way to go Cole.
Actually, for many of us non-farmers, your problems are pretty interesting. Solving/coping with them seems to be a lot of what modern farming is about.
I got worn out watching your 33 minute video, I can't imagine what you feel like after an 18 hour day. I also appreciate you pushing the edge in technology and crop yield when many are hoping just get through the day without a breakdown. Your information will help others in the long run. Stay safe.
It's been a long wait for the powers that be to figure out the mess that is your bin sight. You would think sending a professional out there to look it all over and see with their own eyes, what is wrong, and compensate you for your loss, and, or, fix it all. I hope it's almost over. I like hearing about how the bin sight is performing. That's all part of your farming, and you have to figure it all in there. On the crop yields. Wow, great job Corn Star Farms!
This intercropping is an interesting experiment. The 12+12 row configuration is the most practical with the size of the headers, however would you be able to match the soil-preparation to it as well since the two crops require different nutrients? Small correction to the conversion: 1-hectare = 2.47105381=acres.
i have a suggestion for you Cole when you work out the best row configuration maybe fertilise a section as control and a section of high management to see if the yield would increase or maybe try all your row confinement again next year and do it with high management to see if you get a different result and find that you prefer a different row configuration then you do with just your control
Amazing! What a boost it will be if those intercropping numbers hold up. Kudos for being willing to try different approaches and being as scientific about it as possible.
I’m no farmer like the majority who follow your channel, but percentage wise the difference is astounding. If it means anything, iffin I was on a civil jury the foundation support failure and bin safety issues alone would cost them dearly. Figuring the loss of production would be huge. In short I would be ciphering the cost of tear down, rebuild plus loss of use percentages to calculate the civil award. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t settle.
You were not being negative about the drying process, simply explaining how things work. In this case, you were showing your disappointment that from the computer, fuses/electrical issues, and the bins, things were not working the way they should, thereby slowing everything down. This is also a great way to show exactly what the entire process in your lawsuit is all about. What better way to testify than record the problem in real time.😊❤
Рік тому+1
Feel for you cole i really do hope it all pans out in the eñd and gets sorted 🙏
Thank you for doing all that very interesting. Next year might do some narrow row stuff. Been my experience that if the only thing you change is row width to 15” you gain 10-15 bushel increase. Doing that creates new problems for your other equipment. I have been doing narrow rows for 22 years now and I not going back to 30” rows. Kansas farmer.
I'm so glad to see you using range finding experiments and control groups to determine potential outcomes of what turns out to be engineering experiments. I work on the development of pacemakers and other implantable medical devices and use pretty much the same set of tools to determine how to build the most reliable devices. Stats and creating design of experiments is not something I credit those outside of the engineering community with. Thanks for proving me wrong.
I truly enjoy your content, your explanati 33:23 ons and thought process. You have a wonderful family, and I would like to see more of Cooper, too. He should have his own channel for that different perspective, plus his hay sideline. Thank you for sharing your family with us viewers.
You’re not complaining! You’re educating and venting at the same time! Some day this situation will help a future farmer avoid the same pitfalls/ pitfalls fails! Pun intended 😅
I didn’t take it as negative..it’s informative to us your viewers. I can’t speak for everyone else but I’ve been wondering about the problems with the bins. So thanks for the update
looks like next time you do this it’ll be worth taking the devastators off! Plus you had to run some over. Intercrop farming makes total sense. It’s kinda like “3 sisters”, or corn, green beans & squash. Green beans climb the corn, squash is a ground cover.
Intercrop farming makes absolutely perfect sense. The key to intercropping would be having 2 combines properly configured for harvesting the intercrop is vital. It would be ideal to run two combines at the same time each harvesting different crops.
Amazing breakdown of the numbers. I appreciate the time that went into it and your detail oriented nature. I hope you all have a great rest of harvest!
As they say "its not what you do its how you react to it." Just roll with it and keep innovating and you'll have a bright future. We get to play with PLCs and conveyors every day (luggage) that will always give you "gifts". 🙂
Something else to try on the combine if you haven't already, put a 5 degree offset in the shoe. The single rotor combine load up heavy on the RH side, offsetting the shoe helps to spread it out better and get more capacity out of you cleaning system. You should be able to pretty easily run 4500-5000 bu/hr through that machine and keep the loss under 1%
I’m a contractor but I can totally understand what you’re going through. I see your problems from the other side. We have customers that deny us initial access or make small changes that are hardly worth a change order or change the schedule and then when we suffer financial harm and try to discuss it we are blackballed. That’s a oversimplified version. One thing I will say is going with someone that’s cheaper and less qualified generally as a rule has a greater chance to fail just because of the lack of experience in managing and staffing projects. You were absolutely right in your lawsuit and disappointment in such a large financial venture for your operation.
Intercrop testing was very interesting, What effect will more planting/harvesting passes have on equipment wear, fuel & labor coast. Can you plant shorter corn on the outside rows? If planting beans first, could you plant at an angle to the corn rows by turning on & off the planter heads as they pass over the corn rows making the sickle bar fully used & not just two teeth per bean row. Looks like a hug can of worms just got kicked over so maybe we should do some fishing for more ideas, LOL. If you boys & your dad want to meet in Waterloo or Marshalltown & kick that can around the block & see what falls out, I will provide the hot chocolate & soft drinks. Love your families' videos, God bless.
You need to look into getting an internet connection to the switch board for the bin site (corvette). When you have that you can setup a VPN link for your control guy so he can check your system remotely and might save you sum call out cost as he’ll be charging you to get to site and can probably be able to help you faster in an emergency.
Love your integrity, honesty, hard work, and intelligence 😮. Give God the Glory, Great things He has done 💕. Continue practicing Gratitude and counting the gifts God has given to you❤
I don't think your explanations are negative at all. It helps to explain both the good or bad life situations with your farm. To me... it's just your life right now. Keep up the great work!

I agree 💯
I disagree
The credit goes to the entire Corn Star team. All play a vital roll for success.
Congratulations Cole on Winning the US Corn harvest
It’d be interesting to see the long-term yield of intercropping since the corn and soybeans are going to impact the soil and other conditions differently. They may even impact pests differently as there is greater distances between plants and temperatures can change more. I hope you do this long-term.

I would name the bin site "Uranus", just so you get a chuckle every time it comes up.
Made me laugh. However how appropriate
I love how much science and research you do on your own field, out of your own pocket. I can’t wait to see the outcome of your experiments!
Without dad and brother. Nothing would happen
Cole, Whilst frustrating as all heck, do not apologize for the bin fiasco. You are all trying your best to work with a difficult situation. It will get settled eventually. Just stay safe. Congratulations on your winning yield. That yield is amazing. Next level!
Cole you are educating all of us on what farmers deal with on the daily. Thank you and thank your family for us.

I was hoping the “I won” title was related to the lawsuit.
I hope they get all the money back on the bin site plus a few hundred thousand dollars for damages and suffering!
Congratulations, thank you for sharing your lives with us. I have always respect fir farmers. I have much more respect for farmers since i have been watching your channel.

This episode was amazeballs! Thanks for including us in this adventure.
Congratulations Cole and Nave on the news of expecting your second baby!! ❤ Funny how you slip that in 😅
Don’t forget for double time and fuel when you have to do over-passes on frequent break intercropping.

We need more American farmers doing what you and your family are doing.
Much success to you and your land.
Also congrats on your new baby.
I love seeing intercropping on the industrial ag scale! thanks for sharing

You have a great channel, no worries on venting, it’s natural… keep positive & working hard..
I truly enjoy your content, your explanati 33:23 ons and thought process. You have a wonderful family, and I would like to see more of Cooper, too. He should have his own channel for that different perspective, plus his hay sideline. Thank you for sharing your family with us viewers.
Cooper does have his own channel
You’re not complaining! You’re educating and venting at the same time! Some day this situation will help a future farmer avoid the same pitfalls/ pitfalls fails! Pun intended 😅
I didn’t take it as negative..it’s informative to us your viewers. I can’t speak for everyone else but I’ve been wondering about the problems with the bins. So thanks for the update
Well done on ur win Cole. 🏆
looks like next time you do this it’ll be worth taking the devastators off! Plus you had to run some over. Intercrop farming makes total sense. It’s kinda like “3 sisters”, or corn, green beans & squash. Green beans climb the corn, squash is a ground cover.
Cole! You’re making me seasick with your filming and moving your camera around so much! Lol
Thank you Cole! God bless your family!
Congratulations on all the figuring the crop planting. Outcome is fantastic 👏
Intercrop farming makes absolutely perfect sense. The key to intercropping would be having 2 combines properly configured for harvesting the intercrop is vital. It would be ideal to run two combines at the same time each harvesting different crops.
So happy for you congratulations!!!
Amazing breakdown of the numbers. I appreciate the time that went into it and your detail oriented nature. I hope you all have a great rest of harvest!
We feel you frustration, we all want your stuff to operate as advertised too. Interesting corn results.
Cole congratulations looks like you will be a family of four soon how exciting! God bless you and your family.
As they say "its not what you do its how you react to it." Just roll with it and keep innovating and you'll have a bright future. We get to play with PLCs and conveyors every day (luggage) that will always give you "gifts". 🙂
Keep working hard and your yields will only get better.
The study/experiment you're doing is so interesting. Can't wait for the final results! 😊
No need to apologize it’s frustrating you are handling it professionally keep up the videos and keep your head up
So proud of your family ❤
I’m not a farmer but you make interesting content about your work
Same!
Yes!
Congratulations 🎉 incredible job well done.
Continue practicing Gratitude and counting the gifts God has given to you❤
That is so awesome!! You deserve it!
At 4:55 mind blown…….so many wires, machines…..having to know it all. 🎩 hats off boys!
I actually like to hear some of the negative stuff, such as the the bin site issues. Keepin it real man!
