Just a thought: If you're going to specifically highlight looping, you might want to pick a track that isn't just a kick and a snare. There's no audible difference between a 1-beat loop and a 16-beat loop.
Thanx man great video! For the past 6 years I've been a controller DJ and after watching this video a couple times I killed it at the club and it was my first time ever on the cdjs
lol wtf. I didn't even realize that this was you talking through the entirety of this video. But yes. Learned a lot! I practice every day for an hour when we don't have DJ's booked at the venue and am already starting to mix my own tracks for recording. looking forward to the rest of your series. Thanks Christian!!
Christian, thanks for the video. I've been dj-ing longer than I care to remember and only in recent years moved to CDJs (i am a vinyl dinosaur haha) but the functions on the 2000s I've just ignored and stuck to doing everything manually old school vinyl style. Learnt a lot from the video. Thanks.
Young Chris! Edit: I stayed through the video for the lol but this video is genuinely very informative, so much it's even better than some tutorials of today!
To enable the needle search feature, make sure the deck is playing, press down on the platter with your thumb/hand and then search on the needle strip!
I'll make a video about it tonight, but the easiest way is to hit the instant 4 beat loop button below the in/out loop buttons then immediately pressing the loop out button (it will start flashing) then pressing the [32] on the needle strip. Have to do it before the first 4 beats loop though, because the automatic loop is set for 4 beats until you press 32.
It depends on your budget, I'd first of all recommend trying as many different setups as possible by befriending other DJs and learn the different types of setups. Then, depending on your budget, set your sights on your own players. I'd recommend the Pioneer CDJ350 players and whatever mixer you can find in your budget.
It's still wild to me that "the art of DJ'ing" now assumes track analysis and that all the equipment has embedded support for beat quantization. Looking forward to your rekordbox deep-dive; curious whether it has good support for tracks in which the tempo changes, and how the 'nudging' feature on the CDJ hardware interacts with those situations.
hey that was really cool back there, so i bought one of those pioneer cdj 2000 and i don't know how to create effect like echo.......and i would like for you to show me how do you mix songs in the next video thank you have a good day
Hey man, great tutorial! Just one quick question. Can i somehow possibly get all the cue points from vitrual dj (computer software) into a USB and then transfer them onto the CDJ?
Hey, just a question, I saw that before you make a loop your have to press play, is it possible to activeted the loop on the four first beat before you hit play ? My question is for all the cdj from cdj 2000 Thank you
hello christian I got a question that is killing me maybe you can help me is the regular cdj 2000 almost the same as the nexus or the difference is huge because I'm trying to figure out get a pair of the cdj 2000 used or go for the xdj 1000 used or new?
Question about the saving to memory of a cue point. When you save it to memory, is that saving it to the memory of the CDJ, or the track itself on the USB. For instance if I save that cue point and then pull that track up in rekordbox after rentering it into rekordbox after using the CDJ, will it show up? Thanks, Ryan
Hi Mate! If is playingback and I want to select my cue point without affecting the playback, how can I do that? What is the difference marking a cue point and a hot cue? Thanks for the tutorial, it is really good!
Hello. Cool video for some CDJ basics. Thanks. I have a question though, what would be the quickest way to set an (almost instant) 32 bar loop? Thanks in advance. (=
just a question. i’m reasonably new to djing. was wondering if most djs if their doing a double drop in a set or something, do they have cue points already set, like a cue point let’s say 15 bars or something from the drop on both tracks. is that a common thing?
hi mate, there is one thing i would like to know i have this cdj but virtually pioneer can you tell me how to add folders of music and how to search them? i do know how to add a song but not how to add folders of songs.
In rekordbox you can either /2 or x2 the bpm of a track..especially usefull now when a lot of dj´s go thru a various amount of bpm thru a set, me included. Is this possible to do on the fly on the cdj? Let´s say a dubstep track is originally set to 70bpm, but you might want it to show 140bpm..or the other way around. If this is possible, it would be great if you could share your knowledge about that :)
Which is this "recordbox software" you talk about? Is there any specific program to save the hot cues for the CDJs or...? Which would be the most recommended software? :S Thanks
how do i set the loop even b4 i press play on the song, while its paused on headphones. do i just go to that spot click in? and will it set? how do i extend it while paused also?? i wana mix at open deck nights without having to bring my controller. so i dont currently own cdjs
Looserdoll Cue points automatically save to the rekordbox database on your flash drive. You only need one as long as the other decks are connected via LAN
Say for example I've stored all my memory cue points exported to usb have auto cue on Aswell. When I load a track will it start every time at the first kick or do I need to call them? Moving from cdj 1000 mk3 to nexus 2 and need to get my head around rekordbox. Cheers.
+jamie gulliford change auto cue mode to "first memory cue" in rekordbox settings and the cdj will automatically call the first memory cue to be ready for you to hit play
+Christian Jackson thanks, been watching a few of your videos. Very informative, do you think the nexus 2 I better than the original? And is there a firmware update for the player and 900 nexus 2.? Cheers.
Hey! Every new version may seem similar to the ones before, but they're not, really. Hats off to Pioneer for keeping all the basics the same since the first CDJ-1000, which makes it very easy to get used to one modell, and with almost no learning curve, step up and make a perfect job on another one. Under the shell is where the magic happens, or in the software, as it is a computer disguised as a DJ-player. Also the hardware improves with each modell. To compare the original 2000 with the 2000NXS2 is like comparing the CDJ-500 to the CDJ-1000Mk3. When I got the CDJ-2000Nexus, I believed it couldn't get any better, at least not anything that would affect my way of playing.... ha ha :D .Wrong! Since I got the NXS2's, there's things I get used to that I really miss when I play on the Nexus in the clubs. When I occasionally play on the original 2000, it feels like a CDJ-1000Mk3 with a blue wave form and I load the music from USB and not CD's. Such a small thing as missing minute markers hits you when you're used to have that on the newer models. They are visually very important when measuring the parts to mix when the tracks are substantial different in length. All the other little things like turning Quantize off/on, using the slip and slip/roll, setting hot cues on the fly and the speed the NXS2 read my SSD's with... Every button and the jog wheel feels smoother and still more responsive and extremely precise. Hard to explain but you''ll understand when you get your hands on them :) . About the firmware for the NXS's. There's a continuing update process on both the CDJ-2000NXS2 and the DJM-900NXS2, so it's very important to keep the firmware updated. Now it's not only stability updates but also new functionality added. Like the new 16 beat beatjump, which was only 1 beat at the introduction. Also compatibility issues with the other linked equipment, players and the DDJ-SP1 is fixed by these updates. This goes for the whole lineup of CDJ's, XDJ's and DJM's, as you may use them in a mixed environment.
jamie gulliford: It's OK, Sorry i didn't see your comment earlier... :) . If you check my profile, you can see a few vids where I use my gear. Still practice on my older gear now and then to stay in contact with reality and not get too used to play on only the latest gear. When I play house music, as in the vids, I prefer clean mixing with very little or no effects, well some filter maybe ha ha. The result is usually the same whether I use my 1000Mk3's/DJM-250 or NXS2 setup. Playing in clubs is another story... I play almost every and any genre out there, from RnB HipHop & Dancehall to sing-a-long and Top40 and even 50's/60&Rock... No limits :) . I need good allround gear that lasts and is reliable and with Pioneer high end models you do get what you pay for. One aspect that not always comes to mind is after market, value and service. Most people only get lost in the initial cost, which is really a newbie mistake. The access to spare parts and qualified service when needed is extremely important if you gear is used to make money. Renting gear is not a solution unless you have a good buddy helping you out. My Nexus's are after 4 years of use, every week, in mint condition and you'd never believe the hours they've been in use. Now, they are my road kit when needed and just this last week some idiot pored a full glas of coke over the setup when I still played on another floor. The clubs mixer was totally fried and one of my Nexus's got a fair share of it too. The power was on and it was already sticky when I got there and i spent the following day disassembly the player and cleaning it thoroughly. You don't need to be a technical genius to do that, because everything is setup to be easily maintained. Soldering should be left to the pro's, but most of the parts is connected by a screw and ribbon cables. So when out of warranty, it's quite easy to give a first aid yourself. For parts, you can build your own player from the parts available :) . In my case, the digital audio out and the platter sensor was ruined, which means that when in vinyl mode, the music won't play but you can still scratch. It's like holding the platter. The rest of the player survived the drink and worked perfect. Even the pitch fader was as precise as it should, and it was right where most of the drink entered, and no sticky buttons. If I'd been in a panic mode, I could've used the player as it were for a while. I have other gear so I send mine in for repair. By taking apart and do the cleaning and fail test I saved a lot of money as time is the most costly part of the service/repair. I also know when it's time to pay, how long it actually takes to disassembly and reassembly the player, for an amateur like me. So if the time taken doesn't fit the bill... This is what gives Pioneers top of the line a very good value on the used market. The big drop is during the first year, but still after 4 years of use I'll get half my money back if I were to sell. For me the value is in using them and +400 payed gigs and practice in between give them a very high value. The repair I do now is the first money I spend since I got them. If they last another 200 payed gigs, the value will be outstanding, and looking at my 1000Mk3's, they probably will, with ease. Even all the buttons are still as clicky as new. I tap my buttons and doing that they last. With quality like that I feel that the NXS2 setup may be the last setup I ever buy, but that was what I was thinking with the Nexus's too :) . Sorry for the long and rambling comment. I had a 5 hour gig last night in a club where the cooling system was broken... and it was a crazy night... and some idiot put a whole case of Red Bull in the Booth... and an even bigger idiot drank more than half of 'em in the heat... still spinning...
Okay so i have come from Traktor and got a residency where i can't bring in my controller. I love being able to set a 32 beat loop and being able to move the whole loop to a different part of a track. example: I start the loop in a drop of 32 beats. then i like to move that 32 beat loop to the previous 32 beat loop (the build up) so that i can flawlessly mash up a new song with the drop of another. Can you have the freedom on CDJs to skip around in the track with your loop? sorry i don't know how to clearly express what i am asking. Did that make sense?
On the CDJ-2000/NXS/2 and the XDJ's you can use the hot loops to create a similar workflow. But fr that to work smoothly it's really only an option with the NXS2's and the XDJ-1000Mk2, where you have access to 8 hot/cues-loops, and can set/use them on the fly. As it is 2 banks you can use B1 for cues and B2 for loops.
Yep, move the track to that point in the song, hit the loop in button. It also functions as the set cue point button. Then you can store that cue with the memory button.
hello christian, i have an issue with random looping when i scratch and/or move eh platter to cue up. also, the sound cuts off unless i hold the needle search. do u have any ideas on how i can fix this?
hey christian, thanx for getting back to me - i found out that i had to reset the software. i use a controller on smaller jobs & when i changed back to my cdi 2000s, it didn't configure right. once, i reset the software, it was business as usual. thanx again for actually responding.
If I'm playing a song on 1 deck and while playing I need to loop a 2 beat count and bring in another song. I have this 2 beat count saved as a memory cue. But how do I make sure the cdj plays this 2 beat loop when it reaches the memory cue?
Friendly Akt You can only do that on nexus players with an Active loop. This is a loop that turns red in rekordbox and will activate as soon as the deck reaches that point.
+Eugenia R. Beer Hey, I just checked the price for the CDJ on Amazon & the price you saw $549 is for the CDJ1000. That is not a nexus.. If you want your CDJ to do that looping feature Christian mentioned, you will need either a CDJ900nexus $1399 a CDJ2000nexus $1999 or even a XDJ1000 $999 will do the trick. The XDJ1000 is the only one in the bunch that doesn't play CD's but will play everything else. That is also a very nice unit & works with a touch screen. I had to comment. Didn't want you buying something that didn't work for you. Good luck..
Let’s recommend this after 7 years
let's recommend this after 11 years
Just a thought: If you're going to specifically highlight looping, you might want to pick a track that isn't just a kick and a snare. There's no audible difference between a 1-beat loop and a 16-beat loop.
Without these videos, my first time on cdjs last night probably would of been a disaster. Thanks a lot man! Really appreciate the great tutorials.
Very helpful!! Finally, someone who does not take 30 minutes to explain a basic concept. Well done, and thank you for posting!
Thanx man great video! For the past 6 years I've been a controller DJ and after watching this video a couple times I killed it at the club and it was my first time ever on the cdjs
+oscar88orellana i would love to be a Dj.
then be one :)
controller djs switching to cdjs kill it on cdjs I hate controllers but love my cjs
lol wtf. I didn't even realize that this was you talking through the entirety of this video. But yes. Learned a lot! I practice every day for an hour when we don't have DJ's booked at the venue and am already starting to mix my own tracks for recording. looking forward to the rest of your series. Thanks Christian!!
Oh man i have a gig in 2 hours on a cdj2000 and its the first time i didn t bring my numark and your video is perfect to know little bit about it 😁👍🏿
Hope your gig went well!
Why did this pop into my comment section. Dude you were so young.
yea lmao looks so different :D
oh god :D you were so young :D
Christian, thanks for the video. I've been dj-ing longer than I care to remember and only in recent years moved to CDJs (i am a vinyl dinosaur haha) but the functions on the 2000s I've just ignored and stuck to doing everything manually old school vinyl style. Learnt a lot from the video. Thanks.
This video taught me exactly what i needed thanks man it was very useful and very well explained
Young Chris!
Edit: I stayed through the video for the lol but this video is genuinely very informative, so much it's even better than some tutorials of today!
UA-cam recommended this to me now, video alone shows how far we have come.
To enable the needle search feature, make sure the deck is playing, press down on the platter with your thumb/hand and then search on the needle strip!
Thanks for making this video. This is the first time I've understood why there would be a cue button separate from hot cues. Good explanation.
Thank you!! I just bought a cdj 2000 and this helped a lot 🙌
Oh my god young boi Christian
Wow, young Christian looking fresh!
The track is called WOW - Yves V & Felguk
The best value of time spent. Thanks!!
Good to go back to this as a new user as the tutorials for the new ones nexus2 don’t give you the basics of cue points and looping nice one
It depends on your budget, I'd first of all recommend trying as many different setups as possible by befriending other DJs and learn the different types of setups. Ahaha came across this old gem, Christian looks completely different now ahah
for real lol i was like...what? christian jackson..but...he looks so different! lmao
I didn't wtf is going on here till I watched this. Thanks a lot!
Really nice, straightforward video. Dig it!
THANK YOU FOR SIMPLIFYING THIS BRO!
Lovely tutorial, takes the controler DJ straight to the CDJ
I like how you go into the details very deeply, like the meaning of the LED flash-rate. In fact, many DJs don't know about their meaning exactly.
Cool to see that christian still reads comments from his older videos lol
It's still wild to me that "the art of DJ'ing" now assumes track analysis and that all the equipment has embedded support for beat quantization. Looking forward to your rekordbox deep-dive; curious whether it has good support for tracks in which the tempo changes, and how the 'nudging' feature on the CDJ hardware interacts with those situations.
it doesn't indeed!
Is there a way to adjust the search/fast forward buttons so that they skip 8bars or 32 beats at a time?
This is pure gold.
Good catch!
Man, you're really awesome! You got a like and a sub
hey that was really cool back there, so i bought one of those pioneer cdj 2000 and i don't know how to create effect like echo.......and i would like for you to show me how do you mix songs in the next video thank you have a good day
Wow this really helped me. Thank you !
thanks :)
Excellent!! Loved it
Hey man, great tutorial!
Just one quick question.
Can i somehow possibly get all the cue points from vitrual dj (computer software) into a USB and then transfer them onto the CDJ?
no
Nice video, it works!
Hey, just a question, I saw that before you make a loop your have to press play, is it possible to activeted the loop on the four first beat before you hit play ? My question is for all the cdj from cdj 2000
Thank you
Thanks for uploading.
I just got TribeXR DJ simulator on Steam for virtual reality.
hello christian I got a question that is killing me maybe you can help me is the regular cdj 2000 almost the same as the nexus or the difference is huge because I'm trying to figure out get a pair of the cdj 2000 used or go for the xdj 1000 used or new?

Thank you for this. Learning to play on CDJ's really soon, and this video is a great start.
yes thank u sir for ur demo my sister son is dj and he is also playing nexus
Hi Mate!
If is playingback and I want to select my cue point without affecting the playback, how can I do that? What is the difference marking a cue point and a hot cue?
Thanks for the tutorial, it is really good!
Useful tutorial, thanks!
Hi. Is the CDJ-2000 the only model which allows for saving cue points to memory, or can other models do that also?
Hello. Cool video for some CDJ basics. Thanks.

hi man. i wonder if you have a vid tutorial on how to use a song as a Base to mix other songs over it.
thnks really thnks i have a event in 7 hrs
marco antonio garcia peña hahahahha wtf
Sometimes you are just a digital DJ and the scary CDJ will be your gear tonight hahahahahaha
@@gomesdiogo I am a digital dj now, used to to vinyl. But it's true. Ya gotta know how to use this stuff.
lol mines in 10 hrs ahah
Mines in 1 day fuck
If you are playing with usb stick will the Cdj analyze the track so you can get a clean cut loop
great vid brother
Is the Button that allow you to switch cue to cue work with the Hotcue too ????
Are the cdjs set to quantize loops so it syncs flush or is there a setting you have to change?

Andy Lojik ah okay, thank you so much! :D
Nice tutorial!
Nice video!
So loop in to start loop, loop out to finish how long you want the loop to be, and then the exit button on the right to take the loop off
does the tracks in usb neet to be wav or mp3 ??
great turorials!
Thank you. Appreciate your expertise.
This helped a lot thank you
how do i set the loop even b4 i press play on the song, while its paused on headphones. do i just go to that spot click in? and will it set? how do i extend it while paused also?? i wana mix at open deck nights without having to bring my controller. so i dont currently own cdjs
*Just imagine, people were doing this back in the 80s and 90s with vinyl records without UA-cam OUCH*
So no visual beatmatching???
is it possible to memorize the cue points in the memory stick, the one I got all my songs on, or do you need a memory card for each cdj?
Looserdoll Cue points automatically save to the rekordbox database on your flash drive. You only need one as long as the other decks are connected via LAN
Please make a full tutorial on how to..like know the basics and etc.
Ten per track plus three hot cues
thank you very much.
great video!!
What Mixer is this obvious pioneer as noticed some fx, near the right deck if these are fx's many thanks
djm-900 nexus
I have the cdj 2000 not nexus theres anyway to have a bigger waveform?

please, could you tell me how to start a track directly with a loop ? what if i want it looped from the very first beat
I know this was made a long time ago... but your cdjs don’t have a ‘sync’ button... how would you do this on these ones??
could you tell me which dj player must be buy for beginner ?
Great tut!
HOMMIE SLAPPING ON THOSE BUTTONS SO HARD
Okay so i have come from Traktor and got a residency where i can't bring in my controller. I love being able to set a 32 beat loop and being able to move the whole loop to a different part of a track. example: I start the loop in a drop of 32 beats. then i like to move that 32 beat loop to the previous 32 beat loop (the build up) so that i can flawlessly mash up a new song with the drop of another. Can you have the freedom on CDJs to skip around in the track with your loop? sorry i don't know how to clearly express what i am asking. Did that make sense?
+Table 18 unfortunately no, what you are asking is not a feature on cdjs yet. There is very limited beat/loop jump feature on some cdjs/xdjs
Super helpful thank you!
Unfortunately this is not possible, only the hot cues can do this live without playback interruption. Kind of a bummer!
do you need blank cd to use the cdj or can you load tracks straight from the mac into the cdj???
THE SONG THAT U PLAYED IN 7:57 WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG?
Yves V & Felguk - WOW (Original Mix)
quick question. How do you move your loop forward or backwards with this pioneer?
Not possible with this model or any cdj right now. Have to make a new loop or call one that is already stored
@@christianjackson that sucks
Is it Possible to set the in point of a loop before the track is playing ? Cheers.
Yep, move the track to that point in the song, hit the loop in button. It also functions as the set cue point button. Then you can store that cue with the memory button.
Christian Jackson beauty thanks
hello christian, i have an issue with random looping when i scratch and/or move eh platter to cue up. also, the sound cuts off unless i hold the needle search. do u have any ideas on how i can fix this?
haven't heard of that one before...
ok, thanx, i will be on the phone with pioneer on monday n i will post the answer just in case someone else runs into this problem. thanx again.
hey christian, thanx for getting back to me - i found out that i had to reset the software. i use a controller on smaller jobs & when i changed back to my cdi 2000s, it didn't configure right. once, i reset the software, it was business as usual. thanx again for actually responding.
Thanks for replying to your post with the answer so future djs can look!
Thanks that was very helpful
You are the best tanks for your videos 5 stars
Felguk & Yves V - WOW. one of the biggest tracks of 2012.
How come I cannot jump to a que point using the left right que call button??
great tutorial
If I'm playing a song on 1 deck and while playing I need to loop a 2 beat count and bring in another song. I have this 2 beat count saved as a memory cue.
But how do I make sure the cdj plays this 2 beat loop when it reaches the memory cue?
Friendly Akt You can only do that on nexus players with an Active loop. This is a loop that turns red in rekordbox and will activate as soon as the deck reaches that point.

Hey, I just checked the price for the CDJ on Amazon & the price you saw $549 is for the CDJ1000.
Good luck..
