I,lived and worked in Dubai, almost all parts of the UAE. Yes;Its quite true that Dubai metro is great, and the best part is that you get excellent views to see the the city by the train.I wish if a similar trains could also come and run in at least in the metros of India,to get that international feel and experience.Kudos" to the rulers of UAE,specially dubai that there planning to execute and run such projects for their city is excellent.

they say their behaviour is from the past and this is correct. Also correct is that their architecture-life is the future. That's a huge difference.

compared to other Emirates dubai actually does not rely so much on oil reserves. Hence the focus on tourism and trying to making it the number one destination for shoppers, luxury and the travellers with wealth. I've been there three times and worked there twice. Most of the workforce is already imported...it actually makes for a respectful and multicultural place to work, kiwis, brits, malaysians and nationals all working side by side.

Main concern was the heat in Dubai, that is why they ordered the Platform Doors to keep cool air on passenger side. Vancouver does not have extreme temperatures and platform Doors are not required. Besides, they are quite expensive for taxpayers. All 3 Vancouver driverless lines are driven be the same automatic system from Thales.

the metro is not segregated. women and men can travel in mixed carriages.
For religious women there ARE separate carriages on every train for them to travel on. but it is their choice. they aren't forced to travel separately.

It's not a train - its electric metro (more like our underground) and has many many stops due to a concentrated population in a small dense area. so impossible to 'get up to speed'. I agree though - the chinese and japenese trains go like a bullet pun intended :-)

In certain US cities the windows would either be smashed to smithereens or etched beyond visibility in less than 2 weeks.
And then there would be people who would try to figure out a way to smash the doors off the track so that the doors get stuck closed.

New York City is averaging 1 person hit by a train every week. Many them are suicides but there have been homicides, accidental falls etc. But with 468 stations(that's just subway stations, many more if you count commuter trains, Amtrak etc.) the cost to enclose them all in glass would be enormous. Won't be done.

I never understand in 21st century after seeing the problems Las Vegas has why anyone would build a city on the desert, its a ridiculously beautiful city with ridiculous engineering, but also extremely unnecessary. Just like a German car the more parts it has the more likely it breaks. Just read about the complexity of building a skyscraper on a sand foundation or how much water is pumped into the skyscrapers to just cool down the metal frames, or how the buildings must be washed after sandstorm
