I'm always impressed by your fortitude and determination. It's must've been very discouraging to find youre in the wrong spot after such tough going. But you guys never got down, adapted and made the best of the situation. Impressive as always. Thanks for bringing us along.

I have question. Do you always do these walkabouts just on snowshoes? Here in Finland, we usually use long skiis (called metsäsuksi) for travel and snowshoes on camps. Edit: Had to correct my crappy English... 😑
Love your videos Jim - when you’re out there having a gong show day and trying to figure out if it’s worth the crap remember you are making our entertainment great and you have lots of people rooting for you !!!🎉
I gotta say man, I’ve watched every adventure of yours from the super short clips of white water with you and Ted, to the Quebec trips with Tori, to Labrador via the de pas/George rivers and Adlatok River rivers, along with the arctic watershed, Complete “Beyond the height of Land” series, the Lake Superior journey where you injured your hand, both Yukon trips, your overland adventure and this… You are hands down my favourite Canadian adventurer, and I’d even go so far as saying Canadian hero, and role model… Watching your adventures has inspired me to get out into the wilderness myself, and I even have some trips planned this summer because of you, even if it’s in an old as dirst Coleman canoe on some mild 1-2 day trips, without even a 6th of the benefits of a Nova craft canoe… I’m just happy to get on any body of water and start paddling with what I have because of you… You are a true Canadian role model, and Canada needs more men and role models like you.
Seeing you walk behind eachother in the snow, reminds of the documentaires I saw when I was younger about the Pole expeditions😄 Nice watching you again👍
Great episode Jim! That looked intense traveling through the bush with all the dead fall and snow banks. You should really bring Pam cooking spray and keep it in your inside jacket pocket, spray the bottom of your sleds with it and you will glide through the snow and slush. We used to spray it on our sleds when we were younger when we went downhill tobogganing and I tell you the sleds went way faster down the hills and never had any problems in warmer sticky snow or slush freezing to the bottom. Just apply every so often and you are good to go! Thanks for sharing this series Jim.
Yup, I was telling my neighbor the other day I'm not sure if I've ever seen a winter this mild in Northeastern Ontario. But we have a bit of ice on the lakes now compared to February but I think once it starts going it'll go quick. Awesome series so far. Can't wait for the next one.
Slow and steady does not win the race. Fast and steady wins the race. Steady will get you there. Slow and steady means you're going to be a couple laps back. Just so you know, I've studied it. Nice to see North carrying on. Must be a little frustrating for him. I bet the tent and stove weigh a ton.
Haha, you’re welcome. It’s easier with the gong show trips as they can make a good story. The thing that was really against us was the warm weather, rain and the warm winter which meant bad ice conditions.
Hello Jim thank you for sharing incredible video, the North is such a good dog 🐕 I love watching your videos I hope you have better time on this Journey
What a trip, I wanted to do similar as I walked the Mattawa last year, such a neat perspective to be walking the river and "portaging" with snowshoes - This year it was hard to plan as the winter in North Bay was shit! When I worked in the woods for 15 years BC/Ontario we called snowshoes MISERY SLIPPERS!!!!! :) Also, I used to Dog Sled, you should look at getting a bungee rigged up for his line - its better for pulling on their backs :) They are expensive, but I made one for my pull sled with an old black bungee and carabiners! My huskies at -25 refused the tents, like run away at bedtime if I tried to get them in.... they would curl up outside on a map - in the morning I would go out, and they looked comfy, and they were so warm!!! Thanks for sharing your trip!!!!!!!!
Great good clip off your winter tracking , l come across your channel Jim about 2 weeks ago so l joined your channel we watched so many off you and brothers trip and you family 👪 trips ok keep they coming we love it when the boys are with you there so cute , North is a very good 🐕 pulling the 🛷
Wow that was tough going with the slush and thru the woods. North is such a trooper pulling his sled. Weird weather all over the world. I'm watching video of a guy in California who has 5 feet of snow on his roof, The Sierra Nevada's have 600+" of snow. Will watch for episode 3. Take care.
As exciting as this adventure is, it seems that dragging these sleds sure give you a work out. I bet you can't tell who snores the loudest. hehe I like the tent camp stoves. Looking forward to next week.
YEAH Moose Stew plus it makes HOT WATER for Coffee or tea to drink !!! This is something JIMBO !!! Keep on trying !!! Let North lick the plates off it will give to him extra stuff in him to eat !!! As your Brother would say ICE CREAM BARS Heather was great to have those ice cream bars for a treat for them !!!
You could of used some Iowa NW winds at 50 mph with a wind chill at -30° overnight that would have frozen things up. So enjoying this adventure from the armchair
Interesting trip. Do you plot your trip on your GPS before you start? When you finish your trips do you publish your trips? You now probably have enough routes that you could do a tour book of routs. In the future when you have time could you do a talk on how you dehydrate food. We find the flavour disappears after you rehydrate it. The bought package ones have more flavour.
Thanks for filming all those awesome adventures. Why are you not using skis for those long treks, I switched 7 years ago and would never go back to snowshoes. I mostly do alpine ski touring with backpacks and no sleds. all the best
Thanks very much! I’m not good at skiing. Nate is but he took them off after getting stuck in the slush when we had to hail his toboggan out on a rope.
I'm a fan of skis too, but for Ontario at least snowshoes is the only way to haul a load. Save the skis for daytrips from a base camp and they're unbeatable, a ton of fun that almost no one knows about. Temagami and Algonquin have got hundreds of feet of elevation, you can find cool drops all over the place on a daytrip.
I moved to Nova Scotia last year and I think I created the perfect boot system for this soggy winter. I bought size 12 6mm neoprene rubber boots (Muck knockoff) and lined them with size 10 wool winter boot liners. I can just squeeze my Vidda Pro pants over top of the boots and buckle them down around the ankles to keep snow and slush out. I wear 2 pairs of tight midweight merino socks inside so my feet don't have too much room when I'm snowshoeing to prevent blisters. My shoe size is 9.5 for sizing reference. Try it some time if you want I'd highly recommend it!
Sounds pretty good. The issue what that is that the Buck boots have insolation that you can’t remove so if it gets wet it’s very hard to dry. I’ve used the Baffin isolated rubbers a lot but they’re a little too clunky for this much walking. Great in slush though .
Greetings from Finland. Thanks for all the great videos Jim! But we're just wondering why not to use skis instead of snow shoes? They would work so much better in that kind of snow conditions (like for avoiding the slush). ☺
My friend who you see stuck in the slush was wearing skis. We had to haul he’s toboggan out. He switched back to snowshoes for the rest of the trip. So, ya the steep hills in the bush and the slush on the lakes is why.
This one looked rough on you men but nothing you all could do. Just keep fighting through it. How many calories does a hardworking sled dog need a day? Impressive young dog. Great video
Thanks a lot. I dint know exactly but I guess a true sled dog would be running all day. For north, I just feed him as much as he’ll eat of high energy food.
Prior to this expedition, only wolverines were known to traverse 7.5 miles a day in these kinds of conditions, just watching it made me have to get up and throw on my thick bath robe !!!
You definitely need to invest in a freeze dryer, it's so worth it to lighten your loads considerably. Also it's unseasonably cold and wet here in California, torrential downpouring and record setting snow levels here
@@JimBairdAdventurer that's great! The things I love about my freeze dryer is I can freeze dry things like soups and casseroles and it reconstitutes exactly like it was when I made it and it literally takes minutes as opposed to my dehydrated food that took a little while and some things like hamburger and some veggies still stayed somewhat crunchy. I love mine! That's crazy about the weather differences between here and there, yes my cousin lives in Hollywood and the people who live in hills around it are snowed in and panicking because they don't have the resources or the no how to deal with it, most don't even know how to drive in it
Looked like a horrible treck through the slush deffinantly not good for the morel. nor that area through the bush takes a great deal of preserverence , Must have been disapointing not to end up where you wanted. Then add the filming ,terrain and open water to it all it OMG I felt for you guy,s!. .
I'm always impressed by your fortitude and determination. It's must've been very discouraging to find youre in the wrong spot after such tough going. But you guys never got down, adapted and made the best of the situation. Impressive as always. Thanks for bringing us along.
Yeaaaaaaaaaah! I’ve been waiting for my show!…
Hope you like it!
Jim your show was awesome!
he's a good dog :)

Thanks a lot
Woo hoo! It's Thursday upload!!! I just walked four miles and am now watching another episode!

He really is!
Yeeeeaaahh excited for ep 2 loved the first one
Nice! Ya, it’s pretty good.
Nice struggle🙂Reminds me of the days I was as a recon soldier here in Norway.
I enjoy how you tell the story. Even if the weather didn't co-operate!
Thanks a lot, ya at least it made for a good story I guess. Thanks for tuning in.
Never the wrong way, just another way... Great perseverance!
Indeed haha
Awesome y’all thanks!✅✅✅💯💯💯🤩🤩🤩

Nothing worse than warm temperatures in winter. Great content as always,Thank You!
This is true, thanks for tuning in
Tough slog. Thanks for the adventure.
yes for me it is lol
You guys are sure getting a workout this trip . Tough going in such deep soft snow . Good luck and stay safe and healthy
Love your videos Jim - when you’re out there having a gong show day and trying to figure out if it’s worth the crap remember you are making our entertainment great and you have lots of people rooting for you !!!🎉
Fav part was you saying something to the effect “pretend like we are having fun” I laughed out loud. Great footage of the teamwork put into action!!
How fustrating that must have been for sure!!!!
It was but we got through it
Just awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😮😊😊😊
Thanks a lot!
Excellent video Jim. Mother Nature is always the Boss. Great teamwork.
I got all worn out watching. Thumbs up.

True enough
Good evening from Syracuse NY USA brother and everyone else thank you for sharing your adventures
You’re very welcome!
Outstanding adventures
You guys are hardcore 🤟🏼
Thanks ya this was a pretty hardcore trip.

You are working for it again! Crazy conditions.
Indeed, thanks a lot snd it doesn’t really get easier
cool :)
Valiant !! Guy's & !! & Bravo' to North''s efforts Too !!

That was insane. Only Xander could make it up a tree that far🤪. Amazing hard team work.😘
Haha, ya that was impressive. Max and I had to lift him up and give him a boost to the branches
Hi from Newfoundland great video Jim buddy as always take care my friend
I would have liked to see lost lakes try this one
Exciting video , please be careful out on the lakes , it has been such a warm winter here in Nova Scotia , a lot of the lakes are barely frozen over !
What a good group of dudes for an adventure! Hopefully you guys will do more collabs in the future
Damn Jim is still hanging in with the young guys very impressive
Great video showing how hard it is going through all that slush. Enjoy watching your videos. They’re the real deal. North looks like he’s having fun.
