Of the 5 or 6 crazy fast superstars in the league, MacKinnon is the only one that exponentially speeds up with puck possession. Literally the longer he's got the puck, the faster everything he's doing gets. Nobody else in the league is like that.

I remember his face at the start of the playoffs. What was in it? Absolute determination to win it all. And it made you believe.
McDavid has the exceptional stick handling and skating, no question. MacKinnon just impresses me somewhat more with his will, his mindset and that intangible power that goes beyond talent and the experience of having a puck around since childhood. As an athlete, he is on another level. What a player.
MacKinnon has "the speed of a cheetah and the strength of a bull. He has all the qualities. He can sneak by on his power. He can sneak by on speed. He can do whatever he wants.
He also has a partner of choice during the off-season since Nathan MacKinnon is used to working out with Sidney Crosby,
All of his teammates, including his captain, Gabriel Landeskog, consider MacKinnon to be one of the hardest workers in the league and he is always looking to be the best at what he does.
He is as good offensively as he is defensively, unlike others, he has a lightning shot, he can shoot from very far.

When Mackinnon is on his game, especially in the playoffs, he is on an entirely different level. A born competitor, through-and-through. He's a blast to watch.
The fact this guy has never won a Hart is an anomaly. Hopefully he gets a full season to paint his masterpiece this season. Injuries have prevented him from being there at the finish with the guys who end up winning it.
Nathan has to compete for the Heart with the likes of McDavid, Draisaitl, Kutcherov and Mathews Similar to Steve Yzerman in the 80s had Gretzky and Mario to compete with.
Nathan MacKinnon has been top 3 to top 5 in the league for the majority of his career.
Yeah the one year he was very clearly the best player in the league, they gave it to Taylor Hall for literally no reason. Avs are just too hated I guess, hopefully that cup woke them up
@@JSauer21 He should've won it both times in 2018 and 2020. They never pay attention to advanced stats, the section of statistics that Mack absolutely dominates in because they only care about points.

As an Oilers fan, that MacKinnon playoff goal against St.Louis was the best I’ve ever seen, better then any of McDavid’s beauties so far in his career.

@@jacobneufeld2735 yeah the 1v4 against Rangers and 1v3 against the Jets were amazing don’t get me wrong, and I’d say that they’re better in terms of skill, but MacKinnon’s goal is #1 (imo) becuz of the situation it was scored in. Playoffs, late in the third, tie game. If St. Louis hadn’t scored after and the Avs hadn’t choked in OT, that would’ve been a series clinching goal. But yeah in terms of raw skill, Mcdaddy’s goals are better.
@@tamman994 ahh fair enough, I usually don't consider context for ranking goals like this. It pissed me off beyond belief that the avs choked that, mack came in clutch and they threw it away.

MacK's first 4 seasons were developmental still. He was a 50-60 point guy, and then in 2018 he broke out. Since then, he's been slightly under McDavid in PPG during the season, and slightly over him in the playoffs.

McDavid had 2 really good series that pumped his stats, then his production got cut in half against CO when he got swept.
The last few years MacK has been consistently better than McDavid in the playoffs, 2 good series for McDavid doesn't change that.

5:30 is what makes Colorado so dangerous. When you have a defenseman who can step up as a forward like that an catch the defense flat-footed, it's usually game over. Makar is Mackinnon on defense.
