I am ALL about cozy! When you have winter for six months of the year, you have to be! It's coming too, were in for some real snow next week I think! Thank you for watching!
OH! And the Strathmore Mixed Media (500 Series, which is their best of the best and what you have!) is another of my favorite mixed media books of all time! The only reason I'll get the Stillman and Berns more is cuz the larger size isn't readily available in the Strathmore. But yeah, it's friggin amazing isn't it?!?!
I love my Stillman and Bern mixed media sketchbooks. But for everything BUT watercolor! For watercolor I will now never use anything other than the Etchr Perfect Sketchbook. 100% cotton, perfectly sized (feels like Arches and Baohong Professional) and you can get it in a nice big size (which is my preference). I want to get a Baohong watercolor sketchbook, but every time I remember to buy one theyre sold out!
All that snow - and it only seems like yesterday that you were showing us the first green shoots in your garden as Spring started to arrive. How time flies! I found the graphite/coloured pencil section very interesting and hope you'll do a few more pieces using this technique from time to time. Thanks for continuing to put together these videos for us all, despite all the issues you're working through at the moment - it's much appreciated. Kind regards, Brian.
It feels like it was just spring here to me too! I am not ready for winter yet. Every year it gets a little harder to get through them. We live in a snow belt and it can be intense! I really like the colored pencil and graphite too and I definitely plan to do more! Thank four your continued support it means the world to me!
We barely got the first frost this week, and you already have snow. For my painting and filming setup I use Neewer light panels. You can choose brightness and light temperature.
Just got your monthly update letter in my inbox. I'll look forward to it each month! Enjoyed your video too! I can't believe all that snow! It's been a heat wave where I live in Wisconsin!
I'm so glad you like it! The firsy snow is so exciting!it melted but I'm hearing we might be in for some serious snow in a week or so! Thanks for watching!
Hi Amy! So nice to see your first snow! I'm not ready for winter yet, but the first snow is always magical for me. The Paul Rubens tin is so beautiful! And that book, wow! Glad you had fun this week trying out new products. Thanks for sharing 😊
Love the little mouse 😊 it is sometimes hard to decide whether to use colored pencils or not 😂 I was sure the last time I painted that I will do quite strong details with colored pencils afterwards, but then decided in the end the watercolor was enough. I just used Strathmore Bristol paper for watercolor painting (with sketch underneath), I guess it was fine, but the surface did not like lifting, although I tried to be very careful. So I think I will stick to Arches hot pressed which is very smooth, so should be no issue to draw a strong sketch also in advance and then paint. (I have usually done just line art or no drawing at all, but am also exploring doing a drawing first). Nice video, the surroundings remind me a lot of Finland 😊 we also got snow here the same day, not as much though.
I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos! Thank you so much for telling me! It's comments like yours that make this worthwhile. It was really hard to get the video done this week amd in the end, it went up over two hours late because there were issues with the rendering and up loading and I cut it to close. So to know there is someone out there who really likes my videos, it makes all the hard work worth it. Thank you for watching!
Wow, from summer to winter in just a matter of days! Beautiful snow! It's just now starting to get gold here but nothing cold enough to have snow. It's still in the low 50s during the day. Just a lot of rain...gotta love Seattle weather....sigh.... Fun art supplies! Glad you found a book that works for you. Isn't that such a struggle to do? Especially for someone who works in various mediums. Gouache seems to be the most forgiving of all the various papers. Ink and watercolor? The total opposite! Well, I guess acrylics are really forgiving as well. I am playing with an out-of-date Moleskine planner that I picked up for a couple of dollars that has really thin pages. I love throwing a bunch of acrylic paint around in it, along with collage to beef up the pages. It's like a big "SO THERE all you expensive art journals!" haha
I agree! It's a struggle to find the right journal for all of our mediums, and it's a fun challenge, although expensive! Lol! I've been loving usi g gouache on bristol paper, which I thought would be a complete no-no bit surprisingly it works! I think you are right about paper for gouache being forgiving! I started working on filming the December video for patreon yesterday and were going to be painting on wood! ;) i think it's going to be a ton of fun! I hope you are doing well, Tracie! And thank for all the support amd encouragement you sent me from the very start of the journey! It means more than you can know!🧡
Isn't it such a good book?? I would have loved to have it as a kid. We had the audubon field guide to birds and I think that's where my love of painting birds came from! Thanks for watching!
@@lark6676it funny you say that about your mother still having it. You’ve made new change my mind, I think. I have 4 adult children and have finally started sorting out the things left from after they moved out. It’s taken me a few years, lol. There’s a bunch of books, a bit like that one but not exactly that one, that I’d decided I didn’t need to keep. Now though, I’m thinking even if they working want to use them maybe I can, for trying to lessen to draw and paint all the birds and animals etc. I wonder, if you were me, would you keep them or ditch them?
@@angelabay-jespersen6205 My mother probably has no idea I have such good memories of that book. I'd keep the ones that would be good for drawing from and I would ask your grown up kids if they have an attachment to any of the books you are thinking of getting rid of. You might be very surprised that they want them for themselves because they have good memories of looking at them as kids.

Hi Amy!! Beautiful mouse 🐭 painting 😍😍😍 really enjoy your videos! And I’m absolutely enjoy the little snow ❄️ session 😂😂😂😂😂I‘m from the more northern part of Germany and we don’t have that much snow that often 😂
Well there will be a lot more coming, I'm sure! We normally get an average of 180 inches which is roughly 15 feet. Somewhere around 4 meters, I think. Although last year was super super weird and we hardly had any which has never happened in all of years I've lived here! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos! Thank you for letting me know! And for watching and commenting!
Oh wow, that bird book, that has been a lot of work! My mum was 9 when it was made 😁Can you guess the medium they have been painted? Hope you enjoyed your Halloween, my son made us all a lovely pumpkin pie first time ever, we live in Europe/ Asia so not so common around here, but it was delicious! Love those little critters and plants you made and I did guess your favourite sketchbook correctly 🧐Enjoy it!
It's a really interesting book! I'm loving it! We had a nice quiet snowy Halloween! I love pumpkin anything! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave a comment!
I am so jealous that you already had snow!!! Although I am still loving our autumn season here in Pennsylvania! Thank you for the video Amy and your review of the Paul Ruben's paints!! I just ordered them since I love their products very much...plus you can never have too many sets of paints as far as I am concerned!!! ...Anyway have a great week and stay safe!..Many blessings, Rus from Bucks County Pennsylvania 💙🖌🎨🤓
I wouldn’t mind having cold weather-here in Virginia the summers are hot, humid, and last forever! Because I have MS, heat intolerance is a constant struggle. Enjoyed your sketching page immensely. Btw where do you live? I didn’t hear any weather reports of snow in America.

Oh your video of the drive/walk in the snow is sooo lovely, and your house is in such a good place, and you have a veranda, I’ve always wanted to live in a house with one. For some reason British don’t build veranda’s, probably to do with it hoiking the price’s up and wanting to cram in as many tiny house’s on the land by greedy builders no doubt! 🤨Now …..to watch the rest of your film.😘

Hi Amy. Glad to see you continuing to make art and trying some new things. I like the Stillman & Birn sketchbooks too. I have been working on decluttering my home but maybe should sit down and paint a little today. ( or go outside but it's a little chilly and i am a wimp with the cold). Lol
I sid a closet purge this week! I should have been working but I just needed a break! Sometimes it's good to clear out the unnecessary things! Thanks for watching!
Yes! The best Stillman and Birn sketchbooks for working with line and wash are the Zeta series, I think. The Zeta series has 270gsm, white smooth paper and it takes gouache and a light to medium watercolour wash really well. If you would rather cold press, then the Beta series is great and if you would rather ivory paper they have the Delta series. That said, the Strathmore mixed media sketchbooks are wonderful!
Well then they need to change their packaging! Lol! It says right on the front "mixed media-multi-techniques" and then below it "dry media, wash, and ink" which is why I bought it. I wish I could reply with a picture! Oh well. You live and you learn I guess! Thanks for watching!
@@winterwoodsstudio For sure. They have a good system; however, I agree that their Alpha, Gamma, Epsilon and Nova really don’t cope well with anything “wet” other than ink. These are 150gsm and say “light wash” and the 270gsm ones say “wet media”. The 150gsm sketchbooks can take a bit of straight acryla gouache. Though, to be honest, even printer paper can take a bit of undiluted acryla gouache! ❤️🧡🩷💚🩵💜💛
