Will forever be gutted to not have seen BCNR live. AFUT and especially The Place Where He Inserted The Blade changed the world, and my life with it. Will hold this performance and the record very dearly close to my heart. Hope Isaac feels better soon. The world needs a band like this.
As someone who has seen BCNR live with the new set-up, where they've been playing completely new, unreleased material, I can assure you that the band is in good hands. I'm going to miss Isaac so much as well - but the live shows have all but confirmed that their next album will hit the heights they have already hit, perhaps even surpass them. Keep the faith bud x

The band mingles with peers of extraordinary talents. I believe some of them are roommates with black midi, and there are bands like Squid from that London scene too. The creative energy in that location must be electric. So excited for the future of music.
It seems a lot of people here think this is a live version of AFUT. I think it’s just what they included in the deluxe vinyl box set of AFUT, which is basically all of For the First Time live, and then two extra songs from AFUT live.

i cannot express how much this band means to me. I am very touched. This will be THEE band of my youth. they have already been my companion for the first few months of my 18th year on this earth. Im just lost for words.
Actually same, it’s definitely my album of the year and currently it’s my number 3 of all time, behind OK Computer and Dark Side of the Moon. It might just be recency bias but I’ve stuck by it for almost half a year now and at the very least I don’t see this going below a top 10.
Ok I rarely comment on youtubes, but omg. Instrumental is like commentary on life as a young 20 something. It evokes the chaos of being young and not knowing what you're doing or where you're going; that sax line and everything else aligning is like the chaos that we all experienced as 20 year olds, when we finally realize we're all going through turmoil, and can finally start to relate to each other. Not to be a nerd, but Isaac's vocal delivery is Oscar worthy (I know its not a music award), he delivers every line so perfectly, every line convinces me of his experience so 100%. I love that he just started writing these lyrics to the shock of his bandmates, completing this musical evolution they've experienced. An amazingly talented group of musicians and creatives, going beyond rock, jazz, classical, and drawing on even more genres and sub-genres, so gracefully as to not create anything that could be called derivative, only visionary. At times cataclysmic destruction, at times as soft as a whisper between lovers, emotionally devastating the whole way through. AFUT came exactly when we needed a substitute for the feelings that Arcade Fire gave us. BCNR has come along at the perfect time for us millennials; they give us that youthful angst mixed with the hope and optimism of your early 20s, and that emotional connection that we got from Arcade Fire's early work. Aside from the performance, Isaac's lyrics, his delivery, even just his energy, is so perfect for this project. How many bands do you know that consist of amazing musicians, and lack an interesting frontman, pairing highly technical instrumentals with tik tok "influencers" who can't even identify a C major. I'd never want to sound like that old jaded cynic, but you can pretty much quantify the fact that in the 60s and 70s, and even the 80s and 90s, popular music was generally better than it is now. I've got to of course give credits to some of the amazingly talented musicians of history: Led Zepplin (say what you want about them stealing music from other artists, they're still extremely skilled musicians), the Beatles, and such queens as Donna Summers, Ann and Nancy Wilson, Cher, Tina Turner, Alicia Keys, Rhianna, and more. Don't get me wrong, I love autotune, I use it on my own music everywhere, it just stinks that now anyone can become a famous "singer" just by being hot and having an "interesting" personality, which usually just means they're down to show off their body. In my humblest of opinions, these guys and the War On Drugs are making some of the most imortant music right now (not excursively of course, I know for a fact there are so many groups making amazing art).
