    Now I normally don't do this sort of thing, but I got into a little streetlight battle with one of these on a wide, 6 lane 45 mph road in Fort Lauderdale. I was in my old '85 Porsche 928S2 5 speed and it was a good race [we only took it to about 60 mph]. That 928 would run high 13 second quarters @ 105, so these trucks are quick.

    My grandfather had one of these when I was 19 in 2003. Man it was so bad ass! He ended up selling it around 2010 or so with 30k miles for about $20k. I seriously wish they had kept it in the family. I got to take it around the block only when I installed a K&N air filter for them good for about 15HP increase over the stock 360HP. I got to ride in it with him back in the day on the highway and he opened it up! Man when that supercharger kicks in it really throws you back in your seat! The sound it made was amazing when it was spinning up.

    @LA_Commander 2 роки тому +5

    I absolutely LOVE the Ford 4.6/5.4 modular V8s that are the 2-valve version. They are some of the most durable and reliable motors out there. Police cars, taxi cabs, and limousines have often gone half a million miles on these engines.

    • @forresttaylor2757
      @forresttaylor2757 2 роки тому +4

      Agreed. They did the 5.4 dirty by putting that three valve garbage on it.

    • @LA_Commander
      @LA_Commander 2 роки тому

      @@forresttaylor2757 well Ford was being forced to compete with Dodge and Chevy which were putting out higher horsepower engines (like Hemi). Many buyers just look at the raw horsepower numbers without any thought to where that power is on the PowerBar, how much actual usable torque is down at 2,000 RPM, or how durable an engine is. This is why Dodge sold so many Hemis even though we all now know they just don't last. So Ford had to up their game and they already had the 4 valve 4.6 for the Cobra with well over 300 horsepower so by having the base engine upgraded from 2 valves to 3, that really increased airflow and bumped up the HP numbers for both engines. Interestingly, I haven't heard of any major issues with the 3 valve 4.6 motor used on the Mustang or Explorer compared to the numerous issues with the 3 valve 5.4 motors used on the trucks.

Still a very fast and powerful truck even on today's standards, at least as far as I'm concerned. This particular truck has been very well cared for, definitely worth a premium compared to cheaper, more used SVT Lightening trucks, if you can find one. Good for the owner for keeping on maintenance, and actually driving and enjoying the truck.

      In 99-2000 that's the one everyone wanted. These lightings, when I was in college for the first time, we're a garbage can with a supercharger. We would only see old guys driving them around all the time because they were over priced for what they were.

    wasnt the rear paassenger, either wheel cylinder or differential seal leaking? that was a lot of moisture around that hub the other side didnt have.

    Pickups is one of those American things the rest of us can't get our heads around, has less cargo volume than a van and your cargo is a lot less secure, and buying a pickup to occasionally haul stuff is a lot less convenient than having a towing hitch on a car and a trailer you can opt to use or not, or rent a trailer if you don't need often.

      CHOICE. Pickups sit up higher, and yea I know SUV’s do too, but a pickup truck is something I always wanted and now have for over 20 years. I have moved quite a few people with my trucks; pack their stuff nice and neatly, secured with straps or bungee cords. Getting big items from a big box store is a BREEZE; like a very large TV. I used to get wood from a friend’s brother’s property he was clearing out. I gotta move coming up this weekend as a matter of fact. No, pickup trucks aren’t for everyone, but for my needs, it suits me well.

    We had the 5.4 in Australia but with a 4valve set up. As long as you kept oil and fluid up to it it was a good motor, timing chain tensioners were a bit weak though

    Lol.
    I do agree with you on the lightning, this has been the best looking truck I've seen. There was only one in my town in Colombia, 🇨🇴. The sound it made. Brings me back to my childhood.

    This cannot be a car ever to be owned by Hoovie. It's condition is too nice.
    A dry ice cleanup under the car would restore it at a reasonable price. Clean up the corrosion and dirt.

    My dad owned #225 2002 Lightning it also was that dealerships first SVT sale of 2002, yeah for what it was it was a vehicle you either knew what it was or seen tail lights. and with just a tune/n ECU chip, boost pulley upper or lower, and an intake you was in the 12's. He owned it from Jan 1st 2002 clear up to 2014 when he traded it in on a 2012 Boss 302 Mustang one of 252 made in Yellow Blaze of that year.
    Biggest weak point is Ford didn't use forge connecting rods but the same press powder type that the regular F and E 150's used. And a lot of Lightnings had holed blocks due to that, it also was the reason the 03-04 Cobras got the forged rods right from the get go due to this.
