Professor Silvester Henderson & the Palma Ceia Baptist Church Combined Choirs & the Department of Music:
Recently honored with the Northern California "Gospel Crystal Award", under Professor Silvester Henderson, the Palma Ceia Baptist Church Department of Music has developed a noted reputation for having one of the most organized and productive church music departments in the nations. During his early leadership, one of Professor Henderson’s most endeared accomplishment was to administrate, organize and lead the entire department to record their “First Album/CD”, which was entitled, “One Body In Christ”. Over one hundred thousand copies of this highly successful musical creation were sold and have been shared with listeners as far as Japan. In the late 1990’s Silvester Henderson organized the first “Department Tour”, of the Palma Ceia 300 plus member “Mass Choir”. The choir toured Southern California and performed for various churches .
The Palma Ceia Baptist Church Combined Choir has been nominated by the “Gospel Academy Awards” as being the “Best Church Choir”, in the Bay Area. This prestigious Academy honored both Professor Silvester Henderson and the Combined Choirs in 2006, in the area of “Sacred Music Excellence”. Because the department raised its performing expectation to only include skilled christian musical professionals, the department grew from 150 to close to 400 participants from 1991- 2001. The department has established a quarterly music “Concert Calendar”. These concerts featured local musical guest and participants from all over the nation. The choir has hosted concerts and performed with featured noted artist such as the late Reverend Donald Vails, the late Reverend Daryl Coley, Reverend Quincey Fieldings Jr, the Late Mrs. Helen Stephens and the Lighthouse Singers, James Bignon, Craig Hayes (Board Member of the Gospel Music Workshop), Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, and Melonie Daniels (Musical Director for Mariah Carey). The Combined Choirs have performed for political legends such as the Reverend Jessie Jackson and noted clergymen, Jack Hayford. The history of the Palma Ceia Singers can finally be graciously summed up as singers whose mission is to give God “Total Praise”!!!!
