I know that many of you have been working customizing 1/24 scale crawlers and converting them into Micro Monster Trucks. This Southwest Monster Shop Tiny Titan is a step toward making it easier. One problem I've encountered and fielded many questions about is how to make them faster. There are ways, but it hasn't been easy to figure out what motor mounts, pinions, spur gears, etc to use. Hopefully this list will help clear it up. I don't take credit for it. I sourced it from Michael MacKenzie who worked with Ernie at Southwest Monster Shop on testing his Tiny Titan chassis. He complied a list of parts and I've used that as the base for my list.
Start with an Axial SCX24: bit.ly/SCX24-6...

This is awesome 👍 I can’t believe none of the manufacturers have done a micro monster truck yet. I’d be on board and buy a couple lol
I'd buy at least 4
1/24 Losi LMT would be killer
I’m holding out because I know if I dump a few hundred into a scx24 they will make a micro monster
Those are pretty sweet. Always good to have something to run inside when the weather is lousy.
I’m so paranoid that the tiny titans are going to sell out and I’ll miss em. Ha. Every part is on the way.
Yours turned out freakin SWEET!
I have a feeling he'll keep making them as long as they are selling. Sign up for notifications from his Facebook page. I had it set so all his posts show up at the top of my newsfeed.
yep - they're sold out on the site now
@@CCxRC good call
Back in stock as of yesterday and still a few left this morning for a pre-buy
This thing looks pretty awesome Tony. I can see why you went all out on the Monster truck version of this. Looks and runs awesome!! Great chatting with you the other night as well.. Thumbs up brother
Thanks Nick! I saw you on the live and had to pop on to say hello. Put me a day behind on this video...but totally worth it. Great chatting with you
Great video Tony, that thing looks like a blast to drive.
I've been driving it a lot inside. So much fun
Beat rc channel I’ve come across
Hells yes!!! Big squid is doing a build too but looks like yours is A to Z finished!
You know your MTs so I think I trust your word just a tad more than squid, they know too but... yours is finished ;)
Doug Welker with Big Squid/Trigger King will do a great job with it.
great video. a lot of good info about the build and pitfalls. Now YOU are gonna make me spend MY MONEY!!! LOL. I wanted to anyway. ha! thanks for all the good advice on this build
I'm not making you...you want to spend your money
@@CCxRC true
Finally a legit reason to run double barrel shocks.
I'd still run a PN Racing 90t motor. Maybe give it a Tegu and 3s
Awesome video Tony. I was thinking about doing something like this with my 3 mini monsters but definitely glad you did it.
Great video! Awesome idea for body mount. You’re a genius. Have fun inside this winter.
Thanks! I gave you a shoutout on the Podcast today
@@CCxRC thanks for the shoutout! Just wait until I get my Tiny Titan road worthy!
Awesome little rig. Welcome to Michigan
Thanks. Enjoying it so far
Nice. Thanks for the vid. I have the instructions but always love to watch to find out tips or pitfalls. About to build mine now.
🔥 🔥 this is so cool. Love it great job Tony! 👏
Awesome Tony, I have the wheels and tires, also the lizard I have it on my Betty. All I need is the brushless motor and the chassis awesome
That looks amazing!! Someone needs to make these into an RTR and they would fly off the shelves!
I agree! Fly off the shelves
What do you think is an acceptable price point for this truck, as built? $400-500? Assuming a cheap radio is thrown in, that's more or less what he has in it.
@@derrickwilliams2903 I think an RTR for $250-300 or so wouldn’t be unreasonable depending on options. I would shoot for the $250 or less range because it separates it from the price of the 1/10 scale trucks a bit. And it wouldn’t need all the metal extras if the parts were designed to work in the truck. This one is so expensive because it’s a fully upgraded piece. Custom and aftermarket always adds cost.
@@CCxRC I agree. There are a ton of places to cut cost. If it were mostly plastic with just a stronger (130 size?) motor and better (2-3kg?) servo, I think $200-250 would be very achievable. It's an easier sell to make something that's fun and a good starting point than something already upgraded to the hilt at twice the cost.
Oh yes, my RTR comment was on a more cost effective version with a plastic or metal chassis. Afraid I only work in £ so think they could probably get away with £190. We pay about £120 for the scx24. Mind you if we wanted licensed bodies then I guess that will add quite a bit.
I have so many 1/24 die cast trucks with the bkt tires I'd love to see a moulding between the two. Spinmaster took Monster Jam toys to another level. Just picked up my first scx24.
I agree. The new spin master toys are much better
Thank you Tony for the links, I got the brushless motor on the way 8600 KV
I'm going to be testing some other options as well
That’s awesome, well all I need is the shocks, the motor I like the bombproof transmission in the chassis
Good deal! The mofo transmission is really nice.
Nice.. I was wondering when people would finally utilize the higher kv surpass motors for monster trucks or rock bouncers. You see a lot of vids with bouncers or monsters running stock motors or the komodo, and I kept thinking put a 5 to 10k kv motor and then it will rip, and go even further and go up to the 3 cell with a furitek esc.. nice work!
Yes! I want to try 3s
@@CCxRC you could also see if the rc4wd 24th scale axels are compatible, they use standard gears (not worm gear drive). However not sure how they would handle with all that power.. but I bet you could get your monster truck up to 15 to 20mph for a little bit until axel gears exploded. .
@@CCxRC also, If you run a 3 cell with a motor of that high of a kv rating, I would suggest metal axel housings and some some good grease like lithium grease in those housing. I know with a 5k kv brushless motor and 3cell running about 5 minutes of bashing , the motor is pretty hot but also the axels housings are hot to the touch. I have a scx24 bouncer with that set up, and find 5 to 10 minutes top, with steel axels housing, hardened axels and good grease for the them.. my setup will snap dogbones, and wear out drive cups very fast.. even have snapped the drive cups clean off (stock ones)
@@michaelbarajas1544 yes this is the best comment, you are absolutely correct!
What pinion do you use? Does the surpass motor linked in the description come with a pinion?
I used the pinion that came with the Hot Racing .5 mod gear set. It is a pinion and spur. Direct fit
There is a 10500-11000kv motor that fits the plate as well. It's what I have in mine but it has a sizeable fan to help cool it. Those little brushless motors make a ton of heat. As for the bolts you can use 2 chassis bolts cut down in length. Motor designations are 1220 for 10500kv and 1222 for 11000kv.
That is Simply Awesome!! The Shark Body is Hot!!! 🏆🤗
Thanks! I like the Megalodon truck
Awesome video as always!
So it's doing ok with the worm gears? I thought the monster trucks were using the ecx or Barrage axles. I turned my scx24 into a buggy and want lots of speed so I went brushless, 3s, overdrive and 15t pinion gear and got some speed I am thinking of a father motor but everyone says the worm gears get to hot.
Oh man that’s freaking awesome I must build one !!
These parts apply regardless of the chassis you use. I do prefer the Southwest Monster Shop one over 3d printed, but the ECB are really nice quality prints
Are you running the stock pinion on the motor
Haha looks like Gandolf likes mini monster Jam 🐱😉👍
That’s awesome but, how do hook up a new remote and receiver to this thing?
Just like any other RC. Get a remote and receiver, then plug your ESC and steering servo into it.
That's awesome Brotha
Thats so BADASS
Why not use the momentum esc from furiteck? The lizard is a crawler esc. Just wondering. Seems you’d get better wheel speed.
The lizard had the right motor connector on it for this specific motor. The momentum has 3 wires with no connector. I don’t believe the ESC will give more wheel speed. It may have different settings l for the delivery of that power, but wheel speed will mainly be the motor. Both are 20a ESCs. I have a momentum for a Rocket 1410 but you need to solder right to the motor, so the momentum is perfect
@@CCxRC I see. Makes sense. I’d just want to get enough speed to really trick a scx monster truck build out. Like enough to wheelie and do back flips off the correct ramp. Have you looked into any other set ups that you think would get us there? Badass by the way!! Thanks. Great channel.
Do you have a list somewhere with what you need to do this as grave digger
Nvm. Found your other video!
Glad you found it
I think you mentioned it in the video, but the Mofo brass skid is missing from your list of links.
It’s an add-on when you buy the transmission
@@CCxRC ah. It's out of stock and none of the add-on's show up.
Questions,1: did you film this before getting the fruited motor/esc set up?
2: Could dual shocks be set up? (More scale)
3: Are the AMT tires still available? (Rumor is no😢). Thanks.
Your channel is excellent by the way! Great work.
This was before the Furitek setup. This was for a quick motor swap setup. Dual shocks can be setup. Chassis Came with the mounts. Mounts didn’t fit my aftermarket aluminum axles. AMT tires are discontinued. Need to find one of the model kits that has them (USA-1, Coca-cola, Hot Wheels…etc)
😁👍 That is neat!
Thanks Steve!
Which wheels did you like better? Ecb or the new ones?
I'm honestly indifferent. Both work really well
Dumb question how to keep pinion gear on surpass motor shaft ? I am thinking epoxy. Thanks
All I needed was friction. It was very tight
Can it do flips?
I'd love to do this but alot of key parts are out of stock
Same with when I started. I just started buying what was available until I had it all. Had to wait 3 weeks on the motor anyway
top speed? total build cost?
I have two questions.. with the setup you are running. Can it still crawl ? Are the longer shocks dry or greased?
I put a dab of CowRC Udder butter in each
Haven’t tried crawling with it
@@CCxRC ok, I was just curious about the foc style feature and if it needed a much lower kv motor to work tx
Look epic!
I might get my own ;)
Thats still awsome mini megadon Truck evintho u made it last year
Does the Godzilla fit in the tiny titan?
Yes. The upper links hit under full compression, but not too bad.
@@CCxRC Sweett!! Was able to score a tiny titan this morning so I was just curious about it
My son would love this can I buy a complete set from you guys instead of building it, I have zero experience 😅
Best options is to buy the Losi LMT mini. It’s way stronger, more capable and costs 1/2 of building one of these
What's that grave digger body from ?
That was from a Revell Snaptite model kit. Spinmaster has some on their 1:24 scale RCs at walmart and Target. Buy the RC for $15 and scrap everything but the body
Mantap bos ku mbl nya kak salam sukses selalu ya hadir menyimak bos ku semangat trus
No four.wheel steer? 😉
Nope. At speed it already is a handful. 😀
Dog gone it thought I was done with projects. But I got to have this , I want the grave digger body appreciate you sharing,
Cool
This hobbie has so many options. 👋🌍
Sweeet guess I need a couple more scx's lol
You can never have too many :)
Chassis official out of stock for every now thanks to Tony 😆 🤣 😂 😹 awesome rig brother a top manufacturer should make this people would pay
They were out of stock right after they were announced and then again right after a pre-order was setup for the second batch. He's got more coming. Follow them on Facebook for updates.
@@CCxRC cool will do brother 😎
Worm gear axle sound like a terrible idea when building something for speed. I wish axial made a 1:25 or 1:18 mini wraith spawn without worm gears..
Worm gear would've have been my first choice....but it's pretty durable for the size of the axle. Runs better than I expected
So sick lol
Just checked chassis out of stock. ETA on them.
He had said on his Facebook that he hoped to have more stock this month
Ahh i found answer to questions i asked on your live ,
Awesome build
Wikid rad
U forgot a new radio, money money money honey. I have the deadbolt its amazing with upgrades. The motor is overkill or something u get later down the road, definitely not nessesary for just crawling
Zip ties FTW
Zip ties are macgyver and chuck norris combined into one.
Wow - my cat would have switched into play mode and gone full attack instead of just watching.
He used to. Now he just watches closely and follows it around
So I bought the lizard and the same brushless.motor you recommended and my stock transmitter caught fire immediately upon hitting the throttle. Wtf?
Hey Tony. Can you run the hbx devastator or enduro24 axles with the tiny titan or ecb chassis for more wheelspeed with ring and pinion axles
I don't know. It would probably require changing the links as well. I know the SCX24 driveshaft will fit on the Enduro24 axle.
