Storm chaser intercepts major flood in Greenville, South Carolina by drone

- Storm chaser Reed Timmer documents a flash flood caused by a 1-in-10 year rainfall event in Greenville, South Carolina from storms training over the same area. These storms were fueled by an incredible warm Gulf of Mexico, with a blob of 70-75F dew points dominating the entire Gulf. This storm system produced tornadoes as well. Over 4" of rainfall was measured in Greenville which has been identified as a 1-in-10 year recurrence interval at this location.
Meanwhile, a powerful atmospheric river event is hammering California with flooding rainfall. Double digit rainfall totals are expected over the next week. Debris flows are likely off the wildfire burn scars. A major river flood event is developing in California especially in the mountainous areas where orographic lift is favored.
Flood chase mode has been activated.

Here is north GA, we got 4” on the same day as this. We had some flash floods as well. Good report Reed.
I did see those green boxes in northern GA!
@@ReedTimmerWx yeah it was pretty bad, all the rains were in the middle of the night. Made things pretty bad for morning commuters.
I feel for Gizmo. My little guy suffered pancreatitis before he passed. Keep little one as warm as possible♥ Hang in there Gizmo.
Can't wait to see progress on your new dominator!
GOOD TO SEE GIZMO...BLESS YOU LITTLE ONE🐶
YES BLESS YOU GIZMO 🐶
Glad to see Gizmo back on the chase with ya.
Yes, we do all we can as long as we can.. for our "babies". Love on Gizmo for us
I missed Gizmo so much so I’m glad he is back with u
I’m from Greenville and have seen some major flood events. This is a huge one!
You rock Gizmo !!
So happy Gizmo is doing better!❤
Can't wait for more tornado videos Reed Timmer. Keep up the good work.
I love the tornado videos!
That trail is on my bucket list!
I feel sorry for the animals that live in the Ground...and the animals on top to and also the people to because I know whats it like loseing everything in a flood. ....and thank you Reed Timmer for keeping us updated on all weather conditions ...Just Be safe and careful out there on the roads and highways while chasing these storms....I am so happy to see Gizmo..
yeah but sadly no-one cares about them
@@schlaufux5690 you'd be surprised at the amount of money that goes to saving "animals" that aren't human
We're used to heavy rain events more in the spring and summer, but this occurring in January is definitely unusual. The squall line coming thru the Charleston Metro definitely had torrential rainfalls in the healthy cores...
I live in the Charleston área, we dont have this going on at all. Today is 1/6/23, did this happening in Greenville in the past few days? I hope y’all stay safe.
I loved this format. Great job of being on the ground footage.

Hey Reed! Great video! I was driving rush hour traffic that day from Easley to Greenville on 123 and it was insane!! Between the flooding and the rapid rain fall and I sense this is occurring more frequently in this region? I can't believe they spent all that money on Unity Park, essentially in a flood zone off the Reedy River and what's even more fantastic is that land developers want to construct more projects along this river off the swamp rabbit trail!! Amazing
At least it is intentionally built to be flooded, which is supposed to mean that flooding doesn't cause any major damage and that cleanup is relatively cheap (compared to having something else flood instead).
It would be very interesting to see a follow up on whether the planners got their stuff right or if a flood fucks things up big time.
You need "post 10" and his rake
Yes we do. I am a fan
Gizmo 🙌🏻
Wow! Floods are so damaging
Gizmo is cute, I had a white Persian cat I named Gizmo also
Quite scary with all of the flooding in different parts of the country. Yet, ski lodges are closing. 😳 Nice to see Gizmo! 🤗🥰 I bet she loves riding along with her Papa!
TYVM for sharing this drone video Dr Reed!
☺️✌️❤️🦋🙏
Long range forecast models show winter returning for the eastern US!
@@ReedTimmerWx My people in NY are keeping me updated! As I have also passed the word about your good name to follow! 😉 I have at least thirty relatives there! A friend out there said on Wednesday that the weather has been ugly. But she'll drive through anything! Kinda like you, but not quite! 😂🤗✌️❤️🦋🙏
This video is so sacary looks so dangerous! And nobody else talked about this flood! Wow! Poor little dog! Thanks
Wow, crazy to see you in the neighborhood! We sure have been getting a lot of rain
Hi Reed 👋🏾 I miss Gizmo 🐶🌹
It floods a lot here in the upstate but we have beautiful weather
Far out!
I thought we had it bad down here in Australia with the Murray River reaching levels not seen since 1956, thanks to 3 years of La Niña weather effects which cause severe rainfall during the Australian summer. 😳
I think in recent times, the world itself as far as weather patterns are concerned has really gone crazy. 🤪
The trees definitely got watered I guess lol.
Dominator 4.2 on the go. Time to dominate the flood.
Never Stop Chasing
That's a lot of water
I use to live in greenville. This is insane!
When I was a kid and we got a small flood, I loved going to all the ditches to watch the water flow through the pipes, it would make whirlpool"s.. I thought it was cool . 🤗
Hi Reed, was just wondering.. does the new Dom swim, I mean float well? 🌈❣️
It does not float yet! We have been considering a floating version
Would be pretty helpful for storm surge intercepts...
@@ReedTimmerWx 😎since 88%of the time your in torrentials🌪️🌊🌊?we want you to float ❣️
Storm chaser puppy 💛
I live in Liberty, SC, and I didn't even ķnow that this happened!!
Will the flooding in California have any affect on Lake Mead? I’ve been following the drought there and the whole Lake Mead thing is sad, not to mention terrifying!
In general the abundance of precip out there this winter will help the drought situation
I didn't know you lived in Greenville
I rode the Reedy river in my kayak that same day down stream in Simpsonville. At 18 ft!! Video is on my channel
Wow your propellors make a really eerie sound dude.
Yay Gizmo!
My great great grand pappy is buried at the Reedy River Baptist church cemetery. You are near Travelers Rest?
What dates did this storm occur? Thanks!
My bro live north of San Francisco they are having trouble with excessive rain - the Pineapple Express
Get rid of the background noise so what you are saying can be heard.
yo Reed did you see that new jaw dropping flex seal commercial? Bro that shit was insaaaaane!!
i am lucky for these events to skip where i live, sadly it gets the cities right next to me.
Wow! Great video! Love Gizmo is getting better!
Nothing like a flood in your backyard
Yeah sometimes you just have to work your area haha
Darn trash in the river!
Dominator survived from flood?
Editing tip for graphics: Unless you are doing text graphics for comedic purposes, make sure you can read your graphic text twice before it moves off screen. Several times I had to back up to read what the text said because it transitioned too quickly.
Thank you! I will make that change. I appreciate the pointers I am working on my production
Parts of California are now having floods.
Thinking of chasing the second wave early next week
If that happened with a day or so of raining, what do you think might happen if it rain none stop for about a week??....
Depends.
Is it steady rain or a driving downpour? Is the ground soft and moist, cracked and dried up hard or is it already so waterlogged that it simply cannot absorb anymore?
All these variables always come into play with flash floods.
Is the date correct?
do you test the water?
No but I love this idea
Training thunderstorms flooding the same area repeatedly I have witnessed flooding of this severity here in ireland mainly due to precipitation carried by fronts with in synoptic scale low pressure systems
There was a person that kayaked down the reedy River downtown greenville. It looked like it was raging. I know my back yard was a river.
It doesnt take it long to go from calm to raging in the hills I live in sw missouri in a matter of seconds to minutes it can change your life
Oh yes you get crazy flash floods in the Ozarks
I see this was posted 21 hours ago, when did this flooding actually happen? When was the last time this happened, out of curiosity.
Be nice people, I understand it is a “once in a decade” event, but surely it’s not ten years to the date.
That’s a recurrence interview. Flood happened yesterday
Well I didn't even get notified at all.
For some reason YT did not send out many notifications
I feel bad for the people who used to sleep there before the flood. 😔
So come see me in not far
A tornado touched down in red bank not too far from you
Yikes
666k subs
WHY do people sleep in Unity Park at night?? Homeless folks?
Most likely, I know that the park itself was built in a lower-income area of the city
I’ve
Seen
Way
Way
Worse…
Red-wow. this is unusual ,do you want more subscribers?- 😎
Floods Never Stop Amazing me!! Your Vidoes of them are Unbeievable Reed!! Thank You So Much for Your Courage on All You Do!! God Bless!🙏🕊
The falls in downtown Greenville, S.C., were raging! Always fun to watch the canoes/kayaks going over them. I've seen people slide over part of the falls as well, but only when the flow is much less intense.
There's parts of England that look like that at the moment, the only difference is we don't have Reed here.
Stay safe everyone and keep an eye on your neighbours. 🙂👍
I see some trash in that water some plastic bottles and cups somebody needs to get that out of the water fast we don't need that in our waterways these damn litter bugs LOL
Rewatching this after seeing latest updates on hurricane Helene. I have a feeling upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina are going to see catastrophic river flooding. As of this morning the Saluda River was at 4 ft but is expected to reach 17ft by end of day Friday. In North Carolina they opened the flood gates at lake Lure this morning.
Hello Gizmo, hehehe...and Reed.
She says hello!
It's worse in California. Too bad you don't cover the West Coast. It limits what I view now on your site.
Once a decade floods are now once a year and 100 year floods are now once a decade….or even more often.
Reed, leave the text on the screen a bit longer so we have time to read it all.
Ok my bad thank you
@@ReedTimmerWx thank u. Stay safe sir 🫂
Reed Timmer on the Reedy River! Keep up the awesome work Reed and great to see little gizmo!
