While I was still in the Army after coming back from Viet Nam, I won a phonograph at an UFO bingo night. My roommate and I in the barracks wore out the record. We played it under candles to relax. I thank whomever posted this. Former SP5 Miles, 1st Special Forces Group Airborne, USAMMCS, Ala.
I just got back from Tanzania - when I was in the Serengeti last week, I walked away from camp just before dawn with my Ipod, and watched the sunrise with this playing... blew my fucking mind
went and saw this played live last night in downtown LA... it was EPICALLY AMAZING!!!!! had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I absolutely loved it and wish to see it played again!!
The passage for divided strings from the "Von den Hinterweltlern" section gets me every time! It is so beautiful and the principal viola is just great!
The conductor is essentially the master, the dictator of everything that happens in the music. He/she looks at the score and decides when things will happen and how they will happen within the confines of the score, which is only an imperfect guide to the music. He/she lends an intensely trained outside ear to the music and fine-tunes the orchestra in subtle ways that enhance the music. But perhaps most obviously, he/she keeps the orchestra in time, especially through shifts in time and tempo.
Pappano is to our times what Karajan was to his: a great conductor who delivers performances that not only do justice to great music but that convey it in a way that only he does or can do. If you want music conveyed with passion, power, and grace, then what you want is Pappano on the podium. He delivers there high drama that doesn't diminish, but instead enhances, the music's deeper messages.
Some years ago I saw a comedian doing a spoof of a Maestro. He was suspended on wires so he could gyrate every which way without falling over, he would lean way down, sway way over etc. It was hilarious and in the same class as the spoof on Rockit.
l'Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia c. Antonio Pappano… they do this op better’n an’body else i have found over this hour i spent on searching the best performance of the very beginning of this fantastic op. SANTA CECILIA RULES!
@MaestroMan999 This orchestra is the Orchestra of the Rai, the national Italian network. The concerts are freely broadcasted every friday evening at the radio, so I think it's recorded by the radio programme :)
All the wonderful magic of Friedrich Nietzsche is live and alive in this beautiful music, thanks to this incredible technology we have it at home. Alberto Valdivia Portugal
Great performance the orchestra and the Maestro. It is easy to recognize this amazing a piece of music due to intro being used in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey :)
@MarlonOwnsYourCake They are called Rotary Trumpet, because of the rotary valves. They are used mainly for German music, as they are German horns. They just get a different sound than the regular piston valve trumpets. The Berlin Philharmonia plays on the rotary trumpets. They are real expensive though. :)
Oooh... I love how he took his time, especially with the intro... Especially the syncopated rhythm of the timpanis... It's a pity the recording quality is not quite there...
@sempiternaleternal The Organ actually holds the chord for an extra measure with low strings holding the tremolo below it to transition to the next movement.
Also Sprach Zarathustra or Thus Spake Zarathustra is a philosophical Novel written by German philosopher Frederic Nietzsche. It explain how the ancient Persian prophet Zarathustra descended from his solitude and told the world that God is dead and his successor in earth is the embodiment fragments of divinity, the Superhuman or Abovehuman (Ubermench). One of the most influential Books in modern literature.

Great performance for the orchestra and the Maestro .
I only hope I will be alive to see that incredible year...
Truly this composition is THE definition of epic.
Listen to the glory of the music, fly: and forget about any little "interference" that might "hold your attention" away from beauty & power.
The melodramticness of this song makes me want to great things.
Spaziale, che onore che ci fate...!

If you listen closely, you can hear voices, as if in the static some radio channel is put through.
Oooh... I love how he took his time, especially with the intro... Especially the syncopated rhythm of the timpanis...
It's a pity the recording quality is not quite there...
