    Thank you Ben.
This is why I like just sticking to larger residential projects.
Colorado inspectors want to see 3" vents always, at 16" off roof, builders want as few penetrations as possible, so you gotta do the song and dance while basically not saying, "I'm not running this whole run to tie the house together, just to save a roof jack and curb appeal."
I personally like seeing plumb vents, gives character!! And tells a story on what you got going on.

You'll be happy to know that the UPC just changed the frost vent termination requirement from 2" to 3" minimum as of 2024 code

So you either put 4 2inch vents through the roof or you tie them in all together to put a 4inch vent through the roof?

Well, the concept is such that as long as your vents have the same area or greater going through the roof as that of the sewer line exiting the structure, then you're in compliance. So you could have a 4" vent with ten 2" vents if you wanted as long as it's equal to or greater than the sewer line out the door- so to speak.

Thanks for posting these video’s. Is it possible to size a DWV drawing and the steps you take while sizing? Taking my test soon and would like to see how others do theirs. (WA state)

Aaron, check this out. I did this one a few months back. Get back to me with concerns or questions!

Can a toilet drain straight down waste line with no bend, but venting above?

    • @BGsPlumbingClass

Short answer is no, based on whichever code you are working with. UPC allows a total of 6' before venting is required, and IPC has no limits to distance before venting.

What is the code in joint trenching? Can sewer, water, gas and electrical be ran in the same trench?

Take a look at chapters 609.2 and 720.1, both of which should say essentially the same thing.

How about in the event it doesn’t meet the requirement? Can you give an example on that situation

    • @BGsPlumbingClass
      @BGsPlumbingClass  Рік тому

In many cases, if the requirement isn't met, the vent for the furthest water closet is made full size through the roof.

I've been taught to calculate the pipe sizes by .7854

Yes, that is another way of calculating the area of a circle d x d x .7854

there is a lot more detail to this rule that what is shown on the video

That is true. I did this video to give a brief explanation on the concept of cross sectional area. I hope you did get something out of this, however. If you would ever need any information on something or a question about anything, let me know.
