And then for absolutely no reason, the doofus in charge of "balancing" decided the damage on the JAR was too high and reduced it by 25. I wish arrowhead would fire whoever this guy is already, or at least put him in charge of making coffee in the office or something so he stops screwing with things unecessarily.

Always loved the weapon, been using it before the buff and once I got used to it it became my favorite, after the buff, I won’t leave my ship without it

@@Ettenbuettel The dominator is the boltiest of any gun, it literally shoots a bullet that turns into a little rocket after a while.

You can also switch it to Burst Fire Mode as well. Pretty useful to hit the Charger and Bile Titian weak points.

I don't think I can use the jar without the rover on higher difficulties.
It definitely has downsides
highly recommend getting comfortable with switching to your pistol, for bugs especially or even consider using the flame grenades to deal with swarms. Fire damage is crazy
I used to love this gun. But once I got the Adjudicator, the dominator got moth balled. Adjudicator mag dump with ammo pack basically gives you the heavy MG damage output but mobile reload
The one thing that disappoints me about this gun is that it doesn't seem to be able to take out the shrieker lairs, but that's basically a nitpick lol

Yeah no shit. If you could use a primary on the shrieker nests, they would be underpowered and everybody would just use their primary instead of bringing stratagems that can destroy them.
@@leeham6230 bruh Im saying that because the Jar is explosive and normally explosives are good at taking out stuff like that, plus it can take out spore spewers which are very similar. The Jar is almost a support weapon anyways, using it as a primary almost always necessitates having a stratagem that is good at taking out bigger groups of little guys like a machine gun or something.

4:95 it actually one shots Stalkers if you hit them in the head and since they get stunned you can pretty consistently two shot them as in first to stun second to kill.
Plasma shotgun is also very strong. Less damage but it has massive AOE that means AOE stagger for extreme control of medium armored crowd.
Absolutely, if you can master the PlasmaPunisher, then you have a good gun! Sadly it gains very little ammo back from ammo packs
Dominator is a inbetween of the breaker and slugger which is how i would think of it as
I liked the Dominator before its recent buff, but there's one glaring weakness (in my mind): it cannot hit through the scout strider's front plate for the kill. I really feel like it should be able to, what with 300 damage, supposedly explosive, and medium armor penetration. Scorcher is still my beloved primary for being able to do this, and rip the guts off of Bile Titans, and smoking tank vents.
The dominator can disable a strider with two shots to the leg and three to the “groin” in case you didn’t know
my tip is turn off the flash light so the smoke from the barrel isnt impairing your vision so much
also if your anti tank strips a leg instead of taking the head or it' exposed for whatever reason then the jar can 2-3 shot that leg
easily makes it great with the quasar or eat for chargers and a rover for small bugs
Great vid! I also figured out that aiming method you made. I use the JAR 5 now as a staple for my flaming shock trooper build. My loadout was JAR-5, SMG pistol side arm, Flamethrower, stun nades, and medic arrmor. I bring 500kg and eagle, but may opt for napalm air strikes due to wider range but also possibly equal damage dealt even against anti armor, then the rover.
I let rover handle most while i use JAR-5 on the medium armors as you pointed, and if the situation is getting tough i bring out the flamer as the ammo eats fast for JAR5 on trash. I use my stratagems on the bile titans or nests and let flame handle charger as it dies in 3 sec with stun nades.
Im still in love with my build, have yet to see if rover can hit shriekers tho or how effective flamer is. I had to solo two flights worth amidst new guys, and yes including blowing up their nest with a hellbomb lol
JAR 5 buff was much needed and the sway is a decent pay off, but with that method we both use, it can be made manageable.
Once nade pistol is out i may bring it instead of the SMG pistol so i can close nests faster and rely less on air strikes.
JAR+laser guard dog+EAT/quaser cannon+stun grenade
Now you are good to go to butcher any types of bug
as for the bug hole ? wait for the grenade pistol :P
Quasar is quite effective at closing bug holes
The Jar 5's explosive quality is supposed to be in essence like the Bolter from 40k. The warhead is supposed to explode after entering flesh. I use the Jar 5 all the time, and it typically only explodes when it penetrates.

They should add a HEAT trait for guns as in high explosive anti tank, for guns like the jar that do the explosive weakspot stuff with no aoe
Another thing that helps with the jar is doing a running alide crouch. When crouched, the gun is less sluggish.
The one thing that would make this gun perfect is if it had a 30 round magazine. Which is one thing that doesn’t make silence is soldiers deploying to a war zone with limited ammunition. Pretty unrealistic
I 100% have killed off Bile Titans with the JAR-5 , Finishing them off when they are low by shooting the sacs OR open armor

Not sure but they do have a lot of aim options so probably, which can help preaim for sure
Yes but I personally have had issues of it disappearing in third person for some reason, a bug I'm sure.
While it's probably better to have it on, it jumps around all jitterly which is too annoying.
I got like 430 kills going with this load out: Dominator Shotty, Grenade Launcher with Supply Pack, regular grenades, Uzi pistol, And for orbitals i go with Rail Cannon and Orbital
Laser. Best loadout for soloing heavy out posts. Just carpet large groups of enemies with the grenade launcher and mop up any stragglers with the dominator. It works gorgeously. Its like your a walking 1 man mortar team
helldivers 1 wasnt about tiered weapon system where unlocking weapons meant more powerful weapons. If you have ever played HD1 you would know that all of the primary self defence weapons had pros and cons but no single one was a silver bullet against all. A level one player could be just as good as a level 100 player

Yep. Rover is absolute S-Tier vs bugs because there are just so many hunters and other small bugs on you. It is extremely easy to get overwhelmed if you aren't running the sickle/breaker incendiary and don't have the rover, especially when retreating, as the rover can just passively thin out hordes as you're running away. This is all the more important when running a heavier, penetration focused and small magazine gun like the JAR or Scorcher.
Similarly, you should be switching to your machine pistol sidearm, ideally in single shot mode, for hunters and scavengers. It has much faster tracking and a big mag size, perfect for clearing these bugs with your rover. Also great at ammo management with the JAR.
It's way better vs bots than bugs IMO
I use supply pack with it for 16 more smg secondary mags, 8 grenades, 8 stims...solves little bugs, hunters, and big spewers

Ive been using Dominator since they nerfed the Slugger. And i couldnt be happier with my choice
Just remember, if you dive your JAR will snap to your reticule, so use that to line up a shot while flying through the air and take some bots out (or mess up a stalker)
With the bots back in session I would like to add, the JAR-5 is a monster at killing the bot berserkers. A few shots the the chest straight up slices them in half
Even though it doesn't stun the spewers it still prevents them from spitting.
Also, it takes 4 shots into a charger's leg to kill him using the turning animation vulnurability.
I love this gun, loved it even before buff. Its both sniper rifle and medium bots killer.
The dominator sucks it doesn't hit anything and takes forever to reload

Dominator now finally perform somewhat similar to scorcher against bugs (5shot spores)
guns slow and recoil is high sure damage good but aim is bad now there are flying units its worse, smg always
forgets to mention that against spewers its a 1 shot headshot, you can blow up their big butt but usually ammo economy is the aim for the dominator

I like tonuse the Stalwart to clear the hoards then clean up the bigger bugs with the Dominator.
Turn off the flashlight so the muzzle smoke doesn't blind you at night.
The Dom was good before the buff. It's my go-to when I wanna get shit DONE! Getting those beautiful skull shots on an Automatons and blowing the heads off of bugs with the first shot is so satisfying.

Dominator is far better versus bots. It’s 1B and scorcher is 1A versus bots
When you aim down scope, there is practically no recoil.

Guys. The Punisher Plasma got a stealth buff. Before it had 100 damage. It now has 250.
Edit: also scorcher deals 200 instead of 100 damage
I believe this isn’t a buff but part of that last patch where they are saying the gun stats are more accurate now. Because the original 100 damage only really included the impact and didn’t factor in the secondary damage from the aoe blast
The callback to last of us factions made me so happy. I loved that multiplayer. Then I remembered there's no multiplayer in last of us 2 and now I'm sad.

The jar does have an aoe blast it’s very small but it’s there
As a newly minted Jar main, just wanted to clarify that while the Jar won't stop the Spewers from coming at you, it will stop them from spitting. They still do the wind-up animation but won't spit as long as you shoot them
The arc thrower also does this!

It also doesn't do extra dmg to weakspots, plasma punisher kills chargers in like 5-7 shots to the butt while having less raw dmg per shot than dominator

@@antares3030 As I said in the video this has to do with recommending the jar over the scorcher which is amazing vs bots and hard to beat. And I said I need time to test it before making a final conclusion. That’s not misinformation.

I find that the gun is extremely effective on Bot missions.
The Scorcher can effectively take care of devastators, walkers and raiders, but struggles against berserkers, with it's low damage and stagger.
The Dominator can effectively take care of devastators, raiders and berserkers, but struggles to kill walkers, since it has no AOE.
It's a switch between walkers and berserkers.
I feel ya, I usually carry the grenade launcher for stuff like that. Either that or shoot it in the ball bearings. (Surprising effective on an AT-ST 😂)
I can see this and I am coming around a bit on the jar vs bots but I will say the scorcher also is very effective against tanks which gives it a leg up. Splash damage to annihilater tanks and shoots through the armor plating for the shredder tanks
I'm thinking this gun would be a nice back up to the Stalwart and supply pack combo

I’ve unlocked every gun except this one. Is it the same handling speed as the counter sniper? I kinda like that gun despite the speed being a drawback.
It's about the same. Maybe slightly worse but almost unnoticeable worse

What does taking out the sack do to the bile titan?
It removes its ability to spit (long range capabilities).
How do you do on ammo count. Do you find yourself running out a lot of times calling in supplies.
The rover helps you save up bullets so you can focus on the medium guys but yeah it does feel like it depletes quickly
POIs usually have lots of ammo boxes laying around if you're low on ammo

I prefer the primary weapon with a big mag and a high rate of fire against bugs. But I spend so much time in the game, that I can finish it without using my primary and secondary weapons. I would love to see a difficulty level of 10+++. I feel like with each patch game is easier. BTW great review. 10/10 👌👍

I'm only using the Jar because the Scorcher isn't unlocked yet. The travel time over any kind of range is brutal.

Stop propagating the wrong use of the word viable. You mean optimal. Viable means usable. A seed is viable. That doesn't mean it will grow an abundance. That would be a word like potent, excellent, or poggers. Liked the vid anyway.
Dominator/stalwart on highest rpm/ ammo backpack/grenade pistol/stun grenade. I only play against bugs and this has become my standard. I actually skipped the dominator until this because my friend said it was trash when the game released. Its easily my favorite gun now. Feels like a Warhammer bolter.
I hate that sluggish rotation, cause you only notice it till actual using.
