Your channel is not boring, never has been, nor will be. I'm somewhat conflicted about all forms of addiction, but gamblers, alcoholism, and drug addicts are worthy of some help surely, if only to ameliorate the damage done to their families. Those that repeatedly return to the addiction should get less help perhaps. I'm not really qualified to comment on your system there, but in the UK some just manipulate the system for their own ends, hence my confliction.
I have long made the same argument you make here about addiction. As a 45 year old who has NEVER had a drop of alcohol or any kind of illegal drug it is a fact that I will never develop alcoholism etc. As you stated that is the difference between addiction and disease. I will concede that once addicted the treatment may need to be handled the same as disease, but that choice to try that addictive substance in the first place is THE key factor in it being that person's own fault they are addicted. Therefore the moral issue from the rest of us that the addicted person has injected, themselves, into the situation, like the addiction is their own fault. And as in so many people today an injection of personal responsibility would do them, and indeed most of us in one area or another, a😢 great service. Thank you so much for the content you provide. I don't agree with everything you say, but I do appreciate your willingness to share your wealth of knowledge and unique perspective with us all!! By the way, it's your fault I own so many Penguin Classics!!! And I thank you!! Lol
What about noncompliant diabetics? I hear it all the time. Their bodies are trying to kill them but if they don’t have the perfect exercise and diet regime, people say well, they are noncompliant.
@@ingridfitz5677 I know how hard it is to follow that diet and also how crazy the body reacts to illness and growth, etc. However, people take every opportunity to judge. Sometimes even the health professionals people are going to for assistance.
Steve, being as you are the youtube OVID expert and can read Latin (I think) I'd like your take on Stephanie McCarter's translation of Metamorphoses. From the description and marketing it certainly seems like a "woke" translation of the material, but I wonder how much of that is JUST marketing. Forgive me if you have addressed this work before.
Tolkien!!??!🤩 And those letters were very interesting - especially the first one! I wonder if the author of the letter assumes everyone dabbles in some form of drug and alcohol consumption but not everyone has the propensity to get addicted?
öhm - actually I encountered queer for gay a lot , perhaps it is an older or perhaps it is a british expression. Do you remember that character of "I'm a legal alien in New York" he was probably queer and rather than gay.
Weird old guy?…boring?.. haha never.. Well I was looking forward to listening to your gospel read along as well as more Sherlock Holmes, but real life always comes first..

The second “T” clearly represents a new Truffaut biography. (Perhaps another Tarantino novel???)
I had the strong impression that you knew Thom Gunn quite personally.
That’s preposterous, Steve is only twenty eight years old.

Eustace Tilly is from the 19th Century (see Beau Bummell), NOT the 1920s...

I've got it - it's Tommy Tuberville's autobiography (dictated, not read).

Is there an element of choice in lung cancer attributable to smoking tobacco?
