Manotick, Ontario received its name from the Ojibwa language. It translates to island in the river. Although Manotick is not an island, it is located adjacent to Long Island on the west bank of the Rideau River and south of Barrhaven. It covers nearly seven square kilometres of land and is one of the older settlements in the Ottawa cityscape.
Best known for its scenic location and its tourism trade, Manotick is home for a large bed and breakfast community, accompanied by the Manotick Classic Boat Club, an Art Association specific to Manotick. Other social clubs include the Isle in the River Theatre Company, a Kiwanis Club, and Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, a Toastmasters Club, a Horticulture Club, and a Branch of the Royal Canadian legion. In addition, the Manotick Village & Community Association is very active in the preservation of the local history associated with the Long Island Locks and the village.
Manotick is a rural town that manifests a relaxed feeling provided by the scenery over looking the River and the long Island community. Transportation in the community is limited to automobile, foot and bicycle traffic. The main roads that connect Manotick to Ottawa proper, (25 kilometres away), are River Rd to the east and Bankfield Rd off of the Veterans Memorial Hwy, (Hwy 416), to the west.
Knowing that you prefer living in a rural environment, the village of Manotick with a population of around 5,000 people, and access to schools in Richmond as well as having public and Catholic schools it will make a great place for your family and you to grow and become associated with a community that shows great pride in their surroundings.
