Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, this is the Ditto X4 from TC Electronic. When TC Electronic rolled out its no-nonsense Ditto looper, many players begged for the same simple platform with a host of features. The Ditto X4 was born of these requests and features a ton of live looping flexibility. The core of the Ditto X4 is made up of two independently footswitchable high quality loops, each with its own switch and five minutes of recording time. Players can then choose to run each loop in one of two modes. Serial mode lets players switch between loops one and two for some verse-chorus-verse action, and Sync mode activates both loops at once for complex passages and ambient licks. A dedicated stop footswitch halts both loops, and holding this swtich deletes them. One of seven effects can be used with the FX knob, with everything from half speed to reverse and fading effects, and each effect can be armed with the dedicated FX switch. Using TC's StarJam system, players can load pre-recorded loops from several famous artists, set the backing track level and jam along with them. As one might expect from an expansive looper, the Ditto X4 features true stereo ins and outs and MIDI compatibility for perfectly timed loops, and each Ditto X4 comes in a robust, stomp-proof enclosure with soft-touch true bypass switching.
I just have a hard time believing this dude can’t write great originals when his playing is this perfect. I want to hear Andy’s band
Absolutely killer demo, Andy! Loved every second of it :)
Having the indicator lights in a position hidden by your toes when stomped is retarded, who would design such an obvious flaw... IT SUCKS... I need to see the light clearly on the fly and can't because of this ignorance.
The last tune Andy played totally killed my soul...such a beautiful simple harmony.
Andy's talent could sell me on anything
yeah one clip he plays a soup can with rubber bands on it and so I went and bought a case of tomato soup! Not only was it tasty but my 'Tone' improved immensely!!
the ditty at the end was so beautiful. wonderful overdriven lead sound as well.
Man you are the only one that actually showed the full potential and issues as well. For example, in other videos no one is trying to stop just one loop during synch. Everyone is keep on adding layers and then suddenly the stop both. This is one of the main things a live performer would ask. Record a rhythm section on loop 1, record one verse on the loop 2, and then stop the loop 2 to play the chorus along with the rhythm section on loop 1. This is one of the main limitations of this looper. You have to double tap, risking to embarrass yourself or just don't be 100% accurate. It is impossible to double tap in time and at the same time play guitar, loop and sing. They should have added one stop button for each loop and remove the effect button. The effects that can finish a song, like tape stop, fade, once, and hold, should be on the current stop button with a switch. So the looper would have 5 switches instead of 4 and it would be way more useful for live performance.
I bought one, and I returned it quickly, to stick with my good old Ditto X2 looper: For some odd reason, unlike the X2, the volume knobs go from 0-100%, whereas the X2 has a 100% volume at 12 o´clock, allowing you to set the loop louder than the live playing. Which i use a lot - so i found out. It is, now that I know also noticable in this video but nobody mentions it. Just as a head up for players like me who like the X2 and are considering upgrading. For the rest, the X4 has it all, but for me that part didnt work.
Yeah it's weird, this sounds weird now that you say this. The live playing is distractingly loud.
Are you still happy with your X2?
I noticed that in this video right away- Andy looped it and it got quiet
@Ritchie Rosson Sorry missed your question. Yes I am, I tend to use it for solo performances where I sing & play guitar. the X2 is very simple, and I can also easily find the buttons without looking down, which is good when you are singing into a mic. Mostly I do tape it to the ground so i don't push it away when moving my feet.
Great demo. Both modes explained and shown perfectly. And by pausing after each phrase it was really clear what was being played live and what was looped. Quality. Thanks.
Unbelivable...this pedal + Andy = an amazing new song! Fantastic!
I picked one up like 2 weeks ago. You can make some really outlandish drones with the half speed and hold functions. This is a great looper- It was a tough decision between this and the EHX 22500... As usual, great technique and style Andy! I was watching some of the old PGS vids, when it was mostly hand shots lol. You've come a long way!
What were your main reasons for choosing this over the EHX? Interested as I'm in the same decision making process ATM ...
+Christopher Palmer
The Ditto X4 is $250, 22500 is like 275, plus the external footswitch for functions costs another $50 at least... Plus the sync/serial feature and effects are a big plus for me. The 22500 has the ability to store multiple loops though... but you can save each of the 2 loops on the X4 with the mini switch or via USB... The only feature I wish that both included was a mini aux out- this should be standard on today's loopers for recording from phones/tablets/or what ever other 1/8" line in you can connect. But thats why I also have the Boss RC-3! You can easily create some cool samples with the aux input.... Cheers!
+thegourmetchef30 thanks very much!! :)
This little Looper Pedal does exactly what it promises.
That last song might just be the greatest thing andy has ever played!
+Andrew Hauck Agree, can we all just take a moment and appreciate how killer Andy's playing is on all these demos?
4:30 - 6:00 i just had some wonderful lyrics pop in my head. thanks.
Andy you are the best of the best Please give tabs on the last track!
Wow Andy that last tune you came up with is beautiful, sort of Frittertronicsy very cool.
Andy might be one of my favorite players on UA-cam. His technique is so on point. Also, what's the name of that last song? I feel like it's familiar but I can't quite put my finger on it.
+nothingislogical Thank you! The last song just wrote itself with the Ditto X4. That's the beauty of a good looper!
-Andy
+nothingislogical I think you may be mistaking it for a Kings of Leon newer feel. That kind of what I'm hearing too.
+ProGuitarShopDemos Dude Your fingerpicking is great, still I wonder why you don't use a pick(although you don't need one obviously)
Totally agree! He's playing is accurate and tasty! Thanks for the good reviews here! I already order my Flashback X4 thanks to Andy! And next is my T2 Reverb!
Bonnie rait used to rule the world
It's to the point where Andy could make a Sawtooth Strat and a broken Biyang Reverb sound awesome.
Best demo I've seen of this yet!
Hi, about the volume controls.. if they are in the middle position is the same of the guitar volume (like original volume) or just when the knobs are at the end? Thank you
Awesome tones from that strat
Great demo. To the point and well played. Thank you!
Amazing presentation! It looks like you've just convinced me to buy one... 🙂
Question here - We play to a click track live with a laptop/AxeFX, and since I'm one guitar player, I need something that can be synced to midi to play a pre-recorded riff at the exact moment the solo comes in, without me touching anything on the pedal at all. Is that possible with this pedal?
Whoah. I did not expect you to go into James Brown's "Good Foot". Nice.
Ótima demonstração, explorando tudo o que o equipamento tem.
insane playing
Does the looper quantize? Like If you hit the record at the end of a phrase, will it wait till the new phrase starts to begin recording? And will it push loops to lock into the right quarter note, etc? Thanks!
Great playing sir.
Trying to decide on a tabletop looper for use with electric piano and synths. Looking at this but also closely-priced Boss RC-202. Both offer good features, hard to decide. Thought the Boss would be easier on the hand...
Damn it, another pedal I am going to have to buy.
Is it possible to play both loops with one click after you stop everything?
Great playing Andy! Damn I wish I had more money to buy this it's the bee's knees
can this pedal accept line level inputs from say a mixing desk, or would an attenuator/preamp of some sort be required?
What overdrive was used in this video?
You a really cool player, your strumming technics are very impressive! Does anyone know, is he in a band or something? I'd like to check out that stuff if there is some.
I would have like to see you use the export function to , get are favorite artist beat to play along
Great video :) Thanks for posting. Q: Does the stop button START both loops if they're already stopped? I'm imagining stopping everything for a beat then bringing it all back in... easily!
samkennedy01
I'm not sure about this one, but I know the Boss RC 30 will. however the rc30 doesn't feature totally independent loops.
Brilliant! Could you have a bass and a guitar plugged into it at the same time?
Yes.
2 inputs and 2 outputs, so the foh or you own your own can mix both differently
really nice playing
Very nice demo, as usual. What happens pressing the stop switch during loop recording?
Good review bro
Man the tone is amazing on thid one. What kind of amp are you using?
i cant seem to get my loops to sync with themselves properly. theres a big delay from when the loop ends to when it restarts
Does anyone know why my x2 and freeze nolonger work instead light turns yellow and does nothing,??? Anyone please help
we all love a good andy vid right guys
Hey thanks, hope to see you on my current channel as well!
Andy
Zarpado lo tuyo Andy. Cheers.
Im tempted to buy this second hand but a lot of ppl saying it's complete shit that keeps breaking. Btw he seems to pressing the loop record button earlier than the first beat, what's with that?
It only has to be timed perfectly on the first loop, second loop you can hit it a bit before.
Song names?
what's it's the mark of your guitar ?
There’s nothing like a worn guitar ❤️
Great demo! :-)
Great video.
Has anyone tried, can you plug in an mp3 player or computer output in one of the channels while having the guitar into the other? Will this work with a stereo-mono adapter?
How long of a track can you record with this looper?
Answered my own question!
What distortion pedal was that at 5:09? Sounded BEAUTIFUL
shredurguitar sounds more like an over drive. Could be the tube screamer.
Same question
you're so inspired!!!
that last track was sublime! was that one of your own Andy?
...Anybody know how to sync this to a DSI Tempest?
Mick Taylor, is that you?
james brown mah fuckah
Get on the Good Foot !
Hands down the funkiest song choice I've ever seen to demo a pedal
came here to check out the pedal but ended up just watching this fucking guitar wizard do his thing
Andy "hearing aid" Proshop!!!! LOL This dude. You will distort a banjo and vibraphone if someone gave you one!!!
WANT!
"Bitch" by the Rolling Stones! Gotta love it.
The background music annoying
Stoooooones
Two loopers not enough for a multi track loops, still the normal loopers dittos are better imo
overdrive of course. distorted noize expert.......he wants to be a rockstar sooooooobad!! lol. thumbsdown!!! two times and his!!
