To be honest there weren't any questions that you, as a fan, haven't heard. "How did you come up with your makeup?" "How did you meet?" etc... The most interesting question was mine, which was, "Why do all the studio albums begin with a "Paul" song except for Revenge and Carnival of Souls?" The answer was that Paul was trying to set a mood for each album and his songs just happened to do that. It wasn't an ego thing or a long-ago decided thing that he would do that.
Remember back in the day when this kind of thing was just a bunch of roadies, techs, and a few locals? I was backstage at the 1990 Hot in the Shade show in Phoenix and I pay a dime for the privilege. I knew a guy who knew a few guys that worked in various capacities for shows like this - lighting, catering and whatnot - and ended hanging out with Gene’s bass tech for the show. What was seriously cool about it was that he thought it would be cool to sort of give me the Grand Tour of backstage experiences because I was a huge KISS fan. I’d been backstage to concerts before, met a bunch of rock stars on their way up, but never at a KISS show. So, he did stuff like setting me up on the soundboard to watch the headliner, taking me on the KISS tour bus, and hooking me up with some really special stuff to take away from the experience. You can’t buy that kind of insider experience. Yes, he offered to introduce me to Gene and the boys (would have been Paul, Bruce, and Eric Carr on his final tour) but I opted to have him get my HITS album cover autographed and passed on the face-to-face because I had met a number of big stars before and knew it was a crap shoot whether they were going to be cool or shit on you. This was before Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels, before KISS were really so engaged with fans, and I had no desire whatsoever to risk my childhood hero worship for a five-minute chat in a cinderblock dressing room down the echoing halls of an old coliseum in Phoenix, Arizona. Do I regret my decision now? I don’t think so. I got to say a quick, “Hi,” to Bruce and Paul as they wandered around backstage during the performances of Slaughter and Winger, watched Kip Winger warming up while Slaughter was on, got mildly but loudly verbally accosted by Mark Slaughter when I wandered into an open door to what I assumed was catering, but quickly discovered was Mark’s dressing room… I don’t know. I came away with incredible memories, anyway, a copy of the tour itinerary (that show was the last in that itinerary and a new one would be issued the next day), some guitar picks, an autographed LP, a few minutes holding the famous Axe bass and chillin’ on the bus. If I have any real regret, it’s that I missed the opportunity to tell Eric Carr how much I felt his contribution to KISS meant to the music and the band because he passed away not long after that. In many ways, I miss that time in my life. Selling “Experiences” by any artist (KISS isn’t the only one by any means) feels like exploiting fans - but to be fair, it feels like cheating on the part of the buyers, too. It cheapens the experience. And instead of being impromptu, ad lib, sort of people just encountering each other on equal ground, it pushes that Rock Star - Fan separation that exists everywhere else. Even if I had thousands of dollars lying around doing nothing, I wouldn’t in a million years use them to buy time with any of my idols (many of whom I’ve met, anyway). It would be too much like paying someone to hang out with me. And how shitty would that be?
@@codacreator6162 Spot on. I met Ace and Eric, in make up (and gene and paul, Creatures signing) Then the 'Lick it up' line up and the 'Animalize'(Bruce) line up. Didn't cost me a penny. (UK, 82-84) and got lots of stuff signed. Not seen them since 99, original four. I'll take that memory to the grave. I would never tarnish those memories with the current 'Kiss'.
But here is the thing: its all economics. There is no such thing as making big money from selling music any more. Album sales are more or less non-existent compared to the 70s and 80s. Touring is the only way these bands make money, so they monetize that experience as much as possible. The only thing unique they can offer that can’t be duplicated or copied is their actual person. We live in a Capitalist society, and I have no issue with Gene and Paul getting paid. This access is cool if you can afford it. And for those that say “they are rich and don’t need the money”, that is true; However, they aren’t a charity and should not be in the business of losing money just because some fans may get butt hurt. They also employ a lot of people who depend on those paychecks. The beauty of freedom: go or don’t. Don’t like the product? Don’t buy it. Nobody is putting a gun to your head to see a Kiss show. These guys are pushing 70. I don’t expect them to be like they were when they were 25. But if you think its fun, then its worth it. But can we just lose the evil Gene/Paul rap about making money? Good for them. Who cares?
I’m impressed they can play tuned down a whole step. I’d be reaching for what the chord “should” sound like instead of where it is. KISS for me ended with Dynasty but it’s cool to see them still at it.

And not for nothing, I would imagine that Eric and Tommy will not mind!!!! And again, I don't think Gene, nor Paul will blow a gasket at that song request!!! I mean look around the venue, it is business as usual, but with a very relaxed atmosphere too, as everyone there is "firing on all cylinders!!" @Joe Manhas That's a horrible idea. Replacing Paul or Gene will be hugely noticeable, and drive away the casuals, who are the only people going to this tour. If Kiss loses anymore founding members, it'll just be a cover band.
@@IdontKnow-jt2oz You're right on everything. It won't be for us. It'll be a cash cow for younger generations who didn't get to experience the real thing. But, it's coming. Bet on it.
The problem with relying on upper head voice, when it’s gone, you have no foundation to fall back upon. Paul started signing with his chest and not his diaphragm years ago, even going up from Eflat to standard, in the 80’s/90’s. He’s like almost 70 now? You have to keep that foundation, if you want to maintain your voice. Look at Plant. He’s keeps his foundation, and while his high stuff and head voice is not strong, he can do it on demand. I hope this tour really ends kiss for Paul. He can focus on healing his voice, and maybe coming back like Stave Perry has, with a different take on singing.
Paul has been shot since the mid 90' s really. Ace saying he & Peter cld be in there helping out on background vocals, etc. Anyone who saw them in the day knows the difference. Saw them in 79' & 85"
@@The_Original_Alex_Channel maybe. It gets worse. More u use it. How much they rest their voice. If they have done 5 shows in a row it is understandable.

Cool !!! I was there for that show ..can u imagine if kiss played the concert in that clothing??? Instead of the costumes ...that would feel differently I bet..
Paul's voice isn't as bad here as it is halfway through a performance after he spends 30 minutes screaming at the audience and blowing it out. I know his "thing" has always been "rock-and-roll preacher", but I honestly think he'd be much longer lasting onstage if he cut out half the jibber-jabber between songs.
"He's lip synching but he sounds terrible!" One, don't you think that if he was lip synching he would have used a track that didn't have as many mistakes and didn't show his age as much? And two, I mean come on, he sounds the same during the show as he does here. He doesn't sound bad at all with all things considered, some people complain just to complain.
Ppl don’t realize how many years show after show and how many times songs are sang …over and over the voice has to give or weaken eventually..as fans we are spoiled and selfish expecting them to sound like the original record and when we first started hearing them….
They don't have a vocal track for Hotter Than Hell because it's not in the set. Vocals here are pure torture, in the show he's lip syncing more than half the time. It's at the point where they're not really even trying to fool adults, just kids, because that's a significant chunk of the audience.
@@jesusgonzales8621 in truth, the voice doesn’t have to give or weaken, if the foundation is sound. Paul has been singing in his head voice, and not his diaphragm for decades, and has allowed his foundation to suffer as a result. Look at Halford. Same thing. His voice has suffered from years and years of head voice and mixed falsetto singing. Now look at King Diamond. Still killing it live, because his foundation is strong. His falsetto and head voice comes from his strong diaphragm. Also, look at Glenn Hughes. Strong foundational singer. Robert Plant, same thing. I hope kiss really ends, and Paul can relearn, unlearn, and come back like Steve Perry has.

I attended the farewell concert in The Gorge at George Washington in July of the year 2000. That was the last tour that you saw Ace Frehley and Peter Criss in the band. That really was Kiss saying farewell. What this video is depicting is a revenue-generating circus act that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley want to use and abuse for as long as they possibly can. I first saw Kiss August 12th 1977 in the Seattle Center Coliseum on their love gun tour, with Cheap Trick as the opening act. That was a rock and roll show, and then some. What this video is to me is nothing like what I saw, and shouldn't be happening in the first place. I still have my KISS farewell tour t-shirt from that show. I have VHS videos of every show on the American tour.

There is nothing wrong with people enjoying their shows for the last 20 years, but it's just not the same for me and many other fans from the original days.
Just saw the Atlanta show. 18th row center. We had the tickets for almost 2 years. The show was really pretty good but definitely different than when I saw them in the late 70s. I think this was closer to a Vegas type of show than what I expected but then the guys are very "seasoned" at this point. I'm figuring there will be at least two more "last" tours. Another thing, Gene is pretty disgusting how much he spits everywhere. Even before the blood thing. When he was up on the pedestal in the center during one song I swear he was making the first two rows.
That's 1/2 of Kiss. I saw the real Kiss, the original Kiss in 1978. Now they have two guys, who ARE good musicians, playing the originals characters, but it's just not the same.

I know! This is one of my biggest pet peeves with KISS.. Not enough song variety in the shows. Too many overplayed songs. Even after all these years, they never seemed to understand that people who show up to their shows are people who know ALL the KISS music. So they could have made their career that much better by playing music, either from a particular era or even from one or two albums etc. Wish they would have done that. It's true that they've played a lot of the deep cuts on the KISS Kruises, and I get how they would think that the fans who pay to go on the Kruises would get a special treat, but still.. they really could have capitalized on this. They could have even brought Ace and Peter back just for a part of the show.. and make that part, the last part of the show and put all deep cuts on it. The KISS Army would have gone NUTS on something like this.
Because you’re not paying these greedy fucks enough money for a regular ticket. Buy the “special” VIP tickets and you can hear some of their obscure songs for about 2500 bucks.

I got to say a quick, “Hi,” to Bruce and Paul as they wandered around backstage during the performances of Slaughter and Winger, watched Kip Winger warming up while Slaughter was on, got mildly but loudly verbally accosted by Mark Slaughter when I wandered into an open door to what I assumed was catering, but quickly discovered was Mark’s dressing room…
I don’t know.
@@codacreator6162 Your comment is like a complete book.
Gene & Paul probably charge extra for fan questions! I wouldn’t give them a thin f#@king dime!
Who cares?
I don’t think I’d see these guys for free these days. And I’m a huge fan of the ‘73-‘78 lineup.

Hi guys!!
Come on Clair Bro's crew!! When Gene or Paul ask you, in a sound check... "What do you want to hear!?!?" I know this is a bit "old," but someone in the male part of the crew, grow some "testicular hair," or from the ladies on the crew... "churn up some "Estrogenic testicles" and yell out very confidently and succinctly.... **FREEBIRD!!!**
The look on Gene's face will be "virtually priceless!!" I mean what the hell, I am pretty sure that Gene and Paul have plausibly "mellowed out" in the years, and with Wisdom, humility and hindsight they have done so way beyond their years!!! And not for nothing, I would imagine that Eric and Tommy will not mind!!!!
And again, I don't think Gene, nor Paul will blow a gasket at that song request!!! I mean look around the venue, it is business as usual, but with a very relaxed atmosphere too, as everyone there is "firing on all cylinders!!" And just maybe that would kick start the remaining Tour dates!!!!
Holy hell, why heroes get old!!!!

Paul's voice isn't as bad here as it is halfway through a performance after he spends 30 minutes screaming at the audience and blowing it out. One, don't you think that if he was lip synching he would have used a track that didn't have as many mistakes and didn't show his age as much?

You aren't really proving a point. I agree with you but the millenials with political shit in their pfps won't listen, they'll just complain on and on about a show they probably didn't even see.
