Correct but wrong. You’re right that this march was used and refers to the Russian Empire at first but the Red Army also used this march and created their own lyrics on the song.
Do not take it for rudeness, but the music itself was written in 1912 by subordinate Vasily Agapkin, who served in the Russian Imperial Army and wrote the text on his return from the Balkans after the Second Balkan War. The music itself was performed back in the Empire and also in the army of the Tsar. The text in this case was written in 1991. Also, the march itself was very popular precisely in 1914, when the war began and the people were at a high moral level. In the case of the Red Army and in the future the Red Army, there was a separate, Soviet version, where there is no call to defend the Orthodox Faith and rise to the entire Russian Land. Also, the music itself was simply used in the USSR, but this was not something new, because this was the case in the past and even in the White Army.
