Dub Pirate is Alborosie’s seventh adventure in dub music, a distinctive reggae offshoot that highlights the instrumental elements of a track using lots of dramatic echo and reverb effects. The project finds the Italian Jamaican showing his production skills by remixing twelve songs from Soul Pirate, his iconic 2006 album. Reworking classic tracks like “Kingston Town,” “Still Blazing,” “Rastafari Anthem,” and “Herbalist,” Alborosie evokes the spirit of the Jamaican sound system with his mostly instrumental dub mixes defined by seismic bass lines, ricocheting echo effects, and clattering drum patterns.
