I had one exactly the same in the early/mid 2000's!! That brought back a few memories. It may be simple technology but it worked. And when it didn't it was easy and cheap to fix. Great job.
Very nice rebuild. I'm somewhat troubled that you don't take brake calipers apart to clean them. A lot of gunk gets into the pivot points; it doesn't come out unless you do a full tear-down. I know brake calipers can be fiddly to rebuild (getting things in the right order on the pivot), but at least no special tools are required.
Found on eBay and restored last year pretty much the same spec "Raleigh" they sold in the U.S. For sentimental reasons - identical to the first bike I bought for myself around the age of 16. Yes, cheap bike but memories are priceless sometimes.
Really good work - done the right way. The only criticism ... there's very decent vintage Raleighs - but this one isn't one of them. Butt, it was saved anyway for a good reason . Fair enough
A really good technique to fully clean a freewheel is to put it on the hub, get some WD40, and an old rag (like a strip from a bedsheet) and run it between two cogs, spray some WD40 between the cogs, and floss the rag back & forth against the body (which will spin the freewheel more and more because it will lock in one direction and spin the other, and after doing all 6 spaces between on a 5-speed freewheel the teeth are completely clean down to the body ... In about 60 secs your feewheel will be totally clean on the outside ...

I have been thinking about doing this for a long time. My neighbour used to encourage me to do this or start working on electric bikes when it started booming. He works on daily city bikes and enjoyed watching him fixing them up. This was not enough to push me to work on bikes. Now seeing you working on old racebikes as passionate as you are this is getting very inspiring for me to start and learn this 😁 Got some much needed tools now and currently looking for old racebikes to resto. The satisfaction I am gunna get is what I was looking for to get me motivated. Thanks and keep these videos rolling love them ❤
I look at bikes like I do cars and motorcycles, they each have their own characteristics that makes them special, but working on your own bike makes it yours.
i celebrate this site. i once made my living restoring bikes like these at Sprocketts Recycled Bicycles, in Seattle. made my heart sing. talking about cables @15:30: Tri-Flow squirted into housings and rubbed along new cables, especially on brakes, gives a supple, powerful, modulation. Smells good too!
What a fabulous job , when you look at bikes from this era they were so maintainable no weird bottom brackets and even though you could argue it was probably a cheap-ish bike in it’s day the quality of the chrome was amazing. Brilliant I love these older bikes well done 👍
They were designed to be worked on many years later as we now are! Almost everything on them is universal as compared to now where everything is specific to each bike🧡

Fantastic Lee and Simon, looks awesome. Old bikes somehow survive the Apocalyse of a lack of love, but they can be transformed as you guys have done to perfection. I use a circular wire brush tool on my cordless impact driver to knock off the rust on some of the bolts that are a bit harder and costlier to replace. They are quickly transformed, the rust comes off quickly, but of course need to have a light lube on them as they can more easily rust again. Thanks
Your videos have made a big difference to how I think about bike restorations. I've always spent many hours and mega-bucks on stripping frames down to bare metal and having them powder-coated. The finish is, of course, amazing, but then I need to source decals etc. I finish up with a superb bike, but I'm not now convinced that the effort is worth it. Nope! In the future, I'm going to treat the frames as you do. Thorough cleaning and polishing to keep the patina, and protect it forevermore. Thank you.

They were re-fitted and taken back off for some of the end shots because once they were squared up they completely covered some details we tried to show 🧡

Was surprised to see the ends of the BB spindles getting greased, but having now read up on it I understand it - provided you're sensible with the torque. You seemed to gloss over how you cleaned the inside if 5ge rims up - they looked pitted to me. Going careless with the bearings was intriguing. But was was with that final saddle angle? 😬

How do you know all the correct torque on these classic bikes?
Most things are done by feel, the few bits we do torque are the ones that have a universal torque across almost all bikes 🧡

I think they use a gauge with holes in it. The number is the size of the hole and see if ball fits through

Same size. You just add one or two more.
