Heavy Departures at London Heathrow Airport, RW27R | 24-10-17

Finally, after nearly a year I have returned to doing departures again at London Heathrow, and it is certainly a pleasing change from the many visits to Myrtle Avenue this year. Intentionally this trip was to grab a few aircraft which will no longer be operating at LHR come the Winter schedule, which commences on the 29th October. Those particularly being the United 747-400, which will sadly be retired in November, and the Air France 787-9, which will no longer be used on the LHR-CDG route after the 28th.
I intended to visit on a rather cloudy day, otherwise the footage would of been completely backlit, the clouds fortunately gave for some lovely wing condensation, engine condensation and wingtip vortices, notably on the A330's and A340's. I thought the cloud surfing as well looked very cool indeed.

*There are also two non heavies featured, that being a Flybe Dash 8 and a Lufthansa A320 NEO. Both of which I thought were cool enough to keep in the video

Welp. Its 3 years later and here I am appreciating the United and British Airways 747-400. They are both retired now and hope Covid-19 is gone. Nice vid and best planespotting vid for LHR takeoffs. Fantastic! :D

United has made its retirement today. From KSFO-PHNL which is a sad day for them. It was a due to Hydraulics problems.they have been around for 50years.

I got some sad news 2 or 3 months ago those 747s got retired from the BE fleet that was including the retro livery ones sad isn't it

From my vantage point, i.e., chair, Boeing has radically redesigned their wings. The outer wing appears to be much thinner, smaller, and extremely pliant. The dash 8 looks very good with those wings.
787's aren't as quiet as i thought they were.

Jude Odogwu new engine technology isn't necessarily making engines quieter, they're removing the very annoying high pitched whine that an older engine makes more noticeably - listen to the difference and then you'll see.

Casey P, this is great work! I love the tummy-flutter I get when you zoom in just as the huge planes go by. I almost expect to be hit by jet blast, or get caught under the retracting wheels. Please keep doing it. It's especially breathtaking with the 747s but nice with all of them.

Sigh. Nobody does the closeups of a huge plane flying by like you do, Casey P. I especially love the 747 shots. The one of the British Airways going to JFK was my favorite. It was like sitting right near the wing as the plane flew by! I don't know how you do it.

The United 747 were scrapped in Tupelo Mississippi 45 miles from my town. Luckily I saw them before broken up.
