Don’t laugh I realise I’ve watched this twice over the years! Once for an R1200R Sport and today for my R1250GS that has been unused, but still loved, in my garage for the last 4 months.... Thanks for putting it up it’s a lifesaver 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much sir for posting this. My 2018 R1200GS Owner's Manual simple says "Press the battery cover 2 upward" without any photo or explanation regarding where to press it upward, and without an explanation stating there will be significant resistance when pressing it upward. I was afraid I'd break it...until I saw your video. Again, many thanks! Ride safe!
Thank you! Literally just tried to set off and..... wouldn’t start..nothing. Went straight to UA-cam and found your tutorial... great help! Much relief, thought it was yet another “BMW” expensive problem. Too damned “smart” by half these machines. Safe riding... Ian from Putnam Valley.
Thank you for the video. You use an old creditcard to get the old battery out, but you should just push / slide the old battery into the spring and then you can get the old battery out quit easy with your nail.
I always check out your video when I replace the battery for the 1250rt. My batteries maybe last 6-8 months. I’m using the Amazons batteries maybe that’s why. Nice Porsche👍
Thanks a lot, didn't know was that simple. I took my key to the BMW dealer and they asked for $20 to replace the battery, instead I watched your vidoe and DIY for just $5.
Great video! Try this: With the battery cover off, use your thumb and slide the battery towards the midsection, or towards the two larger tabs. And then the battery should flip out near the edge very near the two smaller tabs. You don’t wanna bend anything in there mistakenly.
Thank you for the video.. My key fob on my 2017 R 1200 started acting up and I thought I'd see if someone had a video out there and you had an informative video.. I am changing my battery tomorrow...
Thanks, I have the same key on my 2019 r1250 GSA. Got the message of the key battery at 50% no functionality lost. Think I’ll just start replacing the battery every year on my birthday or holiday.
Thanks for the info. Wasn't sure about how the battery cover was fastened/removed. didn't want to break anything. Not always a good idea to pry too hard on plastic parts.....especially a BMW part. L0L.
Great video but you should not touch the surfaces of the battery as this can cause the battery to discharge quicker that it normally would reducing its life
Gracias por el video, en el manual no se indica la fuerza que hay que aplicar para abrir esa cosa, una imagen vale por mil palabras, saludos desde Costa Rica.
Very good video,,, such a shame BMW don’t include this in the service as Mercedes do when I take my car in. My battery is lasting nearly 12months with little use, but maybe inferior quality.
I've run into this problem. My R1200RT wouldn't start due to low battery in fob. I took it out and tested battery. It showed nearly 100% charge. It was a very inexpensive 2032 from Amazon. I replaced it with an Eveready and bingo-- it works. Same thing with my Honda Pilot. The cheap batteries can work on some things but often not in keyless fobs. FYI
30 Sekonds would be enough to show, but you are talking and talking and talking over 1 Minute before to come to the main context. Probably you have to show everybody what do you have all for things in your garage.
I don't know why they had to make it that hard to open. Mine requires so much force it's ridiculous and it feels like I could easily break it. Poor design.
you talk too much
@aizio1 Sorry, I'll be deleting my channel soon. Thanks for letting me know. I wouldn't know otherwise.
Thank you!! You gave me the courage to pry that cover off which is all I needed. Very helpful.

same here- every time I get stuck with opening the cover, I have to watch this.. ha!

Thanks man. Very simple but much better than the instructions in the manual.
Thank you my grandfather was having this problem and you were a big help 🤷🏻♀️
Awesome mate, thanks.
And others have stated you have given me the courage to pry the cover open to fix my key!

Thanks for posting Ken . I kept trying to slide that section of the key fob out so now you've made it a lot easier .
So much happy to see people taking the time to make a video of simple things but so much annoying when you don't know how to do.it. thank a lot....
Glad I could help!
Thank you for the video. You use an old creditcard to get the old battery out, but you should just push / slide the old battery into the spring and then you can get the old battery out quit easy with your nail.
Yes, this is how I did it. Safer for the device.
I always check out your video when I replace the battery for the 1250rt. My batteries maybe last 6-8 months. I’m using the Amazons batteries maybe that’s why. Nice Porsche👍
Thank, you!! Keyless systems are obviously battery dependent and you made this keyless system less "terrifying."
Thanks a lot, didn't know was that simple. I took my key to the BMW dealer and they asked for $20 to replace the battery, instead I watched your vidoe and DIY for just $5.
You should never return to that shop again

So its not necessary to re-code the key at the bmw dealer, only replace the battery?
Thanks for very good video!!!
No need
Thanks for your help it was great to do it my self. its little things like this makes life better for people like me.
Thanks for this - very helpful (especially the part on how to open the key - it felt as though it would break!)
And two years later, it was useful again!
Thanks, I have the same key on my 2019 r1250 GSA. Got the message of the key battery at 50% no functionality lost. Think I’ll just start replacing the battery every year on my birthday or holiday.
Thanks for sharing.
Mainly just wanted to see how the key fob gets opened. Now i know. Battery swapped. All good.
Thanks !
Glad it helped
How you hold the camera in your teeth whilst changing the battery is quite remarkable!
You think I'm holding the camera in my teeth? haha, that's hilarious!
Simple and quick video.
Thank you 😊🙏🏽
Thanks dude, I thought it would slide out, pop off.
Thanks, simple but very helpful.
Thanks for the info. Wasn't sure about how the battery cover was fastened/removed. didn't want to break anything. Not always a good idea to pry too hard on plastic parts.....especially a BMW part. L0L.
perfect, exactly what I was looking for
Thank you for the video. Very informative.

Sooooo easy because of you :) Thank you mate !

Hey Guys i replace my Battery but i still have the warning (KEY ?) Help me please
Me too. Measured new battery voltage at 3.29 volts, old battery was measuring 3.0 volts, my bike is also a 1250.

A DRZ a Porsche & BMW... and you get to ride to work. You won.
Nice. Thanks.

Thanks for the unhelpful input.
Every country has Aholes I guess.
very good!
So funny, I just searched for this video 2 years ago and now again cause my battery just died, so I guess they last about 2 yrs.
Besser ist es, den Accu nicht mit den Fingern zu berühren.
I don't know why they had to make it that hard to open. Mine requires so much force it's ridiculous and it feels like I could easily break it. Poor design.
18 month? My GS1250 goes through one every 8 month!
It seems like it's totally random. Some people report years before needing a replacement battery
Thx 🤙🙋🏻♂️
Thank you
Thanks. Very helpful.
You're welcome!
