I feel like it'd be good for kids to hear this somehow. Especially the ones who don't know what they want to do or be, but are expected to have a very solid idea of the future and what they want to do and even have a plan to get there.

Indeed, for if I had been so fixated on pouring a hot cup of Clotted Cornish Cream Tea "with" Terry Wogan, I may never have met Leighton at the Berkeley Hotel that one fateful night when he happened to have just returned from Harrods with a brand new "Rain-Hat" in tow, leading to what has now become a DeChienne tradition: "midnight meetings for Cornish Cream Tea with a Rain-Hat."

I wanted to play Mrs Dolly Levi in Hello! Dolly when I was a child. I did it last year in a critically panned community theatre production and I couldn't have been happier. but no one else was. Rachel Parris is right, sometimes your childhood dreams are stupid. And sometimes you achieve them against all odds anyway and everyone really wishes you hadn't.

I achieved a few of my childhood dreams. Not the ones where I wanted to be a figure skater or drive a bulldozer. Those were nothing compared to wanting to be an archaeologist. Which I am, technically. Haven't excavated in years, but I have a masters degree in my chosen branch of the field. The biggest part of my childhood dream was to excavate at the site that inspired me, at age 5, to want to be an archaeologist when I grew up. 24 years later, I did!

When I grew up I wanted to be a spy. And then, for a while, a stunt woman. Then I realized Hollywood brainwashed me, and that I can be a part of those super cool action worlds without threat to my life and safety and years of rigorous training. Or skills. So I decided to instead try to brainwash other impressionable kids by becoming a filmmaker. Still studying, but just you wait.

I have one relative who, at aged 2 years, wanted to be the muffin man - she's now a dietitian. I have another relative who, at aged 4 years, drew many planes, and wanted to be 'a pikelet' when he grew up- he's soon to be captain of a major airline. So, some dreams do come true. :)
Pikelet definition: a small thick round pancake; thin crumpet; or pilot, depending upon your perspective.

I had a dream of becoming a game designer when I was young, and at the time it was all based on joing the video game industry. Now with the wisdom that the videogame industry chews up talent and spits it out without compensation, benefits nor any awareness for humanity in the sake of solid 6/10 unremarkable "Experiences" built for forgetfulness, I accept that I've reached my dream in the form of organising games for my nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters and I am far better for it.
