It's a really nice lathe but time will tell if it's good enough or the motor is even strong enough to do the same type of work u do here. Nice work. If I may enquire as to after 08:40 (beginning to cut to separate the base), how far in can one go before using a hand saw; is there a rule of thumb so to speak, 3/4s or somesuch?
I'm also curious what the effect would be like if the wasn't as thick. Keep it flush on the exterior but reduce the thickness to the interior. Prob more of a physics enquiry with regard to lumens, vacuum density and such. I'm hoping to get into turning myself, just trying to pick-up any and insights I can - Trial & error no doubt will illuminate.
That is an awesome piece dude. I notice your tool rest is not the original. I just got the same lathe out of Lidl and I find the tool rest is too low to use the skew! Is this why you made your own tool rest?
First thing I was thinking of too. I broke my tool rest very first day when I bought exactly this lathe. So new home made is now just fine. Only difference for me that I reused original rod (steel tube?). And BTW it's great to see that even with this small cheap lathe is possible to do great stuff 👍 Update: I just saw another video and it could be also with reused part of original tool rest 🤷

Gracias por tu comentario :) Yo la resina que recomiendo es la de resinpro, (enlace en la descripción y código descuento) es la resina que utilizo en todos mis proyectos y siempre me ha dado buenos resultados. Respecto al tamaño para empezar, yo diría que algo que te sea cómodo de trabajar, ni muy grande ni muy pequeño. Quizás empezaría por algo un poco más pequeño que esta lámpara por ejemplo, aunque si te sientes con seguridad también puedes atreverte! Saludos!

Yo coloqué la bombilla de tal forma que quedara dentro del tronco, justo antes que se llegue a ver por el tubo de plástico. Lo hice de esa forma para que no brille demasiado ya que es una lámpara de ambiente. No obstante se puede colocar a tu gusto. Saludos!

My opinion is that this lathe is perfect to see if you like this hobby, for its low price. Obviously this is not a quality tool, but to do small things and learn, it seems like a good option.

Muchas gracias. El torno para hacer cosas muy pequeñas, o para descubrir si te gusta tornear madera, puede valer. Pero realmente no lo podría calificar ni como un torno de madera de verdad, es mas parecido a un taladro que hace girar una madera y puedes darle forma. Por el precio que tiene si que vale la pena. Mi consejo es que es mejor gastar un poco más e ir a por uno básico de 2a mano. No obstante si no quieres gastar más siempre será mejor esto que nada 😄. Espero haberte ayudado.

Grant Fahlman Even though I have a Shop Smith, which can be turned into a lathe, I have never turned anything on it. It came with 5 or 6 of the tools used to turn wood with. We do have a pretty big selection of both hard and soft woods. But I don’t have any idea of what would be good for turning. What keeps popping into my mind is cypress. I know it is used for furniture, cabinets, and wall covering.
I did not use any method to avoid bubbles, and the result was good, although some small bubbles did appear. I think a good system to avoid bubbles would be to use a pressure pot. Thank you very much!!
