  • This video will help you close your INGROUND swimming pool so the lines do not freeze.
The steps include lowering the water level, blowing out the supply and return lines, and capping them. You also need to get the water out of your heater, and pumps.
You will need a blower, although I’ve seen it done with a large compressor. A blower will give you a larger volume of air which helps clear the lines.

I have a side drain on the pool that when opened drains about 18" of water from the pool, which is what you see here. The level is well below the tile; it needs to be so the tile doesnt freeze with water behind it and pop off. I leave the drain plug opened from now (october) until after the last hard freeze in my area, usually mid march or early april. At that time i remove the cover from that area, reinstall the plug, and put the cover back. As we get Spring rain, the pool slowly refills and by May is back to full so i dont need to add water when i open the pool for the next season
