  • Fuji X-Pro1 10 Year Retrospective - Is it Still any good? Are aging cameras still worth the money? In this case I think the Fuji X-Pro1 does have a place. I't only 16 MP but has a wonderful film like quality to the files. I had a great time using it except that the EVF is slow and not very good. My eyesight and the EVF did not get along. I had a little trouble manual focusing because of it. Overall it was a pretty good experience and if you don't mind the lower technology it's a great camera. I found the menu of the Fuji X-Pro 1 to be easy to use and for that matter the whole camera was easy to use. IN this Fuji X-Pro 1 10 year retrospective I tried to give you an idea of what the camera was like to use.

    The X-Pro 1 holds up great considering we are now in the third generation of the camera! I have and love the X-Pro 2, had a X-Pro 3 and could never get used to the fold down LCD panel!
    Nothing like a rangefinder style body to slow you down!!!!

    Hi Kirk, just got my x-pro1 because of the OVF.
    Affter giving it a try with some vintage lenses I’m just wondering how you work with the frameline? I found it off when using a manual 50mm

      The closer you get the worse it gets. It should be fine with the 50 though since its a 75mm in 35mm terms

    Enjoyed this.
    Question: does the X-Pro1 not have viewfinder dioptor correction, or does your specific adjustment exceed the range? I assume that you can use the newer models without a problem, just curious why the EVF was not usable.
    I came up on Leica M cameras, but after trying, I can't use my X-Pro2 with the OVF because I am now spoiled by the WYSIWYG display of the EVF, and knowing when to and how much exposure compensation to use.
    That front facing portrait of your dog is terrific. I love the 50mm f/2 and shots like the dog are why I never got the 56mm f/1.2.

    • @eagleeyephoto8715
      @eagleeyephoto8715 2 роки тому

      X-pro 1 does not have correction like x-pro 2 or pro 3.You can still get Voigtlander Bessa diopter (fit as original one) or Nikon F diopter.I use Voigtlander.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  2 роки тому +1

      Eagleeye is correct, there is no diopter adjustment therefore the EVF was not really useful for me. The newer models are fine.

  • @davidbrighten2572
    @davidbrighten2572 2 роки тому +1

    Hi Kirk, did you post process the Monochrome R photos? I really like the contrast. I also don’t have a diopter for my Xpro1 and have to use the OVF only. My eyes are so bad that I can’t use the LCD on my cameras. I keep it turned off except for major adjustments on the menu. Otherwise I only use the EVF or OVF. Another reason why I love my Xpro3. The screen is exactly the way I want it. If I could afford it I would love to get a Leica M10-D without any screens.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  2 роки тому

      Hi David, I should have clarified things better. The only image that is Monochrome +R is the first one of the bench. I used my standard preset on it which basically cleans up the toning a bit. The contrast added was minor contrast for detail. The others taken with the Summaron were conversions from Raw. Sorry about that.

    Kirk, I really think you got the best out of this gorgeous camera. Those colors came out amazingly pretty. Love seeing the Summaron 3.5 here too. I sometimes shoot my X-Pro 1 with my Summaron 35mm 2.8 too.

  • @derrenleepoole

    I own two of these bodies, and they get used daily. It's a very capable camera and holds up very well. How many megapixels do you really need anyway? 16 is more than enough. I use one with the native X mount lenses using mainly the OVF. The second body has cracked OVF glass from a fall, so I use that body with manual lenses and the EVF. The diopter can be changed on these bodies, there's some 19mm diopters for Nikon bodies that fit these cameras. You just need to know your correction strength. Changing them makes a massive difference in user experience. Pairing one of the bodies with a m-mount Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4 is a magical combination. Use a focal plane adjusting adapter, and you have a very versatile system with m-mount lenses. I often use mine at gigs and get great results. Got Barbara Dickinson, Paul Weller and Florence and The Machine coming up next month and I plan on using these setups in favour of the Sony A7 system I have. I just prefer the results and I'm confident the system can deliver. You just have to know the strengths and weaknesses and use them to your advantage.

      Great ideas on using the X-Pro 1 Derren! I will pass them along to the owner of this camera who is a professional photographer shooting Canon. But he has Leica gear as well and uses it on this camera all the time.

    Great review with some lovely shots. I had both the XPro1 and 2, now my only Fuji is my X100V. I loved the XPro1 as it was so simple, just let down by a average viewfinder and lenses that buzzed and hunted for focus, so I traded them in for a Leica SL Type 601 which is a joy to use with manual lenses thanks to its incredible view finder. However, now Voigtlander are making lenses that fit Fuji, the XPro1 is the poor man’s M240 I think.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography

      Hi Marcus, Actually more the XPro2 is the poor mans M240. I love my M-P 240 and it's FF sensor. A very different look to the images.

      You will notice something surprising 😄 the 16Mp Sensor is the sharpest of them all…
      Only thing I do not like is that in Lightroom you have the known worm issue and that Capture One does not support the film simulations of the first X-mount Fujis… that makes editing Raw files a bit of a less smooth workflow compared to the newer models
      I have Pro3 and Pro1 btw…

      Hi Grumpy, don't pay any attention to the worm thing. Yes it's there "buried in the darkest shadows" I have to really look for them. Printing from these files I have never seen it. Is it there? Yes, but I don't see it. I think you will see the difference in the sensors.

  • @peoplez129
    @peoplez129 2 роки тому +2

    I think the real problem is noise performance. The first gen Xtrans sensor really falls apart at higher than base ISO or if an exposure isn't perfect, or even if an exposure is perfect, because dark areas will always have noise even in daylight. It's not even just the amount of noise, but the fact that the image becomes actively blurrier, rather than staying sharp. It's very much like when people would take nighttime photo's with early smartphone camera's, which is no surprise, because the Xpro1 came out in 2012. And given that the camera market is way over priced right now due to inflation, an Xpro1 that sold for like $250 before, is now going for like $500, which is insane. I saw Xpro2's for $500 before, and they're now not selling for less than $900. Even the Xpro3 went up in price by a lot. Used to be able to get a brand new one just a year ago for around $1400. Now it's around $2000. Even many popular high end full frame camera's are now cheaper by a lot, including the Sony A7III, which is in every regard a far superior camera.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography
      @KirkWilliamsonphotography  2 роки тому +1

      Yes you are right but the camera is still nice. It does not have all the bells and whistles but does a fine job in normal light. Yup the prices keep going up which is bothersome. I want an X-Pro 2 but $900 is too much.

    • @Nerdzombiedisco
      @Nerdzombiedisco 6 місяців тому

      LOL. Noise isn't an issue for me. I've shot a slow 5.6 adapted manual lens at night with no issues. But I'm rooted in film and Leica M gear, so technique and experience can combat limitations in retired digital cameras.
