Austin, your fanbase is one of the most amazing fanbases I’ve seen on UA-cam

  • @slobiden.2593

Austin, if you ever have meetings with “Hollywood”, always treat them like they’re the ones who need you MORE than you need them. And until they have a contract in front you with an upfront cash sum, always treat them like you’re gonna drop them like a stone. Because as you know they can and will do it to you.
You deserve a career in the industry. It can take a LONG time to make it, but I have faith. The creator of Black Mirror was making similar stuff to you back in the early 2000’s (screenwipe was the show). He even did several skits on how much bullshit the television industry is when it comes to making a name for yourself. now he’s internationally recognised.
(“Charlie Brooker, a career in telly” 13 years old when uploaded - it was at least broadcasted years before that and it was on a B list channel at the time and watched by almost no one)

did you watch his last video? about the movie he was supposed to make?

    • @slobiden.2593
      @slobiden.2593 4 роки тому +13

Lizz yes. Hence why I made this comment now. Only by the time I saw that video it was buried in comments.
I haven’t seen content like Austin’s since Charlie Brooker used to make similar styled content. I miss it tbh, however he’s since made it big and is now no longer a niche person. His series went from arthouse Channel 4 tv series starring B list UK actors at the time (I think the guy in the second episode is the protagonist from get out) to a worldwide phenomenon starring John Hamm in one episode)
My point was he seemed almost defeated in that video like his chances of making it outside of UA-cam are ruined. They aren’t. His break will come one day, he just needs to release every shot at making it in Hollywood is luck based and it’s also about the amount of shots you take. Also being “hot” (having a lot of positive attention around you) is a big bonus.
He will make his black mirror one day. He just needs to not Abandon his UA-cam career and show Hollywood that his current audience are currently good enough (not saying he thinks we aren’t just that Hollywood need to think he’s got it good already and that he’s only taking their offer as it’s slightly better) it’s like a game of poker. You don’t reveal your hand, you bluff.

Nick Granese I don’t blame him for feeling bitter. Hollywood is like dating both a man and a woman: If they like you, they’re like a guy with a boner. They’re messaging you, constantly. Sending you gifts, sending all sorts of positive vibes your way. Then they all of a sudden without any reason. Like a woman, just flick that emotional switch and you’re dead to them. Was it anything you personally did? No. Just someone they think has marginally more appeal came onto the scene, or someone that gave the person in charge a blowjob.
There’s a reason why Jennifer Lawrence ain’t been acting since Mr Weinstein isn’t around to give favours too 😂

Thank you so much for these videos Austin. I first saw was Welcome to Spaceship Day which was hilarious. But it’s hearing your experience as a filmmaker I find really inspiring. I personally struggle with cinematography and trying to get the shots I want. I sometimes overthink things and don’t know how I can make a shot look as good as I want it too. Yesterday, I talked to one of my professors about what I consider to be my shortcomings in cinematography and she said, like you do, to just put myself out there and film something no matter if it’s good or bad. Hearing that along with you really makes me determined. Thanks again for making these videos about your experiences. Have a great day!

One of the hardest things when you begin to get a little bit of traffic is when you first start getting consistent dislikes, downvotes, whatever. It easily hits extremely hard, especially when it happens to every video.
Making videos is still fun and worth it but that seemingly insignificant detail hits like a train and can derail you like one if you aren't careful.
I personally have no idea what I did to offend the person who is currently on a vendetta to dislike everything I put out, but I keep going anyway. I also have no idea what it's like for you dear reader/commenter but you can keep going as well.

Last summer, I actually (quite coincidentally, actually, haven’t seen the encouragement video back then) started writing a book. This was not my first time writing a ‘big project’, but it was the first time I went over 10 pages. I went to my grandma in Toronto and went full creative retreat mode. The book, very creatively named “Red Fallout” was about the escalation of the Cold War and eventually the collapse of most of the superpowers. With pure magic (I honestly have no idea how I did what I did), I pressed through. 20 pages... 30... 40... 50 - I was still pushing it! 60... then the summer ended. I went back to the my high, and got less and less time to work on my dream. By Autumn things were looking grim. I had barely advanced forward, and began to realize how absurd my scenarios really were. By December, the project was shelved indefinitely. But that is not to say that I have not learned anything from this endeavour. I have seen my failures - my triumphs. It has become part of my experience. I now look at everything I write as a new “expedition”. I hope to reach further. Maybe not the end - but as close to it as I ever been. Hell, maybe one day, in front of my local mall’s bookstore - there it will be - like a Phoenix rising from the ashes. “Red Fallout”. But until that day comes, I will continue to endeavour. And now looking back - I can not wait for summer.

Austin, thank you so much for making videos like these. I decided that this year I'm going to make an entire feature film, completely on my own, in part thanks to inspiration from you. I've always wanted to make something meaningful, but I don't have the opportunity to get people/money/resources together to make a "real" movie so for a long time I just put it off. Hoping that eventually I could find an "in" somewhere, that someone would give me the opportunity I couldn't make for myself.
Then in December I decided I had had enough of waiting. I'm just going to do it myself. I have no budget, no crew, no sets, nothing but what I can come up with on my own - so I decided to challenge myself to find some way I could make an entire "real" movie, without having to rely on other resources. I'm wildly intimidated, but also hopeful and excited. Watching videos like this one gave me the courage to really try, not let my circumstances hold me back, and make something I can be proud of and hopefully people will enjoy watching.
Anyway, thanks for inspiring me to really go for it. If you want, you can watch the concept teaser on my channel, and let me know what you think. I appreciate you, Austin, and the way you always encourage me to really try.

I’m on a road trip with my brother right now. Tomorrow I’m dropping him off at his friend’s and going to see my friend. Because of the Coronavirus outbreak (which really took off after all our travel plans were in motion), there won’t be much to do.
After this video, I know what to do. I’m gonna make a movie. Thanks guys!

As a person who works at a large warehouse I'm terrified looking at the giant stack of pallets behind them. At my workplace the highest stack you may build is about 1.80m and even they tend to crash down causing some accidents...

I made a feature film as well after watching Austin's videos. The trailer is on my page. We shot it on nothing.
