They planted it that way because they used a 30 inch spacing planter but they wanted a 15 row pattern without buying a separate planter set for 15 inch rows . The most logical thing to do was to plant it straight then come back across At a slight angle . I've seen guys plant wheat that way with a planter instead of a drill . Kinze and johndeere offer seed plates for wheat and rye to use on a regular planter . From what I hear it actually works out well especially on notill. Great video keep up the good work!
We double crop beans after wheat here in southern Michigan it works well . Our season is just long enough but some years our double crop beans get snowed on as we normally can't harvest them till after Thanksgiving. Take care !
@@anthonybanda8192 thanks Anthony. I hope this year is good for you. Some of the canadians I watch on UA-cam are worried that the amount of snow they have might effect their planting dates. Take care.
@@leeforeman3656thanks ! we normally don't have issues with planting dates . We normally start mid to late April and plant till June and we always get at least one cold spell with snow but it all works out . We cover 8000 acres with some custom farming as well. We tend to plant our beans super early and we get a yield boost. It's normal for us to get 75 to 90 bushel beans and 180 to 250 bushel corn . Last year we had a 80 bushel average across 4000 acres on beans and 230 bushel corn average on 3500 acres . Our double crop beans did 25 bushels which I'd ok we figure every bushel over 10 Is a bonus. Take care!
I've seen them burn off the rice straw down in that part of the country but I've not been there when they burnt off the wheat straw. Nice vid and those tracks do look good on that 9770.
Great awesome video mike, that’s planter different, I would say it would help In the wind ,I would like to know what he averaged in bushels per acre in that field
Imagine there are many varieties of beans to grow? They seem taller and larger plants down here in the south? I remember deer hunting in SC when I was a teenager where they could be hunted with dogs. Saw some of those jokers run into a soybean field by the dogs and they would actually get on their knees and cross a field staying out of sight in the beans. Smart critters no doubt but kinda tells the height of the beans.
Great video Mike, just subscribed, I've planted a little like that, but not a whole field, probably will help with weed control, bur I would hate to get done planting straight, then turn around and plant it all over again! 😆
What row spacing was used on these soy beans ? I’m wondering is the diamond pattern is a way of making a wider spaced planter work. As you said, there is a story there that would be interesting to know. For now, the diamonds are cool to look at !
@@markam306 not a problem. I farm 8000 acres with my family plus I do mechanic work as well . We try different methods to try to push yields. I like to help explain things if I can for the non farmers . It's important to bridge the gap between producer and consumer . Take care !

Thanks Mike 👍. Always watch and enjoy all your videos. Spring is on its way!!
The combine looks good on the tracks😉👍
Cool video👍
I've heard of double cropping, but never seen it. Makes a lot of sense, and will help keep expensive machinery costs down. 👍

That guy is really moving and the beans look like there yielding good too
Yeah that 9770 is running good!
Great show Mike
That planting pattern would seem to be helpful against blow down.
That was exactly what I was thinking.
@@404nitro Probably increases yield, eh?
Another great video. Love your variety and content.
I like the plant rows...does it up yields
The 9770 looks cool on tracks. I have seen those kind of Tracks on NH 4x4 articulated tractors
Another great video Mike .
Great vídeo Mike.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I wanna say the tracks are made by the Ati company, I’m talking about the tracks on the combine

Great video
Looks like Soucy tracks on that combine.
Do the farmers share what yield they are getting? It would be interesting to see what it was for the cross hatched field.
We planted that way this year. 10 bu yield bump over 30 inch Rows. And canopied shut 5ish Days sooner.
Did you cut your population in half?
@@patricktwenter5741 yes we did except for the head land pass
Nice machines those people got there
My dad’s family lives in the boot heel so we go down there alot

Have you done any videos of rice planting and harvesting?
I did a short rice harvest video like ten years ago. I have places to go shoot another rice harvest video but the schedule just hasn’t worked out yet
Mike,do you think more farmers mt pick up on that diamond pattern for soybeans?
The guy on Pod Father's planted his soybeans in the diamond pattern.
I wonder how they got the diamond pattern in the beans

That's exactly what they did . They used a 30 inch planter to do 15 inch rows.

Those tracks look a little a different on the combine. Not the normal triangular shape.
Hi Mike!
Which drill does such sowing??
Beautiful!!

They ran a 30 planter, just doubled it back over again. I definitely agree, it’s something neat to look at
