I wasn’t aware of it either & now I’m digging it. I’m a fan of short machetes & I’ve loved old hickory since I was a boy. It was my mom’s “ chicken boning knife” 😂. Great review man, thanks.
Chopping tiny sticks like that you should be able to cut them with one chop. Either your machete is dull as can be or the edge geometry isn't very good. I'll stick with my Ontario.
Meh... I have the Ontario 18" (maybe the 12" Ontario is the better option)... IMO, 1095 is too brittle for a machete, and Ontario heat treat isn't the best. Lots of snapped Ontario machetes out there if you start getting too rough with them like regular batoning and such. I have Tramontinas that have been going for years of heavy abuse. They do require regular sharpening with regular use but that's not a deal breaker and they're tough as nails. Super easy to sharpen and touch up in the field with most anything around you. Also slightly thinner and lighter than the Ontario which doesn't tire you out. And Trams give you that classic machete "Ting, ting, tang" sound which is always fun.
@@benchase7537 Yeah, I would choose something like an ESEE Junglas over any Ontario machete.... but then I'd choose my 24" Tramontina over the Junglas! 🙃

I was going to write that. Tramontina machetes are cheap and sturdy.
Trams are where it's at. My personal favorite is the 24".... but the 12" is great too!

The ontario is way too thick IMO. If you need a heavy chopper just use a hatchet.
