    They’re bad. They’re brown. They’re BACK!
After acclaimed, sold-out performances at The Out Of Bounds Comedy Fest and San Francisco Sketchfest, Emmy-nominated sketch troupe The Latino Comedy Project (LCP) celebrates its 20th anniversary with “Gentrif*cked.” The LCP returns for ONE WEEKEND ONLY, Friday and Saturday, June 9-10 at 8 and 10:15 p.m. at Spider House Ballroom, 2906 Fruth Street.
Instigated by the dramatic changes to our city, the LCP’s “Gentrif*cked” examines the causes and consequences of gentrification as it affects Austin and communities across America.
The LCP asks: What happens when a community’s piñata shops are demolished and replaced with cat-friendly vegan coffeehouses? When neighborhood pulgas are transformed overnight into luxury condos? Or when Mexicans are replaced with obsessively dog-walking paddle board enthusiasts? Through their trademark mix of live sketches and original videos, the LCP provides all the hard answers and leaves no one unscathed in “Gentrif*cked.”
In addition to a pre-show retrospective of vintage LCP videos not seen in over a decade, the evening will also feature hilarious special guests: Austin’s only bilingual improv troupe Migas, and the stand-up comedy of “Funniest Person In Austin” finalist Vanessa Gonzalez.
Directed by Adrian Villegas (“Six Mexicans Named Gonzalez,” “Barrio Daze”), the "Gentrif*cked" cast of writer-performers also includes Omar Gallaga (“Statesman Shots,” KUT’s “Texas Standard”), Yamina Khouane (“F*ck This Week”), Mical Trejo (“Radio:30,” “Confessions of a Mexpatriate”), Danu Uribe (“Intergalactic Nemesis”) and Nick Walker (“Token White Guy.”)
The San Francisco Chronicle hailed the LCP as “hilarious” and “murderously funny.” The Austin Chronicle called them "Hysterical...Snappy writing, immaculate timing, and an animated cast." The Austin American-Statesman said of the Latino Comedy Project, "Bitingly original sketch comedy is alive and well and Latin." For its SF Sketchfest run this year, The Mercury News included “Gentrif*cked” in its can’t-miss list of festival highlights, writing, “How perfect is it that the Latino sketch troupe from Austin makes comedy hay out of the subject of gentrification, in an area reeling from this phenomenon?”
They’re bad. They’re brown. They're The Latino Comedy Project.

I own a piece of the ghetto. Many of the tenants care little about their neighborhood nor improving themselves. I've had section 8, and I can tell you that the majority of the people live without any or little concern towards improving, so much for their plight. The worst thing to happen to minorities is the "concerned" white liberal. Rather than lift them up, truly challenge them and consider them equals, they patronize them and make excuses for them. Until we hold ourselves and others accountable, this will not change.

The real problem is that 'under-developed urban areas' have extremely cheap reality values... This makes them extremely attractive investments for real-estate speculators that stand to make millions in just a few short years by gentrifying the neighborhoods... The only way to prevent gentrification is to keep your neighborhoods safe and prosperous enough that the real-estate values do not plummet and attract reality speculators... That depends, entirely, on the local community to resist going ghetto-tard. So if you truly value your communities, and do not want to be pushed out via gentrification, you ought to be protesting against the local thugs... they are the ultimate cause of gentrification.
