- In this video I attempt to work out the top 10 most iconic songs by ear in just 30 minutes. This list was put together by FreeYourMusic and they compiled a list of the top 50 most iconic songs based on science.
If you think there should have been some other songs in the top 10, then let me know and maybe il do those in a future video!

Next video play by ear to Indian songs challenge
I reckon I could have a good go, Indian music uses different scales and some microtonality though so it may be tough on a piano! 😊
Thank you for your advice
@@matticawoodand plz check out real music not the stereotypical shit musics
It amazes me how well you can play by ear. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! It’s all in the interest of edutainment 😂
@@matticawood I have never heard it put so elegantly. I know how hard you must have worked, long before you ever heard of YT.
I love your videos especially these ones when you play by ear never stop doing them never stop uploading videos you got me into piano three months ago thank you!
And btw gg you're very good playing these songs in a short period of time is so incredible you nailed it as always
maybe try a video play by ear with movie songs such as jurassic park the lord of the rings etc if you've never tried them before
give you more time tho to do the songs lol
Great performance! 👍🏻 👏🎵💙🎹 AL
I'd love to hear your take on Enter Sandman!
Loved this Matt!
Very nice! I found your channel quite lately, this is maybe 4th or 5th video I saw and I admit you are extremely good teacher/narrator. I also try to learn playing many songs by ear and it was fascinating for me to see that I have almost identical approach. But my skills and knowledge are different story... I spend an hour to learn verse/chorus and another 50 hours to combine everything with chords. :) Definitely will check this channel more often from now on. New subscriber.
Incredible!
Damm, i’ve just picked up playing the keyboard. And this is so inspiring to keep on learning. Keep up the cool video’s, really enjoy watching them. Now back too my keyboard.
I’m glad you get some inspiration from the videos! Keep going and you will get to where you want to be in no time! 😊
Im thinking Rap God for your next challenge... LOL! Great job Matt! ❤
I like to hear you work out Film scores. Cornfield Chase, Chevaliers De Sangreal, Time, One day all by Hans Zimmer. Flying my James Newton Howard, Duel of the fates John Williams, The Knight King , Light of the Seven by Ramin Djawadi. Riders of Rohan, Bridge of Khazad Dum Howard Shore. My Name is Lincoln by Steve Jablonsky and maybe the batman theme by Danny Elfman
Id like to hear your take on them with just a piano
Tori Amos did a piano cover of smells like teen spirit. You’d probably enjoy listening to her version now.
Il check it out, it will be very interesting to see someone else’s approach to it! 😊
Would love to see some omegleTV videos with you !
Please do another 1 year progress reaction
Would it be possible for you to make a tutorial for Billie Jean by Michael Jackson? Your rendition sounded amazing before it got cut off to the next song😅
Can you try to do any rap songs?
love your description of God Save the Queen 😂 your videos are fantastic and very watchable. But don't think it's possible to replicate this particular song on the piano.
Do the nuker 3 reaction
God save the Queen never sounded so jaunty
I obviously couldn’t summon my inner anarchist 😂
Why are you not a composer? :)
I do compose every so often for commissions and things like that 😊 but I also have hundreds of tracks on my computer that have never seen the light of day 😂
you should share them with us 😊😊
Maybe a song by a female musician would've been nice.
Your skill is amazing Matthew! I love watching you play! It didn't even look like your fingers are pressing down on the keys. I can't wait for the day my hands look like that when I'm playing 😂
Well that's out of his control. The top 10 doesn't have a female musician.
That’s an interesting observation! I wonder why the list didn’t have any in the top ten, there are plenty of artists and songs I can think of that could have made it in there 😊
Tell me how to play by ear, please.
I'm sure you're asking yourself now, "Why should I teach this loser how to play by ear?"
But hold on and listen. My life is challenging:
I have chronic pain, kind of struggle with depression and negative thoughts.
Whenever I play the piano (even though I'm not good at it), I feel free from my problems.
So, in some way, you could make my life more bearable.
Thank you so much
Brilliant!!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊
