Yes, you are right. But when we help others in the team, we expect them to help us when we need. If someone doesn’t return back the favor, we stop helping him/her and also tell the story to others how that person did not reciprocate. So we should be very careful before asking for help.
There r many benefits of sharing ur knowledge: 1. It improves ur clarity and the student may correct ur misconceptions. 2. If u r irreplaceable, u will not be promoted. 3. Not sharing and becoming indispensible with respect to a specific knowledge or work might corrupt u into laziness and platitude, which might not be sustainable. 4. Others share with you when u do. 5. It is ethically wrong to not share if u urself benefitted from others sharing. 6. It spoils the work cukture in ur organisation and generally in the society.

Some popular phrases highlight the work culture in these settings, such as: "Bane raho pagla, kaam karega agla" (Pretend to be clueless, and someone else will do the work) "Bane raho lull, tankha lo full" (Stay idle, but still take home a full salary) "Kaam mat karo, sirf kaam ki karo fikre, sahab se jaa ke baar-baar karo zikre" (Don’t work, just worry about work and repeatedly report to the boss).
